Hello there. Well, in today's episode, we're going to talk about what goes on in your body and your brain during an orgasm. Well, scientists have looked at the brain when people climax and they look at the brain by an FMRI or functional mri and as well as using PET scan or positron emission tomography scan. And these devices measure the blood flow and the neuron or the nerve activity in the brain during climax. So by studying the brain activity of people having orgasm in these machines, scientists have learned some pretty amazing stuff about the brain and the body when you have an orgasm. So number one, the logical part of your brain basically shut down during sex. That's the reason why you become bolder and less inhibited during sex. And the part of your brain that's in charge of logical reasoning is right here, temporarily goes on vacation. So the part that right here becomes less active and the decision making and the reasoning and the judgment becomes less active. That's why you have decreases in fear, less anxiety, you become less inhibited. That lead to. So if you stay more in this part of the brain, which is the frontal vortex, that tends to lead more to performance anxiety. All right? So you need that part to be shut down. Number two, multiple part of your brain are involved in having an orgasm. Essentially, your brain goes in an explosion, just not one area, but multiple areas at the same time, like the thalamus becomes more sensitive. That's how you can have more sexual fantasies. You have more sensitivity to touch and also movement. And then the organ called the hypothalamus, which is the gland in your brain, start producing oxytocin and prolactin. So number three, when you orgasm, your brain releases a surge of dopamine. Your brain essentially start working overtime to produce a slew of hormones and chemicals. One of those is dopamine, which is responsible for the feeling of pleasure, desire and motivation. So research has shown that it offers so much more than just a good time. And it's also a learning chemical. It helps you take notice of rewards. Like if you eat like food that you love, you get that dopamine rush. And particularly with sex. So number three, oxytocin hormone is released during orgasm and particularly with women that breastfeed. So oxytocin is secreted by the pituitary gland and is released in the hypothalamus. And this hormone make you feel close to others and it promotes affection. So oxytocin is known as the bonding hormone because it's released during breastfeeding to facilitate a sense of attachment and love. Another hormone called prolactin is also released during orgasm, is responsible for that feeling of satisfaction that accompanies with orgasm. And it's really your brain way of strengthening social connection during an orgasm. Number five, having an orgasm stimulate your brain in the same way as doing drugs or listening to your favorite music. And you're dancing and rocking to your favorite music. Surprisingly, the brain doesn't differentiate between sex or other pleasurable experiences. So that means that your brain makes you feel good and it's the same way as indulging in your favorite dessert. That's why gambling can give you the same rush as sex as well. So sex is experienced as pleasurable. And this is because it uses the reward pathway in our brain. And similarly to what your brain feels when you take drugs or even alcohol and gambling or eating your favorite dessert that you know that's not good for you. That's why sometimes losing weight is difficult, because you tend to certain food that especially sugary food can give you that surge. So number six, your brain gives off chemicals that make you less sensitive to pain during sex. So it's not in your imagination. So your body really is less sensitive to pain during sex because the pituitary gland, which is the gland in your brain, is activated. It produces endorphins, which is the feel me good hormone. And it produces oxytocin. It produces a hormone called the vasopressin that promote less pain, but more intimacy and more bonding. So this is the reason why explaining things that when you do things that gives you pain, a non sexual situation, but during sex it's not as painful, even be pleasurable. So number seven, orgasm and pain actually activate the same area, the brain. The reason why that some people derive sexual pleasure from experiencing pain might be Related to the fact that orgasm and pain come from the same area of the brain. Interestingly, number eight, after an orgasm, the brain releases hormones that make you feel happy and sleepy. Your brain actually tends to slow down a little bit, but it doesn't go off duty entirely. In both men and women, Orgasm signals the parasympathetic nervous system to kind of slow down and calming the body, it releases the oxytocin, which then facilitates bonding and cuddling. It also produces serotonin hormone. And serotonin is known to promote good mood and relaxation. That's why you feel somewhat drowsiness and desire to curl up as well, too. So if you feel sleepy after orgasms, because your brain is releasing the chemicals that really facilitate bonding and relaxation, and it actually activates the parasympathetic nervous system, which is the nervous system that you want to be in, because that's the system that promotes erection. That's the system that promotes relaxation as well too. But interestingly, number nine, that leads me to number nine. The brains of women tend to release oxytocin longer after orgasm than men. That's why women tend to behave a little bit differently after orgasm. They want to cuddle longer and to enjoy more, you know, cuddling and kissing than men. So number 10, in people who are unable to feel genital stimulation, the brain actually remaps itself and allow itself to reach orgasm. For instance, people that are paralyzed from the neck down can actually have orgasm because the brain reorganizes the pathway for stimulation that does not involve sexual organs at all. And sensation and other body parts make up for that. So, for instance, the brain will rewire itself so that allow a person who has paralysis below the neck achieve orgasm just through stimulation. That body parts such as the skin or the arm and the nipples. Number 11, orgasm might be nature's way of tricking us into reproducing, because orgasm is undoubtedly good time. But it also might be a way that mother nature's way of tricking us into reproducing, because it reward us for sex in a way, it reinforces the behavior and you keep coming back for more and more. Well, number 12, having an orgasm might actually help keep your brain healthy. Now that's pretty awesome, because along with enticing you to reproduce, orgasm may help your brain stay healthy. Because when you have an orgasm, you. You have increasing blood flow across the brain so dramatically, it actually keep your brain healthy. But not to forget that you also have increasing blood flow through your penis as well too, right? So it's really increasing blood flow everywhere, not only in your brain, but in your heart, the heart that goes to the organ, but also to your penis as well too. So there are 12 healthy reasons why orgasm is beneficial for your body and your mind. Not to say it's one of the most pleasurable experience of a humankind, but it's also beneficial in increasing blood flow, relaxation, not to mention in burning calories. Actually, having sex is considered moderate exercise activity. You're actually doing some exercises there as well too. And multiple studies have also shown that if you have sex about three times a week, it actually will help with prevention of dementia as well as prostate cancer, and also keeping you more in a state of happiness as well too. So aside from just good experience, it's also good for longevity as well too.
