Dave Kashen says take 100% responsibility for your current situation when your vision feels off track. He walks through an exercise called Write the Recipe to identify the beliefs, actions, and avoidance patterns that got you there, then reverse them to get back on course.

Here's a question I received recently. Dave, I have this vision I'm so inspired by, but it currently seems like things are not on track for it to happen. What do I do? First thing I say is take your 100% responsibility for how things are the way they are now. Right? Most people want to go right to problem solving and try to create the future they want. First, you got to get to how did I create it the way it is now? And only once you do that, will you see how to create it the way you want instead? One of my favorite exercises for this is called Write the Recipe. I'm like, okay, if I wanted to be off track from realizing a vision I'm inspired by, how would I create it the way you have? And if you're willing, most of the time you can actually come up with a whole set of recipe of things you have to believe, avoid, do, not do. You'll see all there is to do is the exact opposite of all those things. So just reverse your recipe. And you'll get yourself on track once you realize how you've created being off track.
