Affect labeling means naming the emotion you're feeling to calm down instantly. The speaker says three to four months of practice makes emotional triggers disappear entirely, and the technique works whether you're labeling your own feelings or someone else's.

I teach is called affect labeling, A-F-F-E-C-T. I teach you how to do third-party affect labeling, how to calm somebody else down, but I also teach you how to do self-affect labeling, which means you can literally calm yourself down in seconds. If you walk into a meeting and somebody insults you and you feel disrespected and you're starting to get riled up, you immediately go into self-affect labeling and calm yourself down, and you can calm yourself down in seconds. So you learn both ways. You learn how to manage your own reactivity and you learn how to manage reactivity of other people. And over time, as you practice and gain mastery, your reactivity disappears so that you no longer— it's no one can trigger you anymore. You cannot get triggered after you've practiced this for 3 or 4 months of practice. All those triggers go away.
