Peyronie's Disease: Why It Bends & What Helps

In this 2026 YouTube presentation, Dr. Anne Truong, a board‑certified sexual‑health physician, educates men about Peyronie's disease—a common, non‑cancerous condition that causes penile curvature due to scar tissue (plaques) forming in the tunica albuginea. She describes penile anatomy, the prevalence (6‑13% of men, likely under‑reported), and three primary etiologies: acute trauma, repeated micro‑trauma, and untreated erectile dysfunction (ED) that leads to tissue atrophy. Genetic links (Dupuytren contracture) and age‑related hormonal changes are also discussed. The disease progresses through an acute, painful phase and a chronic, calcified phase lasting 12+ months. Dr. Truong explains the consequences of leaving the condition untreated—worsening curvature, increased pain, worsening ED, and psychological distress. She then focuses on a non‑surgical rehabilitation option: the vacuum erection (penis) pump. By applying negative pressure twice daily for ~10 minutes over six weeks, the pump stretches the corpora cavernosa and the scar tissue, promoting remodeling and reducing curvature, especially when the bend is under 25‑30°. She outlines the protocol, its limitations, and when surgical referral is warranted. The video also includes promotional references to specific pump vendors (ednomore.com, Bottomman Crib Store) and a paid “Get Wood Now Boost” program for broader ED treatment. The overall message is that early, consistent pump therapy can improve curvature and erectile function, and men are not alone in facing this condition.

If you notice that your erection has started to curve a little up, a little down, maybe to the side, and you don't know why, and if sexual activity is becoming a little difficult, maybe a little bit painful, or something you're starting to avoid because of it, and if you looked at it and maybe something's wrong but I don't know what to call it, this video is for you. What you are likely experiencing has a name. It's called Peyronie's disease. It is more common than almost any man realizes. It is not permanent, and it is not your fault sometimes. I'm Dr. Anne Truong MD. I'm a Sexual Health Board Certified Medical Doctor, and I've been treating men with ED for over 25 years. I've treated over 7,000 men with ED. So now I'm going to explain exactly what Peyronie's disease is, how it happened, why it lead to ED, and specifically how the penis pump, used correctly, can be of help for the curvature. So stay with me. This is the conversation most men never get to have, and they need to. So let me start with Peyronie's disease. What is it at the tissue level? So inside the penis, there is a layer. So think of the penis muscle. And you have two on both sides. That's the corpus cavernosum. A wrap around the corpus cavernosum is a layer called the tunica albuginea. And think of it as an outer sleeve of the penis muscle. Think of it like a sausage and you have the wrapping around the sausage. It's what contain the blood inside the muscle during an erection and it gives the penis the shape and the structure. So, in a healthy penis, the tunica albuginea is elastic. It stretches evenly on both sides as it fills with blood, and during an erection, it creates a straight, firm result. So Peyronie's disease happens when scar tissue develops inside the tunica albuginea. So think of it like a scar tissue that gets developed on that wrapping. And it developed the scar tissue, and then it's called a plaque. And scar tissue does not stretch. So when the rest of the tunica albuginea stretches during an erection, the side with the scar tissue or the plaque stays rigid. So that means that the penis bends towards the scar like a balloon that has the patch of tape on one side. The elastic side expands expands, the tape side doesn't, and the whole thing curves. Does that make sense? So how common is Peyronie's disease? So Peyronie's disease affects somewhere between 6 to 13% of men. Many researchers believe the actual number is probably higher because men are probably not talking about it or going to the doctor about it too much. It's such a personal problem. In my clinic, I see it constantly. Men will have this for years and quietly stop having sex and no one talk about it at all. And almost every single one of them said the same thing. When I finally name it, they thought, wow, I was the only one. Thank God it's not something weird. I don't have cancer. So you're not the only one. So what's happening in your body has an explanation and a treatment pathway. And it has an explanation and a treatment path. Men always ask me, Dr. Anne, how did this happen? The honest answer is, is one of three ways. One, acute trauma. It's a sudden injury to an erect penis during sexual activity, or maybe even a fall, or maybe in an accident that causes like little tears in the tunica albuginea. So the body responds to this tear like as with any wound, it starts to put scar tissue into it. And because of that, it forms a rigid, inflexible scar. Number 2, repeated microtrauma. Many men with Peyronie's disease cannot identify a single injury. That's because the plaque can form years before the injury. Maybe a little aggressive sex, and most of the time this happen in a cowboy position where the woman's on top, or bending during an erection, or repeated friction, each one creating a tiny inflammatory response that makes the body deposit more scar tissue over time. Number 3, this is something you may not know, the connection that nobody talk about, and it's critically important. When a man has untreated ED, the penis muscle is not receiving regular blood flow. So without blood flow, The corpus cavernosum, or the penis muscle, along the side, it begin to atrophy, or shrink, and stiffen. So as the tissue become less elastic, scar tissue to start to form within it. This is why ED and Peyronie's are often found together. ED doesn't just coexist with Peyronie's. In many cases, untreated ED is what create the condition for Peyronie's to develop. There's also a genetic component. So men with a condition called Dupuytren contracture, where you have scar tissue that happened on the fourth finger here, like a big scar tissue that make your finger bend like this, that's called Dupuytren. Well, if you have Dupuytren, you're more at risk to getting Peyronie's as well too. And age plays a big role. Testosterone decline reduces the elasticity of the corpus cavernosum. And lower estrogen in men often coincide with lower testosterone, also affect the collagen quality. So the tunica albuginea, or the wrapping, becomes less forgiving, so more susceptible to scarring with each passing decade, particularly after the age of 40. So the scar forms in two phases. The first phase is acute phase where is forming, it's hot, it's tender, it's inflamed. This is when you have pain with it, of course. Phase 2 is more chronic. This is like 12 months plus, right? Where inflammation has resolved, the plaque now become calcified, how Anne is stabilized, and the curve is fixed. So this does not mean it's untreatable. It just means that the curve is fixed at this point. Where can you get the penis pump? You can get the penis pump at ednomore.com or check the link down below this video to get the penis pump so you can start exercising your penis again. Remember, you are only one pump away. So what does it mean if Peyronie's left untreated? Well, the plaque becomes calcified and hardened and becomes effectively permanent if you don't have a clinical intervention. So the curvature can worsen over months or over years, making penetration very, very difficult. And pain sometimes during erection, which sometimes are more common in the acute phase. And ED worsens alongside with Peyronie's because the scar tissue restricts blood flow to the corpus cavernosum or the penis muscle. And then there's the psychological impact, right? The shame, the avoidance, embarrassment, and then the depression. And men who wait often find their options have narrowed and that your only option is really surgery. So you have two choices. You can have the injection where they dissolve the collagen or surgery. But let's talk about something that you can do without the injection that if you're starting to notice maybe a little curvature that you can do on your own, and that's called the penis pump, the vacuum erection pump. The vacuum erection pump or penis pump used as a medical rehab device, not a sex toy, is one of the most accessible and consistently supported tools for managing Peyronie's disease. But it's good when you start early. You don't want to wait until years of having curvature and trying to use the penis pump because anything over 25 degrees, it's going to be very hard to use the penis pump for. Let me explain why it works at the tissue level. Remember when I said the plaque developed because of the micro tears causing the curvature? The collagen has one vulnerability. It responds to sustained, gentle mechanical tension. Think of it like a leather shoe. Stiff when it comes out of the box, but if you wear it every day, it becomes flexible. You stretch it, it softens, it conforms, it becomes more pliable. This is what consistent pumping does. Does to the penile plaque. Every time you use the pump, you create a negative pressure that draws blood into the penile tissue and it stretches the corpus cavernosum, including the area where the scar tissue was formed. This daily stretch puts gentle, sustained traction on the plaque, and over weeks and months, this mechanical traction signals to the scar tissue to soften and to remodel. And become less organized, less restricted. The result, the pull towards the scar tissue during erection lessen, the curve begin to strengthen. So you want to use the pump like I discussed before, and check out the video here on how to use the pump. But essentially, the pump just create negative pressure that stretches the penis tissue and brings in oxygen and bring in blood flow. And it soften up the scar. So how often should you use this? You should do this twice a day. Use the penis pump and leave the erect penis in there for about 10 minutes. And you should do it every day consistently for 6 weeks and you will see the curvature improving. You will see more firmness as well too. But I wanna be clear about something though. So the pump is not an overnight fix. Scar tissue does not dissolve in a week, but it does remodel with consistent work. All right. But if your curvature is more than 30 degrees, you probably need to go to a urologist and maybe consider having surgery. Pump should be less than probably 25 degrees at this time. The main thing, guys, is that you start to see some curvature, even just a little bit, use the pump. Use it consistently, you may even reverse it. You don't want it to get worse and worse. So it's not magic. This is the biology responding to the right input. Just think of it like that. I want you to know that if you are having a more severe curvature, that's more than 30, then you probably need to look at getting surgically corrected. But there is an option if you're less than that, if you're starting to see some curvature or anything, you start early, you're going to get more result with. So just know that you can reverse it and that you can even like bring in more blood flow to it. And if you have an ED, this will also help with the erection. So the bottom line is the penis pump is a medical device. It's FDA approved for rehabilitation of the penis. And sometimes when you can even combine this with a traction device as well too. So you can use the traction device for about 30 minutes along with the penis pump as well. You can get the penis pump at Bottomman Crib Store at ednomore.com.
