The Reason Behind PTSD

Dr. Don Wood explains how traumatic memory replays as if it's happening now, using a case of a woman who couldn't drive after a car accident. After his program, she drove again and reported relief, suggesting the treatment reset how her brain stored the trauma.

I had a lady who had had a car accident a year before she came in to see us. She couldn't drive. She was having serious post traumatic stress. She would even have panic attacks and the anxiety. So she couldn't drive a car. She's still capable of driving that car. But every time she would get into the car, her mind would say, what do we know about driving this car? And it would go back to the accident. Now it's looking at the memory, the information about the accident she had a year earlier, and it's seeing it as if it's happening now.
So it's.
So can you see why your mind would try to stop you from getting into the car if it thought there was an accident coming? Even getting into a car with somebody else would still create it because, again, it's getting into a car. She had her husband drive her to come to the program. What was interesting is she recorded herself driving in. You could see the stress in her. She's recording herself and talking on the video. Her eyes are darting around back and forth. Just being in the car was creating the post traumatic stress.
On my way to the institute, now I'm in the car.
There's a lot. There's traffic. Not sure what to expect. Having to keep my eye on the traffic. I have a very good driver. I trust him. I just don't trust anyone else on the road.
So that's really what post traumatic stress is. Now, the good news about this is after she went through the program, her husband drove her back home. She actually got into the car and recorded herself driving the car around the neighborhood. She was laughing and giggling and saying, oh, my God, I'm driving the car. She wasn't experiencing the post traumatic stress because we had reached reset that old data that was running in the background.
I just went through the tip program tonight, and when I got home, I got in the car and I drove the car around the block. I haven't done that in over 10 months. I had really severe PTSD from a bad car accident. Four broken ribs. It almost killed me. I don't know how that's possible, but I'm just on cloud nine. Oh, my God.
Now she's just driving a car, not having the accident that happened a year ago still running through her mind.
