POST-COVID RECOVERY

Dr. Preeti Nanda Sidwal describes post-COVID syndrome: fatigue, brain fog, and shortness of breath. She recommends infrared sauna therapy at 130-140°F for 30 minutes followed by a cold shower, claiming it boosts immunity and accelerates recovery better than conventional saunas.

Hi, I am Dr. Preeti Nanda Sidwal, an MBBS from Amritsar Medical College and a fellowship holder in functional medicine from American Academy of Anti-Aging and Regenerative Medicine, US. And today I'm going to talk about a new trend which is really catching up for post-COVID recovery. We all know that despite getting healed from COVID lot of our patients are coming back with symptoms. The 3 most common symptoms which we are seeing today are fatigue, and this is not normal fatigue. Patients come and say that if they walk about 3-4 steps, they feel so tired that they have to come back and sleep. Even if they go for a walk on 5 minutes very slowly, they feel tired and they want to come back and just rest. Brain fog. Psychological, emotional havoc is being created, and brain fog is not something which people are imagining. It is the real stuff which is happening. And this is not all. The third very common symptom which people are facing is shortness of breath and cough. Now all this can lead to complications later on. So what is it that we have to do? Yes, Delhi government has opened up a clinic in Rajiv Gandhi Hospital for post-COVID patients, but that's not enough. Let's talk about this new trend, which is infrared saunas. We all know heat has always been a savior for us. We've been using heat in different forms like baths, like saunas, like steam inhalation. To recover from infections, bacterial, viral infections. We all know that virus, even COVID virus, gets killed when there is excessive heat. And that is where infrared saunas are the new trend, which are helping people recover faster from their post-COVID symptoms. Now, what does this infrared sauna do? It actually gives you all 3 infrared rays. That's the near ray, which helps in wound healing and building immunity. Mid-infrared, which promotes muscle relaxation, which helps you with your pains, aches in post-COVID. And far infrared, which actually goes deep, almost 3 7 meters deep, and it actually takes out the toxins from your body, helps you detoxify, improves your metabolism, improves your cardiovascular functioning, helps in managing your lifestyle diseases better. So what is it here that is different from other saunas? In infrared sauna, we do not reach the temperature of 170. The temperature stays from 130 to 140, but the difference is that In normal saunas, what happens is there are stones and fire which increases the temperature. But in infrared sauna, these infrared rays go inside your body and increase the temperature, whereas the outside temperature is still not that hot. And therefore, even at lesser temperature, you get better benefits. To top it up for COVID patients, if 30 minutes of sauna, which is the protocol being suggested now, is followed by a cool shower of 30 seconds to 1 minute, it can actually increase the activity of your immune system. And you know what? Heat in our bones and in our body, there are these WBC cells which are ready to, you know, work in our immune system and tackle these infections. And what the sauna does is actually brings them out, makes them active, and improves our immune system. To know more, just click on the link here and I will be sharing more information with you. Stay safe, stay healthy, and let's fight Corona the right way so that it cannot leave any impact in our lives later.
