Daron Pacheco and a founder discuss why employees won't care about the business as much as you do. You can hire people with strong values, but their "right-in-the-heart" won't always match your vision. Accepting this gap is essential for leadership.
Yeah, I hire good people that I know have good values and they're good people, and I'm like, do what you feel is right in your heart. But that's not a good quote to put in a handbook. Like, how do you run Body Works Physical Therapy? You know, we do right by people, we help people stay active, and we do what we feel is right in our hearts.
Yeah, but then like, what if right in their heart is like, you know, completely different than what your heart looks like?
Exactly. And so a little bit of a hard lesson to learn. You can't, uh just expect everybody to do the same things you do, feel the same way, put out the same product, if you will, or care about your business as much.
Exactly.
And that's okay. But it is a hard lesson to learn.
So I've had to remind myself whenever building, like, whenever hiring somebody or getting a contractor or an employee, like, we don't have a ton. We don't have 14. I have 2 right now. But even then, I have to constantly remind myself they're not going to ever care as much as I do about what I built because I put all the sweat equity into it.
