Corona Virus: People are Nervous, Should They Be?

Beth from Cleveland calls Dennis Prager worried about COVID-19 after three cases hit her city, closing offices and schools. She's concerned for immunocompromised people, though Prager argues the flu poses similar risks to vulnerable groups.
I don't think the health of the world is in jeopardy. Cleveland, Ohio. Beth. Hello, Beth.
Hi. Um, I was calling, I listen to your show all the time. Um, and I agreed with you about the coronavirus. Um, but after over the past few days, there were 3 cases, um, where I live and one of them is someone who my husband knows and his work knows. They closed his office. And there's been a lot of ramifications in the community here.
What are the ramifications?
So his office is closed. My kids' school was supposed to have a big dinner on Sunday. They canceled it. I went to an exercise class this morning. There were maybe 5 people there when there's usually 20. So people are nervous. And as much as I agreed with you about the hysteria when it gets close to home and it's not someone I personally know, but people I know know, it gets a person nervous. You know, before this it seemed very far away, but, um, out of the 3 cases that came to Cleveland, people know one of the people who got the coronavirus. So I don't know how the person—
what is the health of the, of the, that person or the 3 people Do you know?
I don't know. I think they're healthy people. They said they're between the ages of like 52 and 55. They haven't come out with any information.
So if it turns out that they had all the symptoms of a regular flu, got better, didn't need a hospital even, will you be calmer as a result? Or not?
I don't think so, because it came to our community, and I'm not necessarily, necessarily nervous for myself, but I'm nervous for people who have maybe an immune, immune issue or a sickness or going through chemotherapy, things like that. So if it spreads and it goes beyond these 3 people, which most likely it will because people were exposed to these 3 people, what's the result for people who are not necessarily as strong, right?
Now, it's a very fair question if they contract it, but that's true of the regular flu for people with compromised health and the elderly.
