Dennis Prager argues that love alone doesn't make good people. Children need discipline, clear rules, and intentional character-building, or they become what he calls a "well-loved barbarian." Moral frameworks matter more than affection.
This is the most important question. How do you make good people? Most people are not preoccupied with this question because people think that people are basically good. They think all you have to do is give kids love. But as I've said all of my broadcast life of 40 years, if all you give your child is love, you will end up with a well-loved barbarian. Love is hardly enough. Discipline and guardrails and guidelines and character building are actually more important even than love. And I'm certainly a big fan of love. Every normal person is.
