Born in 1950 with partial blindness, deafness, club feet, and other disabilities, a man couldn't walk until age four and failed school despite normal intelligence. When a nurse discovered his severe vision impairment and gave him thick corrective lenses, he suddenly could read. That summer he jumped two grade levels.
That's all. I was born with many disabilities. I was born partially blind, partially deaf, two club feet, left-handed, bad teeth, and bad hearing. I had a— and, and the problem was in the '50s, I was born in 1950, the problem is that nobody knew what to do with a kid like me.
Wait a minute, partially blind, partially deaf, what was the rest of it?
I had two club feet, I couldn't walk until I was 4 years old. I had multiple surgeries as a child. Um, they couldn't understand, I tested well on IQ, but they couldn't I didn't understand why I was failing in school until the 4th grade. The nurse put glasses— tested me for vision and found, hey, the kid can't see. My vision was 2400. So then they got big thick Coke lens glasses and all of a sudden I could read. And that summer I advanced 2 grade levels in one summer. So I learned to overcome these disabilities. It was really hard. I'm not going to kid around about that. It was, it was really hard.
