Why do so many skilled pros fail after graduation?

Vocational schools teach hairstylists and other service pros the technical skills but skip business basics like taxes, LLCs, and marketing. Without that knowledge, even talented graduates can't build a sustainable career or business.

So these people, they graduate, they get their license, but they can't get a job because they don't know how to, you know, they don't know all of the services that they technically can offer cuz they were only taught the basic things. Um, as well as, you know, they weren't taught any of the business side of stuff. So that's a big thing. I was never taught the business side. I, I didn't even know what business taxes were when I very first started. So going into my first year, that was a big awakening. Uh, So yeah, I had— I didn't know what an LLC was, anything like that. And so a lot of schools don't touch on that. They don't touch on anything that has to do with the business side, social media. Um, and so I feel like that's such a big thing because in order to have a business— so in order for someone to be a hairstylist, that's a business. They, they have to understand the business side and be able to operate as a business or else their business is gonna fail.
Yeah. So it's super important.
You have to have all those key factors.
If you don't know how to run the business, then you can— it doesn't matter what service you're in. Yeah, no, it won't work.
Exactly. You could be amazing. You could be the best, you know, service writer in Abilene. But if you don't know how to run a business, it's not going to work and it's not going to last very long.
