In this instructional video, Dr. Anne Truong explains that erections rely not only on blood flow but also on the strength and control of the pelvic floor muscles. Weak pelvic floor muscles can cause erectile difficulties even when circulation is adequate. She prescribes a specific Kegel routine for men: hold each contraction for 3 seconds, perform 10 repetitions per set, complete 3 sets, and repeat the whole routine twice daily. Crucially, the contraction must isolate the pelvic floor without engaging the glutes, abdominal muscles, or thighs. Following this protocol is presented as a way to improve erectile function by strengthening the relevant muscles.
