Peyronie's Disease Causes Erectile Dysfunction
11 Nov 2025 · 0 min
Dr. Anne Truong explains how erectile dysfunction and Peyronie's disease feed each other: weak erections make the penis more likely to bend during sex, causing injury and scarring that curves the shaft. Early treatment with a vacuum pump or penile traction can increase blood flow and prevent scar tissue from forming.
Sex and Peyronie disease. What do they have in common? Stay tuned to find out.

What is the double whammy between ED and Peyronie's disease? Well, Peyronie's disease means that there is a curvature in the penis and it could be just a slight curvature or, or it could be a curvature up to even 90 degrees. And anything that is probably over 60 degrees is very bothersome for the female. The most important part is how much is it bothersome for the male. So Peyronie's disease 90% of the time happens because of penile fracture or bending of the penis due to trauma, most likely during intercourse. Oftentimes it's a bend that you don't notice at all. But over the years that area bend develops scar tissue or like an injury in the corpus cavernosum, which is the penile muscle. And then that develop a scar tissue and a scar tissue, when it develop, it restrict the penis from expanding and almost wherever the scar tissue is, the bending goes toward the scar tissue. So it's kind of like you put tape on a balloon, you try to blow the balloon, the balloon kind of bend towards where the tape is at. So having said that, what is ED erectile dysfunction have to do with Peyronie's ed? Well, when you have ed, that means that the penis muscle doesn't get as firm as it should be because it's not getting enough blood inflow. The corpus cavernosum is not expanding enough to compress the veins and therefore it's not as firm, but it could be penetrable. So even though it could not be not as firm 100% but it could penetrate. So having said that, if your penis is not as firm and there is penetration, there's more likelihood chance that there's going to be bending with penetration. And therefore it's easier to bend because it's not as firm. And when it's easier to bend, it easier for us to have injury. And then synthopenis doesn't have that much blood flow in it because due to ed, it's hard for it to heal and therefore the scar tissue develop and the scar tissue develop and get bigger over time because there's not enough blood flow to the penis to heal it. So it's a double whammy, meaning decreased blood flow leading to ed and then ED create a less firm erection, which then predispose you to trauma or bending of the penis during penetration, which then result in injury of the penis, which then result in scar tissue development would then result in Peyronie's or curvature of the penis. So the most common curvature of the penis is actually upward, upward like this. That's the most common I've seen curvature going to the left and also to the right. Now, if the curvature doesn't bother the man or his partner, it's not an issue, don't worry about it. But if it bother the man, it create discomfort for him and aesthetically bother him and or his partner, then he can do something about it. There are some treatment for pey, such as injection with a medication that will break up the scar tissue, followed by traction, followed by penis pumping. Now, having said that, I want to mention that using the penis pump can actually help reduce the curvature of the peyronie. So let's say you notice there was some trauma to the penis and you want to prevent the scar tissue development and you want to prevent Peyronie's. Well, you can use the penis pump that I talk about, like the penis pump I recommend is this one where you can actually exercise the penis, extend the penis to expand it so it can get more blood flow in it, more oxygen in it, and it also reduces the scar tissue. And because it's straight, it prevents the bending. So that can be something that you can do almost as preventative if you feel that there was some trauma, but it's also healing as well. And also the penis pump can also be used as a form of treatment in the beginning phase as well. So I wanted to kind of put that thought in your head that you're having ed, you know that you have a less firm erection and just be careful that you are more prone to trauma, to bending, and you want to be careful of that. If that does happen, then consider using traction device like attraction, the penile traction, and also the penis pump to prophylactically and preventively treated to prevent any type of curvature. So having said that, I hope you find this interesting and useful. I just thought it was a remarkable thing how those two tie together. And that's why we see ED oftentimes precede or come before Peyronie's disease and both of it usually occur together.
