Day 10 of a 12-part YouTube series by Dr. Don Wood offering holiday anxiety-reduction tips. In this episode Dr. Wood opens with light-hearted holiday commentary and music, reflects on symbolic meanings of the "Ten lords a-leaping" verse, shares a brief personal anecdote about a friend (Marco Giussetto) and prosthetics, and gives Tip #10: when feeling anxious or down, volunteer to help others — volunteering lifts spirits, provides accomplishment, and reduces anxiety by seeing others benefit.
You.
Welcome to the 12 Days of Heart Holiday Anxiety Reduction Tips. I'm Dr. Don Wood. I've been your guide throughout this. You're pretty used to me. Now. This is day 10 that we're getting into time flies. So day 10 going to. First start off, we got to get into the holiday spirit. I've got my. I think this is my favorite hat. I want it all.
Sums up my childhood. I wanted it all. So this is day 10. Let's also get Alexa. Alexa, play some holiday music.
Here's a station you might like. Holiday favorites on Amazon Music. Holiday favorites.
Oh, this is a great song.
I never remembered their names. Anyway, so let's take a look. On the tenth day of Christmas true love gave to me.
Ten lords a leaping. I think we really have to stop taking this so literally. It's pretty obvious this is all about symbolism. You see what you really want to see. Whether that's religious, spiritual, you know, you can put all kinds of meanings onto this. Personally, I think it sounds like something Bob Dylan would have written, but it's probably before his time. But that's just me personally. I don't know, maybe how old is Bob Dylan anyway? So, all right, so 10. What are we going to do with 10? What do we have 10 of? I know you have 10 fingers, you have 10 toes. So get your hands and feet involved. I'm assuming you all have that. So my friend Marco Giussetto doesn't. He doesn't have his. He lost his legs from a accident, frostbite. So he doesn't have 10 toes, but he has prosthetics, so it's like 10 toes. So Marco's a friend, so he would laugh at this. So ten finger, ten toes. What are we going to do? We're going to get involved. We're going to start helping people. So tip number 10 is volunteer. Whenever you're feeling a little down, feeling a little anxious, right? The best thing you can do is go out and help other people, people that maybe are less fortunate, maybe that they're struggling a little bit. When you go out and you volunteer, it gives you a sense of accomplishment. You feel better, that lifts your spirits, and so your anxiety will also just sort of fade away and melt away, especially when you get the satisfaction of seeing people smile, people thanking you for your help. So.
When you get that sense, right, that you're helping, you're doing something. Speaking of sense, the Inspire Performance Institute works with a sense of home. Great people that are helping Melissa and Georgie, helping young people who have aged out of the foster care system and they help them provide, get housing, get stable housing so that they can move on because they obviously need some help. So we donate our program to a Sense of Home. Great organization. So make a difference in someone else's life and change your life at the same time. Reduce your anxiety, make you feel better. How does that sound for holiday spirit? Again, stay tuned for some more tips. We got two more. Right? And there it is. That.
