This is a YouTube video titled "WHY you should use Vanity URLs" containing a monologue or talk discussing the impact of privacy changes on UTM tracking, specifically referencing Apple's recent modifications and advocating for cleaner, vanity URLs for marketing and tracking purposes. The content is from May 2024 and focuses on digital marketing strategies.
Steve Jobs would be rolling in his grave if he knew about utms. Apple in the summer of last year started to strip out UTM codes from Apple mail and Apple messages. And every year some new sort of privacy change that comes about that makes it harder to use click tracking the same way that you've been doing for the last 10, 20 years. If you've ever seen the URLs for like, launches that they do, it's like apple.com iPad we have ruined that. I love the vanity URL. Like, yes, let's, let's do better on our end to like drive to a page. Like, we put so much like, okay, you gotta have this utm because if you, somebody didn't click through this UTM link, like, it didn't happen. Well, like, no, that looks awful. Like, it looks like exit5.com?_ utm source. It should just be clean. It should just be exit5.com and we should figure out how to measure it from there. Excellent.
