This is a YouTube video titled "Asking for a pay raise? DO THIS" containing a discussion between two speakers about strategies for negotiating salary increases, including researching market rates and leveraging networks. The content is focused on practical advice for compensation negotiation and was created in February 2024.
What's the best advice? Just always ask for more. It's like, get a job offer. Wasn't going to ask for more. Ask for more. Got 20% more. And it's like, if you didn't ask for that, would you have gotten it? And how do you know what you should ask for?
I think there's a couple, you know, free compensation tools that you can just, you know, google marketing manager salary in New York City and see what pops up. You can also aggregate some information on LinkedIn. Let's say if you're looking for that marketing manager role in New York, salaries have to be posted and you can start to get a sense of averages and minimums. Sometimes the ranges, they're not helpful, right? You'll see a Netflix posting and it's like 150k to 250k. That's not really helping any of the candidates that are looking. Ask your network. If I were to join your team, what's the standard range for this type of role? What they're seeing in the current space. Try to get that sense. Every quarter it changes drastically.
