If Wes Anderson Was A Real Estate Videographer...

A creator breaks down how to shoot real estate video in Wes Anderson's style using just a Sony FX30, Sigma 10-18mm lens, gimbal, and drone. He grades for high saturation in teals and greens, adds anamorphic look in post, and uses AI voice-over to let viewers imagine living in the space.
Today I'm going to be breaking down one of the recent real estate videos that I made where it feels a lot like a movie. And so let's go ahead, let's watch the video, and then we'll come back and we'll talk about it.
Welcome to 31 Cherry Hills, a timeless gem in the Fairway Oaks neighborhood. As you enter, you are greeted by a spacious open floor plan perfect for entertaining and family gatherings. The inviting living room bathed natural light sets the stage for cherished moments. The modern kitchen features sleek appliances and ample storage, ideal for culinary creations and shared meals. Retreat to the serene primary bedroom, complete with an en-suite bath and dual sinks, offering a touch of luxury and comfort. Step outside to the lush backyard oasis, where a shaded patio invites relaxation and outdoor gatherings amidst vibrant greenery. With 3 bedrooms and 2 full baths, this home balances elegance with practicality, ready to adapt to your lifestyle. One Cherry Hills is not just a house, it's a canvas for your life story. A place where memories are made and dreams flourish.
So a couple things to note here. We only had one camera, one gimbal, and one drone, and that's all we use in order to get this effect. And the camera that I was using was a Sony FX30. Shooting in 60 frames per second with a Sigma 10-18mm f/2.8 aperture lens. This is the perfect setup for real estate if you're just getting into it or you're wanting to experiment with other lenses. This is the perfect one to get. And so that's all you'll need. You don't need any microphones, you don't need anything else. And then you need a way to edit the video. And so how I edited this video was in Premiere Pro. I used voiceover actors, which are actually AI, off of motionarray.com. Shout out Motion Array if you're watching this, let me know. I would love to work with you in the future. But they have a new feature. I think it's called Voices or something along those lines, and you can basically type in whatever it is that you want your voice actor to say. And you just type it in, hit go, it, it uploads an MP3 file ready for you to use and plug into your films. And so the first shot that I chose to use was an establishing shot. This was a drone shot, and if you look very closely, it kind of looks a little bit anamorphic style. I did not use anamorphic lenses. I did this all in post-production on Adobe Premiere Pro. There's a lot of YouTube videos explaining how to do that, so I'll link one in the description that I followed, and it makes it look like it was shot on a wide-screen anamorphic lens. So on this particular project, I was playing around and studying some of Wes Anderson's films. And now, this isn't a typical Wes Anderson film. You don't usually see real estate, and there's no people, but I wanted to try it out, and I like— I love the way how it like, love the way it turned out. And I love the way that it turned out with the lack of contrast and high saturation, especially in the greens and the light blues and teals. And so throughout this whole video, I do a mixture of drone shots, establishing shots, uh, just wide room shots and detail shots as well, to try and put the viewer in an experience where they can see their own stuff there, their own furniture, their own kids eating dinner at the, the dining table, in the dining room, all of the above. Because I'm trying to portray emotion, and I think that's exactly what this video does. Even though this house isn't a $2 million home, it was a good challenge for me to try this out on because it had a lot of character. It was a little bit older, so I had to try to bring it to life a little bit. So I didn't use any lighting or microphones or anything. This is straight up 4K 60 FPS shot in 10-bit using a Sony FX30. And so let me know in the comment section, have you tried this style of real estate video? This is one of the many things that we do. We do commercials, we do brand story videos, which we will be releasing some breakdowns of how we film Netflix-style interviews and brand stories, kind of like a mini documentary. But have you tried this? There's been a lot of talks about like the Sony FX2, um, with that coming out. I am a Sony guy myself, but I know a lot of you are not Sony people. And so what do you shoot on? Uh, I would love to hear more about your projects and if you've attempted anything like this before. Again, leave it in the comments below. Make sure to hit the subscribe button and we'll see you in the next one. Peace.
