How does diabetes cause ed? Well, the first part is that. Remember we talked about in the last few episodes, that talked about the endothelium? Well, in the picture here, the endothelium is just that lining that's on the inside of your blood vessel. This is your blood vessel here. And the blood vessel has just a thin layer that is lined by cells that is called the endothelium. Imagine it's a sheet, a. Like a pipe. Imagine a pipe. And then it's on the inside the pipe. That's the sheath. That's the endothelium, the one thin layer. And that produces nitrous oxide. Nitrous oxide is critical for relaxing the smooth muscle here on the blood vessel in order to relax, so that way the blood vessel can expand to allow more blood flow.
