Why God Wants To Be IN Your Business

A faith-centered take on entrepreneurship: God wants to be involved in your business, not just your personal life. The host left corporate work for purpose-driven ventures and argues that prioritizing kingdom over profit, treating money as stewardship, and acting now rather than waiting for perfect conditions are biblical principles that transform how you build a brand.

Good morning, Brand Builders Podcast. Today's episode filled with the spirit. I just came back from a church conference not that long ago and it has got me absolutely fired up. So here we go. Today we're going to be talking about why God wants to be a part of your business. Brand Builders Podcast. I think this is crucial for every single business owner or person building a brand or an organization. And I'm going to break down a couple of different verses and we're going to go through that. First, I wanted to share a story of many of the people that I went to college with, many of the people who are older than me who worked in corporate America. And whenever I say corporate America, I mean like at a bank, um, being an accountant, that sort of thing, where you are literally sitting at a cubicle working all day from 9 to 5. And so This is what I wanted to avoid. And the reason is because the Lord was like, hey, you were designed to do something more, to do something— not to say that those jobs aren't more, but more creative, more flexibility for the lifestyle that I desired, to have my wife stay home, to have, um, potentially be able to homeschool our kids. And so these are the things that I'm thinking about whenever I talk about these stories. So a lot of people that I've heard in corporate America, they talk about how much they wish they were doing something else or how unfulfilled they are or how they wish they had the guts to go and risk something to build something on their own so that they could work for themselves. Now, this is the mindset going into this. I want to not only encourage but motivate you that God wants to be a part of your business and God wants you to take that leap of faith in whatever it is that you're doing. I wouldn't be here if I didn't take that leap of faith and the fruit that it has brought just within the last 5 years. And I can't wait to see what the Lord has for the next 20 years. It's tremendous. And so we're going to go through some scriptures. Um, I think I have about 5 scriptures for you that are going to absolutely blow your mind. They did me. I've been reading a book called The Faith-Driven Entrepreneur, and it has unlocked a lot of things that I was feeling. But now I feel like he did a good job of putting it onto paper and laying things out in an organized way, which is— means he's a tremendous author. So the first scripture that I wanted to go over, Proverbs 16:3, and it's, it's saying, commit your works to the Lord and your plans will be established. So this brings to mind purpose over profit. Why are you doing the thing? Has the Lord instilled something inside of you, like a passion, a talent, that you were supposed to utilize for the kingdom? And when I say for the kingdom, you can do this in the marketplace. You bring the kingdom to the marketplace. I think this is huge. I think this is crucial to seeing a turnaround in our country and our economy, if we're going to continue to grow economically and grow fruit and be fulfilled, we have to implement Jesus. We have to implement God into our workplaces. And even if you don't technically say the word God or Jesus, whenever somebody goes into your business, whenever somebody is a client, they need to experience that joy, that light, that passion to where something seems a little bit different. They feel lighter when they walk in the room. And so that's one of my goals here at our studio is like I try to have music going every single time somebody comes in. I try to have the lights just right. I try to have the waters ready. And so everything is done with excellence so that hopefully in turn I can minister to them without even having to say a word. Obviously, I've had conversations and conversations are great, but there's specific times that I believe that those conversations are anointed moments. And so those are kingdom-timed moments that you need to be in tune with the Holy Spirit on. So purpose over profit. Go check out Proverbs if you want some more amazing life tips and wisdom. Solomon was a wisdom guy. There's like most of these, or I have a few different scriptures from Solomon in different books. The second scripture I wanted to bring up was Matthew 6:33. But seek first the kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given unto you. Now, whenever it says all these things, I don't think it quite literally means all the things, because if it's a sinful thing, obviously it's not gonna happen. Um, if it's something that you desire or want that is against the will of your life, then it's probably not going to happen. This is why it's crucial to have discernment and be in touch with the Holy Spirit, in touch with God every single day so that you can know what is it that the Lord is wanting me to do. And it— this is how he's going to basically open up those doors. Priority is key whenever it comes to planning, strategizing, going to work, working with clients. Are you prioritizing money? Are you idolizing money or are you prioritizing the kingdom and God? And so this is something that I have to continually remind myself, especially here in the United States where money is a huge idol. Capitalism has brought in, um, this huge idea that money will solve everything and if you have more of it, you'll have a better life. I don't think that's necessarily true. Um, I know that's not true. Uh, we see it all throughout scripture whenever people are worshiping the gold calf, it's just an idol. Um, this is not what brings true fulfillment in our lives. And I don't know about you, but that's what I want. I want fulfillment within my personal life so that I can bear fruit. This is how you're going to be fulfilled in your life, in your heart, and you're not going to feel like you're missing something or there's a gap in there. Make sure to check out more of that scripture. Priority is key. Next scripture, let's move on to Deuteronomy 8:18. But you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you power to get wealth. Um, this is a friendly reminder that you do not own the money. You are not actually in control. Um, a lot of people love to have that control, especially if you're a business owner. That's one thing that I struggle with, is like, I can't let go of the tight grip of my finances, of delegating, of spending money on certain things, of tithing sometimes. Like, it's hard. It's not, it's not a natural thing. It's, it's a flesh feeling that you don't want to do this. You want to hold on and cling tight to what you, what it is you have. Um, I read a great book, uh, I think it's called The, The Treasure Principle. And so basically it talks about how, hey, we are money managers for the kingdom. If you have, say, $10,000, for example, that $10,000 is not necessarily yours. You need to be, um, in connection and in communication with the Holy Spirit to see, okay, where am I going to put this $10,000? Does he want me to multiply it this way? Does he want me to multiply it this way? And by the way, you need to be multiplying this money. Um, so this is what we're called to do, and I think it's important to, uh, not be dumb with our finances or careless in our finances because We are called to steward it, steward whatever it is we're doing, our finances, our body, our health, our relationships. Finances are no different. And so remember that the next time that you get a large check or any check at all, think of that money as your kingdom money that you are being the manager for. This has been a game changer for me. This has been probably within the last year or 2 years. This has finally clicked for me and I'm like, Man, if I have $100 in my account and the Lord tells me, hey, go buy that person's meal, who am I to say what to do with that money? It's not actually mine. And literally that has happened before. And I told my wife, I'm like, hey, I don't know why, but we are— we need to pay for their meal. And there was literally no connection or correlation. We didn't know them. We literally had $100 in a bank account at the time. And so was it scary? Yes. But did I feel fulfilled after? 100%. Um, if I wouldn't have taken that opportunity to do that and the Lord told me, I would have regretted not doing it. So you're a money manager for the Lord and his finances. Um, there's a couple more scriptures in Ecclesiastes. Uh, if you don't know anything about Ecclesiastes, it's probably the greatest book in the entire Bible for business owners and people in business. In finance. So, you know, one question I get all of the time is, Darren, how in the world do your videos look and sound so freaking crispy? And so I want to let you in on a little secret. It has little to do with what I do and pretty much all to do with the type of gear that I use. And I've put together a document with all of the gear that I recommend if you're looking into going all in on content this year. There's ways to do it on multiple different budget levels, and I'll give all those options within this spreadsheet. But if that's something that's interesting to you, click the link down below in the description and you can grab that for absolutely free. Hopefully it changes your life and you come back and watch more videos. Let's get back to the episode. These scriptures are huge. There's a lot more, but I'm not going— if we read all of them, we'd be here all day. But I wanted to pick out Ecclesiastes 11:4 and Ecclesiastes 11:6. So 11:4, farmers who wait for perfect weather never plant. If they watch every cloud, they never harvest. Let's break this down. This is huge. Um, this is a huge unlock, hopefully for you, just as it much was for me. Farmers who wait for perfect weather never plant. What does this mean? There's never going to be perfect circumstances for you to do the thing God is calling you to do. I want you to take that thing and take action on it. If you continue to wait for the perfect weather, for the perfect thing— this even goes to— it makes me think of having kids. There's no perfect timing to have a child other than the Lord's timing. Whenever we were thinking about having our First daughter, Olivia, she's almost 9 months old now at the time of this video. But I was 23 years old whenever she was born. And a lot of people who we know, they're like, we want to wait till we're older, we want to wait till we're 30, 34 to get started, whenever we're more established, whenever we're blah, blah, blah. That could be you. I want to start this business once I have X amount of dollars of capital raised. Um, if it's truly something that the Lord's put on your heart, God will provide the finances. God will provide the way and open the doors that you need. And so I want to encourage you to step into that and go ahead and take action. Let's continue. If they watch every cloud, they will never harvest. All the opportunities and doors that open, that go by over time, you're going to have moments where it's like, oh, I need to do this. And 9 times out of 10, With our current culture, nobody wants to take risk. Nobody wants to go all in or have any faith or take that leap of faith. And so they end up just watching it go by while you're working your 9-to-5 job. And this is huge within entrepreneurship because you also have to be careful to watch out for what's called the woman in the red dress. There's going to be a lot of opportunities that come up. But it's like, which one do you actually take? And which one is the biggest one that God wants you to prioritize right now? That's something that I've had to wrestle with. And there's been multiple opportunities for me to branch off and do different types of things in different type of industries. And it's like, okay, we got to keep the main thing the main thing. Are we going to be wasting our time being pulled away from what the Lord is calling us to do in this season to go chase some extra dollars, to go chase some extra dopamine hits, whatever it is? And so think about that. The next, uh, verse is Ecclesiastes 11:6, just 2 verses lower. Plant your seed in the morning and keep busy all afternoon, for you don't know if profit will come from one activity or another, or maybe both. This is also a good reminder of you're not actually in control. Um, the Lord is opening up these doors and making these things happen for you. Plant your seed in the morning and keep busy all afternoon. To me, the way that I interpret this is, um, this goes back to even Matthew 6:33, seek first the kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given unto you. What are you doing first thing in the morning? Are you talking to God? Are you getting into the word? Are you praying? Are you going over scripture, learning these things, making it renew your heart and transform your, your mind? Renew your mind daily. Are you doing that in the morning? Plant your seed in the morning and keep busy all afternoon. So go to work. The Lord calls us to go to work, and whenever you do go to work, work hard. But at the end of the day, you don't know if profit will come from one activity or another, or maybe both. Now, you can think you know, you can have a prediction, and the longer you're in business, the, the more your prediction skills go up. So, the things that you implement your time into doing, the risk actually goes down over time because of your experience. But still, even the greatest investors on the planet have had moments, the greatest businesses on the planet have had moments where they almost lost everything, they lost everything, had to restart and go back to the beginning because they didn't know that one thing was going to happen. I think of COVID Like a lot of businesses went under during COVID and, and we didn't know this was going to happen. We didn't know that that was part of the Lord's plan. And, and what are we going to do? We're just going to keep going to work. We're going to plant our seed in the morning, keep going to work, be faithful, be loyal, be trustful, because God has a greater plan than your plan. Um, but keep busy all afternoon. Don't be lazy. Don't be sitting at home playing video games. One thing that drives me crazy about my generation is a lot of guys, they'll go to just work for 6 to 8 hours, pretty easy job depending on where it's at. They'll come home and literally play video games till they go to sleep, wake up in the morning, go to work, come home, play video games. Like, what kind of life is that? If you're an entrepreneur building something, You have got to be working. Um, and sometimes that requires a little bit longer days. Don't make it an idol in your life because that's another thing that I had to learn. Go check out the book Faith-Driven Entrepreneur and go check out the book Ruthless Elimination of Hurry by John Mark Comer, and that will help you understand a little bit better, like, hey, you're making work an idol. It can be an idol just like money can. Just like anything else can. Alcohol, drugs, relationships, people. Your spouse can be an idol if you let it. But what are you focusing on and what are you spending your time on? Um, go to work, work hard when you're there, and whenever you get home, you be with family, you be with friends intentionally, because, um, relationships are going to be the only thing that we're taking to heaven. Like, we're not taking anything else here. I don't get this amazing cool studio and my amazing clients in heaven. And so think about this, this is all these things God wants to be a part of it. And I honestly don't know how business owners go through this without having this mindset and this faith and having that much pressure and burden on your shoulders. If something goes down, downward and fails and you have to close, Like, that's not going to be on your shoulders because the Lord has a plan. And being a believer and being a kingdom-minded business owner, this needs to be your mindset. And so things aren't always going to work out how you want it. But again, my pastor always says, God's butt is bigger than your butt. So what are you going to do moving forward? Are you going to get back up? Are you going to go take down the giant like David? Are you going to go fight back? Or are you going to let that defeat you? And continue to bring you down. So God wants to partner with you. If that's the thing that you get out of this, this video, that's the one thing. God wants to partner with you and your business. God wants to partner with you and what it is you're going to start in the near future. The time is now. There's no better day than today to get started on at least thinking about the direction that you want it to go in, um, because literally faith without works is dead. And so you can have all the faith in the world and be like, Lord, I know you're going to do it. I know you're going to do it. But, but if you never take action, it's going to not happen. And so whether you've started a business or whether you're wanting to start a business, make sure to prioritize. This is one thing that I wish I knew before I started. And it wasn't that I didn't know it. I knew it. I just didn't implement it. God has a plan and God has given you this passion and this burning desire. For a reason. And so I want to encourage you, just like in 2 Timothy when Paul is talking to Timothy saying, "Hey, I'm about to die, but I want to encourage you and motivate you to fan the flame that the Lord has given you." So the passions, the talents, use those things for the Kingdom and implement them within your business. Make your business a Kingdom business. So whenever people experience you in the marketplace, they can be exposed to the love of God, the joy of God, the peace of God. and all the fruits of the spirit. And so, um, that's pretty much all I had today. Thanks for being a part of the podcast.
