They've got a VP of Engineering, VP of Marketing, and they think that this person is pivotal, but they're toxic to the culture and they can't bring themselves to fire this person because they think it's like the string that will unravel the whole thing. And then finally they work up the courage to do what they know in their heart is right to do. And lo and behold, what happens is the exact opposite of their story. The culture starts to lift and the company actually does way better than they would have if they had kept the person. And I'd say the most universal insight I hear from founders who finally work up the courage to let go of someone that they've been scared to let go of is, oh my God, why didn't I do that sooner? So if you're even thinking about someone on your team not being maybe a perfect fit or just have an intuition, to let them go, it's time to let them go and be courageous and make that hard call.
