A debate over what matters most in a leader: competence or character. One speaker argues you'd pick the skilled pilot even if flawed, so voters should choose based on ability to lead, not personal virtue. The other concedes the ideal but says current politics forces a practical choice between Trump and Biden.
You have a choice. The most competent pilot on Delta Airlines who is regularly unfaithful to his wife, a deadbeat dad, not reliable in business dealings. Best pilot that Delta has. Mediocre pilot who's faithful to his wife, a terrific father, great friend, loyal and honest. Which one do you want to fly your plane? Okay, it's a rhetorical question. Everyone knows the answer.
I understand that in an ideal world we would want the president of the United States to be an—
of course, ideally we want of course, George Washington was both.
Yes. But right now we are in a moment where this is our choice. And I have to— and of course, there are many parts of his personal life or personal character that I don't like. But frankly, I don't care. I'm not voting for a husband. We're comparing Donald Trump to Joe Biden. I don't want to hear it about character. I don't want to hear it.
