Dennis Prager argues that conservatives genuinely believe in the values they promote and wouldn't claim exemptions from their own rules. He acknowledges human weakness but insists there's no legitimate sense in which conservative standards don't apply to conservatives themselves.
We do think our values are better. If we didn't, why the hell would we advocate them? Right. But I mean, I know virtually every single prominent conservative. I mean, in most cases pretty well. And they would laugh at the idea that the rules don't apply to them. Right. It would be inconceivable to these people to think that way. They may break some rules because they're weak or they're whatever there might be. Human beings— no, no side has angels. But there is no sense that the rules I advocate don't apply to me.
