Hi friends, my name is Dinaaz, and in this video I will be sharing some things that I went through in my journey of weight loss, weight gain, and how things were from the age of 16 right up till now. Well, when I was in school, my friends, my brother's friends especially, used to call me golgappa, which is round golgappas. So I was really round and chubby. I really couldn't be bothered. I was not conscious, I was not body shy, nothing at all. When I went to college, one fine day, I just wanted to lose weight. So I'm— we're talking about when I was 16. So in 1980, in 1982, 1983, 1984, that's the time I suddenly wanted to lose weight. And because of a lack of awareness, and awareness in society as well those days, all I did was cut back on my diet. And I cut back my diet very drastically. When I did that, I definitely lost all the extra pounds. But I also lost my entire immunity system. And this message is especially for my young friends out there who feel that they want to lose weight and they just cut back on the diet suddenly. When that happened, my immunity system dropped down so badly that every other day I was sick and I needed to be taken to the doctor because I got a flu and a fever all the time. And all the doctors said that she needs to start eating better. Well, year— time went by, and then I got married and I got into this industry in 1993. When I started, those days we never talked about diets, we never talked about anything. We all just went, we all exercised, we felt healthy, we felt we lost weight, and that was it. Suddenly I went into this mode of not wanting to eat any carbs at all in my diet. So I went off carbs completely. So I would have— I would never eat junk food, never eat any rice, no rotis, no bread, nothing at all. Now, at that level, I experienced that I was very disciplined. Today I can tell you that I wasn't really disciplined. I was obsessed with myself, with the way I looked and the way I felt. Friends, I want you to know that that also is not healthy, because when you cut out a certain portion, certain food group from your diet, that also is not healthy. So I went on with this kind of a diet for a very, very long time, very long time. And then I finished the Guinness Record and I went on, went ahead, and in 2012 I went for the Miss Fitness World and the Miss Fitness contest to the US. So I traveled with my husband and again very strict with my diet—no carbs, only proteins and vegetables, and hardly any fruit in my diet. When we were coming back from the trip, my husband told me that now this contest is over, no more dieting in this house. Can you imagine how I felt? I felt devastated. Here on one end, I wanted to rejoice that I have won something, and on the other hand, my best friend, my husband, my mentor has told me No more diets. How am I going to go back home? And how am I going to face people? How am I going to face the camera? And now I'm going to just become a big buffalo. I'm going to gain weight. So my mind was chattering without thinking. My mind kept chattering because I only knew to be obsessed. I didn't know how to balance that life. So the first thing I understood and I recognized that It is very important for me, for me to be happy, I need to make my family members happy. And definitely what advice he gave me, I knew at that time that it was in the interest of my health and the health of the family as well. So I started working on my fears one at a time, and when I started doing that, I started eating every single thing in moderation. I took a long time But I went slowly and slowly and slowly, and I started eating everything in moderation. When I started eating everything in moderation, I realized one thing, that I was feeling way more happier from inside than I felt when I was depriving my body of everything. So I want you to know one thing, that eating every single thing in moderation is very important. And do not be obsessed about anything that you read about, whether it is a keto diet or any special diet that's coming out or any special workout. All these fads will come and they will go as they have come and they have gone. What will remain is what you are used to doing culturally, what you are used to eating culturally, how active can you be in a day. Those are the things that are more important in your day-to-day life than following any fad. So I really and truly hope that my personal story, which I'm sharing with you for the first time, has inspired you to make a change of balancing out not only what you eat but also how much you work out and how to bring in your— the entire family element, which is very, very important for me. So So the values of the family and making yourself happy with the family is more important than just yourself, because it's not about yourself, it's about your family, it's about your health, and it's about the health of your family.
