Depression rates among young women are at an all-time high, surpassing even the Great Depression and World War II. The speakers suggest modern cultural messages about career and the choice to skip marriage and children may leave women without a clear sense of purpose.
The highest percentage ever recorded since they started recording this issue of young women is depressed today, as opposed to at any time that measurements were taken. In other words, there are far more depressed young women today than during the Depression.
I know.
Than during World War II, where there was a real chance that your, your father or your brother would not come home or would come home a wreck. And they were happier people. They were happier women then. Why? So what has gone awry? Maybe the whole message of, of vocation is everything. I mean, they're opting not to marry. They're opting not to have children. So what are they opting for?
It's so sad. I don't even know what they're— I don't think they know what they're opting for.
