Julie Hartman says American parents still desperately want their kids at elite schools like Harvard, just as much as before. She worked extremely hard to get in herself, but admits she's unsure if she'd push her own children the same way.
I wonder how many American parents 20 years ago, and for the last 50, 80, how many parents right now care less about whether their kid goes to college or care less about what college their kids go to than 25 years ago?
I have a newsflash for you. This has not changed it. The same people who want their kids to go to Harvard are unfazed by this. Now, the reason why I said that's important— oh, it is. I am convinced of it. Jewish parents as well as non-Jewish parents, they still want their kids to go to these universities that I'm certain of. That's why I say it's going to take something even bigger to really knock these places down in prestige. And I say this very, you know, regrettably, because I worked my tail off to get into Harvard. I gave up my whole life to get into Harvard.
God willing, you'll have children. Will you— this is independent, it's related but independent. I'm, I've never asked you this, and I'm really curious.
