A short talk from Conscious Leadership Group defining ‘Personas’ as masks or attitudes leaders adopt to connect with others. The speaker contrasts conscious leaders who deliberately choose Personas with unconscious leaders who are controlled by them, and encourages leaders to identify effective Personas and stop being controlled by ineffective ones.

At Conscious Leadership Group, one of the things that we like to do is help leaders learn more about their Personas. What are Personas? Personas are these masks or these ways or attitudes that we're being that allow us to connect more effectively to others around us. Now, there are two ways we can have a Persona. Think of Personas like a coat that you might pick out of the closet that's appropriate for the particular scene that you're in. So if you're above the line, more conscious as a leader, you're going to decide which coat or which Persona do I want to put on at this time that will be most effective for myself and those around me. If I'm unconscious or below the line, I'm not going to pay attention to that Persona, and instead it's going to unconsciously going to choose me. I'm going to say to myself, I have to be this way. This is the only way I can get these people to do their work. And so I get stuck in a should of how I have to show up in the world. So we are really interested in helping you get to know what are some of the Personas that you use that get you a lot of goodies? Can you start to become more aware of them and use them more often if they work for you? But also take a look at what are some of the Personas that aren't working for you. How are they costing you and your organization? Let's get to know them, and let's help you learn how to play them so they stop playing you.
