In this conversational excerpt, Dennis Prager argues that face masks may be counterproductive because they increase face‑touching and notes a shortage of masks for those who truly need them. He describes two fully‑occupied flights from Florida to California where no passengers wore masks, emphasizing the absurdity of full planes without protective measures. Prager then frames the coronavirus as a variant of the seasonal flu, citing 2017‑2018 U.S. flu deaths (≈62,000) and suggesting that if COVID‑19 caused a similar death toll the economy would collapse. He points out that most COVID‑19 deaths occur among the elderly, likening the risk profile to flu mortality, and remarks that the virus is hard to detect, questioning the justification for an economic shutdown. Donald Trump interjects, accusing Democrats of politicizing the pandemic, claiming they lack competence, and linking the crisis to broader political attacks on his administration. Both speakers portray media coverage as panic‑inducing and present the pandemic response as a hoax or overreaction driven by partisan motives.

But they do nothing for the person wearing the mask. I heard that it's actually problematic because most people wearing them for the first time, or, you know, even the 10th time, are likely to touch their face much more than people who are not wearing a mask. I mean, how often do you touch your face? So it may actually be counterproductive. But it is certainly dangerous because the people who need them now can't buy them because people have bought them. Now interestingly, I flew from Florida to LA last night and I flew on two flights because I wanted to fly into— I don't like flying into LAX, America's worst big airport. So I fly whenever possible to Burbank. So we stopped in Dallas, and on both flights from Fort Lauderdale to Dallas and Dallas to Burbank, they were completely full, which is redundant. Full is full, but I'm nevertheless emphasizing their fullitude. And nobody wore a mask, and the flights were full. So Nevertheless, all these meetings are being canceled. Costco has run out of toilet paper. And I am looking into this, and my sense is, as of now, I may be proven wrong, and I know nobody hopes I'm proven wrong. We all hope for the best. But it seems to me this is just a variant of the flu. In Italy, where people have died, the average age of the person who has died is 80. It's in the New York Times by this Italian writer today, just now came out. 80, 80-year-olds who get the flu are more susceptible to death than 50-year-olds who get the flu. If they catch anything, they're more susceptible to death. The human being is not immortal, and generally people have compromised immune systems later in life. And if they have a compromised immune system earlier in life, they are also more likely to die of the flu or of the coronavirus. The coronavirus, by the way, is not even easily detected. It's not like, oh, he has the coronavirus. No, they're not always certain who has it. So we're having an economic shutdown over something that is not fully identifiable. It may be a variant of the flu. What were the numbers you gave me on the flu deaths? 2017. In 2017. 18. 2017 to 2018 flu season in the United States, 61,000 people died in the United States of the flu, 2017 to 2018, 3 years ago. 62,000. Can you imagine if 62,000 died of the coronavirus? It would be the end of the economy. Nothing would happen. People would stay home. The president said that, uh, what did he say exactly? That what was the, uh, what was the hoax again? Oh, the coverage. Yeah, he thinks the coverage is, is, includes Fox News, by the way, everybody.
Now the Democrats are politicizing the coronavirus. You know that, right?
Coronavirus.
They're politicizing it. We did one of the great jobs. You say, how's President Trump doing? They go, oh, not good, not good. They have no clue. They don't have any clue. They can't even count their votes in Iowa. They can't even count. No, they can't. They can't count their votes. One of my people came up to me and said, Mr. President, they tried to beat you on Russia, Russia, Russia. That didn't work out too well. They couldn't do it. They tried the impeachment hoax. That was on a perfect conversation. They tried anything. They tried it over and over. They've been doing it since she got in. It's all turning. They lost. It's all turning. Think of it. Think of it. And this is their new hoax, right?
Their new hoax is, is that he's not prepared, that he's not doing anything about it. And also the, the panic of the, of the media. That's what I believe it is.
