A short informational video by Dr. Don of Delta Janitorial Systems arguing that poor indoor air quality (IAQ) is a major contributor to illness—citing claims that up to 50% of illnesses are caused or aggravated by indoor air and that many indoor pollutants can be 100 to 10,000% higher than outdoor levels. The video connects IAQ to lost productivity and health costs, highlights risks from conventional cleaning practices and certain cleaning-product chemicals, and promotes green cleaning methods (low-toxicity products, HEPA/ultra-high filtration vacuums, improved dust collection). The speaker offers additional free videos on choosing janitorial services.

Hello, My name is Dr. Don with Delta Janitorial Systems. In this video, I'll be talking about some information claiming that up to 50% of illnesses may be caused by poor indoor air quality. How many hours a day do you spend in the office? How many hours a week? A month? A year? Add up the hours. Most Americans average over 90% of their time indoors. How do you rank against these statistics? According to the EPA, the U.S. environmental Protection Agency, indoor air pollution ranks among the top five environmental risks to public health. Their statistics show that levels of many airborne indoor pollutants may be 100 to 10,000% greater than that of regular outdoor air. In other words, the air in your office may be making you sick. The more time you spend indoors, the sicker you may become. This is not just a concern of the epa. In addition, other prominent health organizations have either adopted or are adopting indoor air quality policies and standards. Some of these include the American Lung association, the World Health Organization, the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute. There are also frightening research results from several health education organizations. The American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology states that over half of illnesses are caused or aggravated by indoor air. The US Department of Energy studies state that improving indoor air would reduce sick leave and health care costs as well as increased performance. The Department estimates that this increased productivity would result in gains of 30 to 150 billion annually. The University of California, Los Angeles, their Pollution Prevention Education and Research center states that chemicals found in common cleaning products have been associated with conditions such as reproductive toxicity. Next, there are suspected carcinogens or cancer causing chemicals in approximately 22% of the sampled products. Other studies show that improper dust collection can pollute indoor air with contaminants that may cause chronic headaches, sinus congestion, sinus infection, sore throat, asthma and fatigue. The improper collection techniques can leave behind dust mites, dead skin cells, chalk dust, virus laden particles, pet dander, soil, clothing fiber, carpet fragments, mold, bacteria, insect parts. Green cleaning is a methodology of providing janitorial services that improves indoor air quality by using cleaning products that don't give off toxic fumes, by using ultra high filtration vacuums, and by using dust collection practices that don't put dust back into the air like a traditional feather duster or a broom. Why put your stealth and your staff at risk? As a result of these widespread and toxic janitorial practices, green cleaning actually improves indoor air quality and costs no more than standard janitorial cleaning. You and your staff deserve the healthiest work environment possible, so don't settle for less. This is Dr. Don and I'll see you in the next video.
