Holiday Anxiety Reduction Tips Day 2

Dr. Don Wood teaches the 5-6-7 breathing technique: inhale for 5 seconds, hold for 6, exhale for 7. Do it four times to calm holiday anxiety and sleep better.
You.
Welcome to the 12 Days of Heart. And heart stands for holiday anxiety reduction tips. My name is Dr. Don Wood and I'm going to be your guide throughout this series. I'm the founder of the Inspired Performance Institute. So the idea is this is the holiday season. We want to have ways to maybe reduce some anxiety because the holiday season can bring even a lot of joy and laughter at the same time, some things can bother us, maybe get under our skin a little bit, create some anxiety. So here's some ideas this series is going to be guiding you through, and I'm going to be your guide on some ways to reduce that if that should come up. So since it's a holiday time, let's get in the holiday spirit and going to put on my holiday hat.
This one's a little tighter. Oh, another one. And as you can see, this sort of wraps up what my childhood Christmases were all about. I won it all. That's it. Let's also get in some holiday music. Alexa, play some holiday music.
Here's a station you might like. Holiday favorites on Amazon. Holiday favorites on Amazon. Oh, very good. Awesome. Deck the halls. Very good. So the second day in the theme of the 12 Days of Christmas is on day two, my true love gave to me two turtle doves. Well, at least we got flying birds this time, so that's a lot better. So two turtle doves. What does that sort of represent again? There's a lot of symbolism around this. So let's take a look. And what do we got with two turtle doves? Oh, this is really cool. So turtle doves are a symbol of friendship and love. Nice. That's perfect for holidays, right? Keep one and give the other to a very special person. As long as each of you has your turtle dove, you will be friends forever. That's really nice. That's what the holiday season is all about. So really cool. So how do I now we got two turtle doves. We got a bird that doesn't fly. I guess it flies, but ground bird doesn't get in trees. Maybe these turtle doves will get in the trees. Anyway, so two. Let's think about two. What can we connect with two? Two lungs, right? Those are friends together forever pretty much. Right. So lungs is all about breathing. I'm going to teach you a breathing technique. So whenever you're feeling a little anxious or you're feeling some anxiety, when you get lots of oxygen in your system, you can't feel anxious. Right. It calms everything down. A lot of times when we get anxious, we Stop breathing. We're not breathing as well. Becomes a little more shallow, a little less oxygen, and that's going to create a little bit of anxiety. So this is a breathing technique called the 5, 6, 7. And it's going to be you breathe in through your nose for five seconds. You hold it for six seconds and. And then you breathe out for seven seconds. I'm going to guide you all the way through it. I'll be walking you through and telling you what to do. So it's in through your nose for five, hold for six, out for seven. And we're going to do that four times and I'll guide you all the way through it. So, are you ready? Get nice and relaxed in a place where you're comfortable. And if we're ready, we're going to start breathing in through your nose. But first, little tip, breathe all the air out first because it makes it easier to take in a full set of lumps. Full. So they're air in your lungs. Right. So we're going to start off with blow all the air out that's currently in your lungs.
Now breathe in through your nose for 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. Hold. 1, 2, 3, 4,. 5, 6. Out through your mouth. 1, 2, 3, four, five, six, seven. Again in through your nose. 1, 2, 3, Four, five. Hold. 1, two, three, four, five, six. Out through your mouth. 1st, 2, 3, 4, five, six, seven. Again in through your nose. 1, Two, three, four, five. Hold. 1, Two, Three, four, five, six. Out through your mouth. 1, Two, Three, Four, five, six, seven. One more time in through your nose. 1, two, three, Four, five. Hold. One, two, three, four, Five, six. Out through your mouth. 1, Two, Three, Four million five, six, seven. Good job. So use that anytime you need to. It's a great tip. One of the things you can even do if you want to sleep better at night. It's a great thing to do before you go to sleep at night when you're lying in bed, do that breathing technique. It really does help relax the system, which is going to make it easier to sleep. It makes it easier to sleep. Obviously, it works for anxiety. Right. So perfect tip. Remember that our first one was laughter. Now we've got breathing. Keep looking for more of these tips in your inbox. We're going to be continuing to send them throughout the holidays. And there it is.
