Can I Workout When I am Sick

Dheenaaz explains a simple rule: mild symptoms above the throat like a stuffy nose or low-grade fever allow light exercise, which can help relieve congestion. But symptoms below the throat, lung infections, or severe pain need rest because your body can't effectively recover during infection.

Do you feel that when you feel unwell and you're under the weather, you don't feel like exercising? I have found that a lot of people do not exercise when they are unwell. In the last several years, a lot of people have been coming to me and asking me whether they can exercise or not. Hi, my name is Dheenaaz, and in this video I'll be sharing with you when you can actually exercise when you're a bit unwell and when you should not exercise when you're unwell. Well, research says that if you have mild to moderate infection, you can exercise and you can do mild exercises and still feel really good about it. So If you have any ailment above the throat, which is a, you know, a stuffed nose or a cold, a mild temperature, anything that is above the throat, that time you can go and exercise. And actually, when you do that, when you have some congestion and you go and exercise during that period, I have seen that it actually opens up the pores and you start feeling better. If you have anything below the throat, which is anything to do with lung infection or a cough, a flu, body pains, an infection, and you don't feel like moving your body, that's the time— that is that time when you need to listen to your body and you should not exercise during that period. When you do exercise during that period, I want you to know that you will not burn any calories because the body does not burn fat when it is infected or when it has infection. So you're just working out because you want to please yourself. So if you really want the desired goals, that's the time you really need to take rest and not work out. Of course, if you also are not well from the musculoskeletal perspective and if you have body pains like backache, neck ache, knee pains, that's the time you need to listen to your body and strike that balance of working out or not working out. I have also seen that a lot of people for small aches and pains, uh, make a very big deal out of it and so kind of not work out, and that's like one of those excuses for not working out. But I want you to know that if it's just a mild ache and pain, you can go and do a moderate exercise. But if you have got severe backache because you've fallen down or you've picked up something badly or got a spasm in your back, you've got a spasm in your neck and your knees hurt, that's the time you need to give your body complete rest and strike that— learn to strike that balance between working out when you're not well and not working out when you're not well. So I hope you've understood and understood that you've got to listen to your body when your body is not well. These are the small broad— these are the broad guidelines of working out when you're not well. So I hope you like the video. I look forward to seeing you in my next video.
