Ask CLG: What if they're unconscious? - Episode 4

When your leader isn't self-aware, you can't change them. Focus on what you control: stay curious, listen without reacting, and decide consciously whether to stay. Release the expectation they'll become more conscious.
Chapters
How do you remain open and curious as a leader when you work for unconscious leaders who are not open and curious? How do you exit the drama triangle when shift moves, bring me out. Don't actually end the initiation of the ongoing drama.
This is a good question. Okay, so you're going to have to pay attention to what's in your control and what's not in your control. So it's, I hear it's not in your control to get somebody over there, a leader in your organization to be more present, more conscious. And so you're going to have to recognize and be honest about that's not going to happen for them. So knowing that, you then have to come back to creator above the line and recognize. I choose to work with people for whom aren't practicing this or aren't going to be conscious so that you're not a victim. And then you're going to from there recognize from this choice. I will do my best to just stay present without expectation that they're going to be different. Because it's when you start to expect they should be conscious that you're going to get reactive. So turn it around. They shouldn't be conscious. It's not their commitment. It's not what they're up to. And I choose to collaborate with them so I don't have to be at the effect of their behavior. I can choose to stay present over here, open and curious and listen thoughtfully and do what I can to be in relationship to people who don't want to play the same game I want to play.
