AI Agents Need Job Descriptions

In this talk, the speaker argues that treating AI agents as a true workforce requires giving each agent a formal job description rather than merely assigning tools or prompts. He likens hiring AI agents without clear roles to using a nameless automation slot machine—unpredictable and hard to manage. To integrate AI agents into a company's operating model, each should have five defined elements: a role, a measurable outcome, a decision boundary, an escalation rule, and a review cadence. This role‑centric approach mirrors how humans are hired for executive assistant, analyst, recruiter, or operations positions, where responsibilities, decision authority, tools, escalation paths, and performance metrics are explicitly defined. The speaker contends that CEOs who succeed with AI will not be those who accumulate the most tools, but those who redesign work so both humans and machines understand their specific jobs, enabling effective management of an AI workforce.
