Forget ED Medications, This WORKS for Erectile Dysfunction | Shockwave Therapy

Shockwave therapy uses sound waves to treat erectile dysfunction, with two types: focused shockwave (reaches deeper, studied for ED) and radial shockwave (spreads superficially, mainly used for pain). Anne Truong MD explains how clinics target seven areas on the penis and pelvis, and notes shockwave works best alongside hormone therapy, lifestyle changes, and other treatments.

Hello there, modern man.
You ever wonder what the heck is shockwave therapy? Well, in this video, I'm going to show you exactly what it is and tell you the difference between what is focus shockwave and what is a radial shockwave. Radial, kind of like radial tires. Let's first let's talk about shockwave therapy. So this machine that I have here behind me in my office, it's called the focus shock wave. And this is what it looks like. What it is, it uses the energy of sound wave and that is delivered through mechanism here on this probe to the skin. And it goes deep to as deep as 12 centimeters. So when it goes to 12 centimeters, it's like a laser. It goes down that deep and it is focused, as you can see from the tip here, it focused down like a laser, 12 centimeter, but it's not a laser. It uses the energy of sound wave. And when that sound wave hit the tissue, what it does is it causes the cells in the tissue to undergo regeneration repair and therefore new blood vessels regeneration. It also break up scar tissue as well. So this machine here is the focus. It is the one that has been researched. A lot of research papers been written for it for erectile dysfunction. So this, the machine that I have, this is what it looks like. So if you are going to go to a clinic and you're going to be getting shockwave therapy, this is what the machine should look like. This with a screen and it should look like somewhat like this. It has a probe and it has a kind of like a soft silicone tip. And this is called focus shockwave. And it goes deep and it goes to the cellular level. Now contrast that with the other shockwave. It's called shockwave, but it's really called acoustic that way. So what it is, it has a bullet that is on the inside that travels through the barrel back and forth like this. And that bullet, when it hits the metal interface, it causes a change in the tissue, almost like a physical change. It only goes to about 4 cm versus 12 cm for the focus. But as you can see, the head is kind of widespread right here. And it spreads out like an umbrella. So it doesn't go deep like a laser. And it sounds kind of like a jackhammer. I'm going to turn it on for you like this. It sounds like a jackhammer, all right. And it's often used for ed. However, there is no research paper written about the radial shock wave. Okay, radial R A D I A L at this point. But this is used a lot for pain. What it does. It's good for pain, good for muscle tension, good for tendinitis and so forth. But it sounds like a jackhammer. So it looks very much different than the focus. The focus sounds like this sound kind of like a very small. All right, so it looks a lot different. And even the bass. This is the radio right here. It looks kind of like a little computer CPU and so does this. But as you can see, one, this is the radio sounds like this, right? And this is the focus, like a tick, tick, tick, tick, tick, tick, tick. Okay, so having said that, I hope that you'll be able to differentiate ask the clinic where you're going to whether you're getting the focus shockwave, which has been more research for erectile dysfunction, or you're getting the radial shockwave, which sounds like a jackhammer. Now, different clinic do different areas in the penis. In our clinic, we do seven areas. We do the shaft on both sides and on the base of the penis. We also target the pelvic muscle, which is the bulbo spongiosum, as well as the bulbocavernosum on the pelvis. And then we also target the nerve and the blood vessel near the end, just below the scrotum. And in some patient, we also target the prostate as well too. Now, the limitation with the radial, because it only can penetrate about 4 cm, it doesn't go deep. So you can't really access the radial to the pelvic muscles which are deep behind the scrotum. And you can't access the nerve as well too. So most of the time this radial is used on the penis shaft alone and you can treat other deeper muscles as well. Now, other people have asked me about the home unit shockway. Now, the home unit is just acoustic sound way, and it uses the bullet as well too, and works similar to this. This is actually the same class as a massager, but however, the focus shop way is a level two. It's like a laser. So it's only to be used in the doctor's medical office. So the home shop way. Yes. If you don't have anything and you have that to use, great, it doesn't hurt. But how it act is that again, it hits the tissue and it almost create like an injury to the tissue and that tissue tried to repair itself as well too. So having said that, I hope that this has been helpful in guiding you selecting the right modality and the right shock wave for your treatment. And know that you have ed. It takes more than just one modality. Sometimes you need shockwave Sometimes. In addition to that you also need hormones like testosterone. In addition to that you may even need your own platelets or stem cell to help repair the blood vessels as well as even Botox. And I talk about that in my other videos, so check it out here. Having said that, I want you to be informed so that way you can make the right decision for yourself and just know that lifestyle modifications such as diet, exercise, sleep and stress reduction will go a long way and if you add that on to the treatment in the office then you will definitely have a restoration for your sex life. So having said that, I hope you find this useful and that just know there are always solutions for your sex life. See you in the next episode.
