Welcome, Dr.
Thank you. Thank you, Umaji and the group, for having me here today. Welcome. Yeah, and yesterday night I asked, uh, in that, what's the duration? He said 15 minutes, but I still couldn't recollect 15 minutes is the TED Talk. So thanks for telling me that. The topic which I've chosen for today is Young Till 100: Revolution Against aging. Yeah, so before I start, let me ask, please, with the show of your hands, tell me how many of you would like to be 100? How many of you will like to be 100 if you can be as active or more active than what you are today? Wow, big clap for all of you! And that is what I'm going to talk to you about. It's very strange, and when we look at the data, that in the last 3 decades and in the last 100 years, the age span of human beings have increased dramatically. If you look at 100 years back, the average age span was about 47, and now it's about 85. That's a huge change. And the interesting thing is that now scientists have started believing two things. One, human beings shouldn't age. There is no reason why we should age. And the second thing scientists have started believing is aging is a disease and we can make a pill to help all of us not to age. How is it? Awesome. Awesome. Awesome. Great. I— before I move forward, I want to share a small story, my experience with you, which I think somewhere carved the way for me to come into the space. I have two sons and they feel that I'm a man. They feel I'll always be there with them. And when the younger one was young, he asked me, Mom, aap toh kahin hi jaane baliye ho na? You are always going to be there. And I'm sure most of you have heard that statement, right, from your loved ones. And I started thinking, what do I tell this little 5-year-old kid that I don't know for how long I'm here. There is no mathematical formula which has been created to tell me what is gonna be my age. And I had no heart to tell him then that I don't know, son, but I will make you competent enough that you will fare well in life with me or without me. But that was difficult. And then My grandparents, you know, they were no more. And I think all of us have gone through that. It's very tragic, yeah, when you lose your loved ones. Very, very tragic when you lose a young one. One of my classmates died very recently, and I, I can't tell you, it really shakes you from within. And you want to know, what is this teaching about? But last but not the least, just 3 months back when I started talking about this topic, Mountain 100, my favorite maasi, my mother's sister, expired of cancer. I couldn't get out of that. And what I kept thinking again and again was, cancer is an aging process. It's nothing more than aging, right? So what is it that I can do, learn, study so that that thing can be avoided? And interestingly, when I went into research, I realized that what has been happening in healthcare till now is our lifespans have increased. Yes or no? Yes. Yes, all of us have seen that. The quality of life is decreasing. A recent study was done in US which showed that the amount of money we are spending on healthcare in the last 25% of our life is so much that even the economies are finding it difficult to manage. Yes or no? Yes. US healthcare expenditure is a big, big, big problem for them right now. There was a time when I used to think we can learn healthcare from Americans, but today I very confidently say no. We have to make our own path depending on our people, our genetics, our emotional being. We cannot follow anybody because everybody is failing when there is patients. And the simple reason is we are not considering aging as a disease. Disease. What we are thinking is that aging is a process. For some it happens faster and for some slower, right? But that's not the case. And just because of this thought process, what we have done is we've worked on a lot on the heart health. Yes or no? Every time we talk, we talk about heart. Yeah, all of us know about heart attack. All of us know what to do. To do when something like that happens, right? But have we ever noticed that our hearts are allowing us to live longer, but we have now started suffering from brain diseases? Yeah, and this is because we are focusing on that part which we think is important, but we are not focusing on the whole body. And that can only happen when we start thinking of aging as a process which human beings were not made to go through. And why do I say that? Do you think some science is supporting that? Must be, must be, yes. Who can tell me what is the age of a whale? All of us know the whale fish. How many years does a whale live? 200 years. Yes, who said 200? Please stand up and big clap for them. So whale lives for 200 years and it has been seen that most of the genes in the way we live are similar to what whale has. It's just that we are in the land and whale is in the water. Ocean water, right? And that get— made the scientists think. And interestingly, what they have found is there are certain genes. So there's a layer above genetic makeup which is called epigenetics. Do you understand what epigenetics is? Perfect. So epigenetics says how your genes get affected by the environment, and that is the reason we keep evolving. And that is the reason science says that we transfer genes. And it's not that you are going to transfer to your kid. Your parents' genes are going to get transferred. It's the 3-generation connection already there, proven by science. And this is changing hugely. Why are a lot of us vitamin D deficient? A lot of us, right? Our genes Genes are not making it anymore. They have changed. Why a lot of us do need vitamin C? Genes are not making it in the body. Otherwise our bodies never needed this. Our fat was made to make all this. I'm sure most of you know that we are getting deficient in zinc and magnesium these days, right? And zinc, magnesium are the— Minerals which help in the nutrient sensing of the genes and the immune system, right? And that is the reason our immune system is getting compromised and lot of autoimmune diseases are emerging. Yes or no? Yes. I— when I was practicing, I had never seen this much of diabetes, which is autoimmune disease. I had never seen Hashimoto's thyroiditis. To this extent. I had never seen lupus, I had never seen RA to this extent. What is happening? Epigenetics is changing and that is resulting in all this. And that is how aging also happens. So what happens in aging is, when we are young, you know, there are certain genes which are active and there are certain genes which are not active. So when these genes are not active, what happens? No aging happens. But when, because of some trigger, because of some toxin, because of stress, which is playing a huge role today, because of hormone imbalance, because of the type of food we eat, because of the way we exercise, because of the amount we Sleep and many more such factors, these genes get triggered. So what happens? They are sleeping, they become from red to green and start activating. Once they start activating, aging starts to happen. And it has been seen by scientists that in mice, they actually could prove it, that once they give certain things, some toxins and all, the aging speed they give them some supplement and the aging starts reversing. It's a phenomenon, right? It makes you feel so powerful. Finally, you know, we are getting where we should be. And now what do we need to do to stop these genes so that they don't get activated? And if they got activated, is it something Is there something that we can do to again stop them? Yes, it has been found that there are 7— how many? 7 sirtuins, which are the genes which play a major role here. And we can do 4 things to again take them into silence. And do you want to know what those 4 things are? Yes. Sure? Yes. Perfect. So you will repeat them with me when I say, tell them to you. First, exercise. Exercise. And the new rule of exercising is you don't have to take out 30-40 minutes in one go. Take out 10 minutes every few hours for yourself, minimum 3 times a day. That is the new rule, and that is amazing. And if you can do exercise just before your meal or 1 hour after our meals, you open your GLUT receptors which help in using glucose properly. You will not feel fatigue, you will not have abdominal obesity, and you will be very, very active and relaxed. Perfect. What's the second one? Staying hungry for some time. Always. Yeah? Always. Not always, for some time. And how does hunger differ from, you know, those pain which you have or starvation? Is your body needs to work on your internal healing. When we keep eating, body's whole blood supply, energy, focus comes there stomach for the digestion. Body is not able to heal. Liver needs time to heal. Anybody who can tell me liver? Jigger, right? And unfortunately, despite being a doctor, anti-aging practice, preventive medicine, I always used to think jigger is there. And I am sure a lot of us think that way still, because jagla— jiggler means most precious, and we all think this is the most precious thing. But remember, liver is the second hardest working organ in your body after your heart. If your liver is not working right, you are not able to detoxify, your hormones going to imbalance, and you get diseases. If you have been diagnosed with grade 1 fatty liver, if you do not work on it, diabetes is coming. Just a matter of 3 to 5 years. When you become diabetic, don't think, 'What has happened? I am diabetic.' You got that alarm bell 5 years back. And if you are a diabetic, aging process has speedened up. Remember, cancer is not far. 95% and more cases of cancer have been found to be linked with insulin resistance or diabetes. 15-20 years back. So this is all aging. Diseases are just the way you say she is Uma, he is Mr. Mahesh, he is Anand, he is Manish. But we all are human beings. But we all are human beings, right? And that's the same is about diseases. Your body is saying body is aging. So second is give body the time to heal. Fasting once a week, amazing. Going on a water fast twice a month, too good if you can do it. If nothing else, start with 14 to 16 hours 16 hours fast at least 2 days a week. And during this fasting period, you can have lemon water, you can have clear soups, you can have dhaniya pudina pani or any alkaline drinks or green tea. Yeah, but it is very, very important. Third, supplements. Great. Supplements. So it has been found that certain supplements play a huge role in anti-aging, and two of the ones which I use in my practice and I've seen amazing results are resveratrol. And to get resveratrol, which you get from wine, you will have to drink 100 glasses of wine every day. How good is that? Nothing less than 100 glasses is going to give you the dose which I want you to have, but That's it. And the second is NAD+. NAD+. So those have been found to be really effective as anti-aging agents, and they really help reverse your aging. Perfect. And now comes the last thing what you need to do for anti-aging. Any guesses? Sleep. Yes! Wow, a big clap for Alan. Great. Your beauty sleep of 7 to 8 hours is extremely important. People come to me and say 4 hours is good. Yes, it is good if you are a Maharshi, if you have that type of control over your sleep that you can directly go into deep sleep and have that undisturbed sleep there, right? But otherwise, 7 to 8 hours good sleep, very, very, very important. Remember, if you keep the accelerator on the cars foot on the car's accelerator all the time you're sitting in the car, your car is going to be a waste. Human body is the most phenomenal machine that has ever been created and could be created. It supports you till you misuse it so much that it says, I am not there. I am not saying anti-aging is about living long, but I am saying anti-aging is about living with energy, vitality, passion, and mental agility till the time we are alive. Thank you.
