BrainTap Technology: Rewiring Your Brain for Better Sleep and Stress Resilience | Dr. Patrick Porter

Dr. Patrick Porter discusses BrainTap, a headset using light, sound, and vibration to entrain brainwaves and improve sleep and stress resilience. The technology addresses modern stressors he calls the four T's: thoughts, traumas, toxins, and technology. Porter's 30-day Brain Fitness Blueprint aims to build daily brain-health rituals and break the cycle of quitting.

The world right now, our brain that we have, that we possess, you and I was not designed for the world we live in. You know, when we think about our lives today, and even our grandparents lives, I mean, when I was going to school, there was no crts, there was no screens. I mean, and then they came out, those big giant screens, they come up now we have LED screens now we can paint the walls with LEDs. I mean, we have raced so fast with technology that we have a technology problem out there. There's four reasons people have problems with any biological system in the body. Thoughts, traumas, toxins, and technology. There's four T's now, not three. And so I thought we need a scalable solution that can be taken across the world and help people in their own homes. I always tell people, you don't need a breakdown to have a breakthrough.
All right, Dr. Porter, I'd love to hear your origin story. What were you trying to solve when you came up with Braintap, you know, and its applicability to like stress and sleep and performance. How did you get here?
Well, Braintap was kind of a grandchild because I started in 1986. So when you, when you think about what was happening then we, we started, we had the very first personal light and sound machine that was actually designed for pain clinics because pain only happens in the brain. And then we started to figure out, hey, when the brain gets regulated, we can do all these other things. And I sold that company in 2002, stayed on for four years, and then not really retired, but did my thing. And then that company went under because they had different principles. My theory is always help people make money. Theirs was make money. We don't care if we help people, you know, so, you know, you, you gotta, I, I believe you have to serve people too. And then you get rewarded. You know, it's kind of the way the, the world keeps score. And then in, in 2012, I was with my wife and we're sitting there thinking, and I go, what am I going to do? You know, I'm out speaking and teaching. I thought I need a, I need a new updated. Was called the MC Square then. So. Because I really like Einstein. My first book was Awaken the Genius. So when we think about it, I thought, wow, what if we could take these components? Because it looked like an old stereo system, if you think about it, and they were all hooked together and then you put these headphones on, you put these eyeglasses on and it was a lot of wires and people were really Complaining and we built the headset. And then I started going out. I was fortunate enough to meet up with Fab Mancini, who was the president of Parker College there in Dallas. And he said, hey, why don't we help chiropractors include this into their practice? Because chiropractors are really neurological doctors. And they, they really, most of them under underperform because they think they're just back crackers, you know, but there's, there's a lot more to the nervous system than aligning the spine. I mean, it's a very important piece, but it's not the piece, you know, And I don't know if there is one piece that's important. But then I just, I thought, wow, the world right now, our brain that we have, that we possess, you and I, was not designed for the world we live in. You know, when we think about our lives today, and even our grandparents lives, I mean, when I was going to school, there was no crts, there was no screens. I mean we, and then they came out, those big giant screens, they come up now we have LED screens, now we can paint the walls with LEDs. I mean, we have raced so fast with technology that we have a technology problem out there. There's four reasons people have problems with any biological system in the body. Thoughts, traumas, toxins, and then technology. There's four T's now, not three. And so I thought we need a scalable solution that can be taken across the world and help people in their own homes. And of course we have 3,000 practitioners using them. So you know, the practitioners see the people that are in need right now. But I always tell people, you don't need a breakdown to have a breakthrough, so let's have that breakthrough today. And so I started to get out there in the community and just started sharing. And what I found was most practitioners, unfortunately, they look at everything but the mind. They think just doing affirmations, which I think are great. Hay House is my, my publisher. You know, Louise Hay did a great job bringing affirmations to the world. And I think that. But I think affirmations also fall short because they need to be updated. So when I took my training with, with Richard banner in the 80s and John Grinder, the NLP people, I've figured out how the brain operates almost like a computer. So I sometimes jokingly, tongue in cheek, say I'm a software engineer for the human mind. If your best thinking isn't getting you what you want, I help fix that. And so that's the problem really. That I'm fixing what you have today, the world. Think of your body in your brain as the interface to a virtual reality machine. Just. Just for lack of a better word. And that what we think, how we act, how we express it all shows up in the field. And that field, and we'll get deeper into that as we go. But that field, you know, most people, I'll just give this one example, and then we'll move on. But imagine that you're a fish tank, okay, Just as a metaphor. And you have all these fish swimming around in there. And one fish is called the heart. One fish is called menopause. One fish is called stress. One fish. And so you take that fish out and you deal with that. F you get it back to health, it's doing really well. But you put it right back into that dirty fish tank. We need to clean the fish tank because that fish is going to become ill again. So there needs to be a structure. And I think now with energy, frequency and vibration and all the science that's coming out. Our lab in Scottsdale actually started it all in 1986. No one was doing it. I mean, Jeffrey Thompson out of San Diego was doing some. He was a consultant with us on the project. And we started to figure out, hey, we can use our environment. Now, MIT actually not even a year ago showed that we actually respond to our environment. We have mirror neurons in our every cell. So our environment is actually producing the genetic expression more than our thoughts are. Our conscious mind actually is very little to do with it. In like Bruce Lipton says, 95% of all behaviors, all activities are controlled by the subconscious. I like to call it the other than conscious mind. Because we're not sub anything, we're superhuman, but we just don't know how to activate it. So I wanted to have a way to easily activate the human potential. And one thing I learned by going to India for the last 40 years is that the human body is designed to heal. The brain is designed to heal. You're designed to evolve. There's no if you're going through something right now, I'm sorry, but that is the dark night of the soul. There's no superhero that didn't have to go through that dark night of the soul. But when you get to the other side of it, you get a superpower. So what is your superpower? That's what you're here to express. And I'm hoping that I can just be one little trigger that will help activate that next genius, that next Power Woman, whatever it Is that will transform the world because nobody gets out of here alive.
No, that's true.
Yeah.
There's a, there is no, there's no exit ramp to the end of the third. There's no, hey, I get to bypass this, this highway at some point. You're absolutely right. So let's talk about the, the brain tap particularly, and how that technology works to actually sort of retrain your brain. You know, I, you brought up affirmations. And it's very funny because I, I believe in affirmations. I, and, and I find a lot of times use affirmations, but a lot of times to the brain, I think they are. Often I'm going to say something very crass just because my sense of humor can be. Is that a lot of times it's like putting icing on a turd. Like, the brain's like, that's crap no matter how much you wrap that right.
Exactly. That's what I'm saying. So what, what we showed in nlp, I didn't create this. I just was trained in it. Is the brain doesn't respond by statements of fact that are false. Because you have this, you have this whole system of beliefs. And just for the listeners, I don't want you to believe anything that I say. You can take those on Sunday morning. This is science we're going to talk about. It's not beliefs. So this is science. What we know happens when you, when you express an affirmation, but internally, emotionally, you think it's a turd, then you're not conjuring to create the turd. So what we have to do is ask questions like, instead of what would life be like if all menopause symptoms were just extinguished, they were no longer present, how would your body feel? How would you look? How would you respond? How would you treat your significant other? How would you express in exercise? How would you express in health? You start asking those questions. Now. The brain has something to work on because it's a goal striving system. It needs an outcome and it needs a pathway to get there. And so affirmations are a great starting point. But you can't, like today, I can't stand here and say, I'm Michael Jordan in basketball. You know, I don't care how much. Many times I'm 64 years old, I'm in pretty good shape, but there's no way I'm going to be Michael Jordan. So you have to look at where's the fish pond? Where's the pond you're playing in? Right now or are you playing in the ocean? You know, you know the old saying, are you a big fish in the pond? Are you a small fish in the ocean? You know, you've got to choose where you're playing. And then you have to figure out what skill set do I need to get me to the next level. And you have to also remember there's no there, there's no graduation, there's no cheerleaders, there's no, there's no awards being. You might get awards on the way. But the reality is that just like the game of golf, you could always improve. You know, there's, there's something always happening. So I like to tell people it's not what you do daily, you know, it's, it's. I mean, it's not what you do occasionally, it's what you do daily. So these rituals that we do every day, like even putting on your makeup or drinking your coffee or doing, eating breakfast or driving to work, these are all rituals because when you, when they get out of the norm, you start getting agitated. This is because of the brain. It's called neuroplasticity. But what happens is, as we age, unfortunately, our brain voltage goes down. So imagine this. When you were born, you had the most powerful brain possible. It was 100 billion neural bit processor fully wired and this. And it was actually operating at 18.1 volts. You could learn languages, you could interpret signs. You knew who your mother was, you knew, you knew what to do. You couldn't move your body as well, but you, you had this intuitive knowledge. And then as we age, that voltage goes down at about, I know, 16, 17 years old, it'll start regulating around 10.1 volts. And now we start to get resistance because it's. Life is an energy equation. And the energy starts in the brain, moves down the spine, the keyboard to the brain, out to the limbs. And it's. So if you don't have energy in the brain, you can't do anything because the muscles don't move without the brain telling them, instructing them. The ligaments don't move, the bones don't move. Nothing happens until the brain says it's time to do it. And that's why I think it's so important that the most forgotten thing out there in the missing link really is the mind. And we call it the mind is the software, the brain is the hardware. But don't confuse yourself with the body. This body is not you. You have to take care of this body, just like you. But most people Treat their body like it's a Yugo when they have a Maserati, you know. So we need to put the best fuel in the Maserati. We need to keep it clean. You know, we need to drive it safely. We can go fast. We want to go fast. We can stop on a dime, you know, whatever. And that's our nervous system. When it's time to be stressed, okay, be stressed, but then get over it. When it's time to be angry and upset, okay, get angry and upset, but get over it. Get back to balance. And that's the parasympathetic system. So when you think about Brain Tap, we were looking at ways how can we flip the switch on the nervous system. Because what happens is people get locked into what I call sympathetic syndrome. That is the fight or flight. So they basically wake up in the morning catastrophizing, fearing everything. They dread it. And as an example, another little metaphor for you. Imagine I'm Superman. I'm coming to meet you, and you're Lex Luthor. And you're the evil person trying to take me down, right? And I. I take out kryptonite. I put it in front of you and I say, lex, this is kryptonite. This is what disempowers me. This is. If you get this near me, I become as weak as a human. No, Superman doesn't do that, does he? He puts it in a vault, hides it away, never tells anybody about it. But people will tell people about. Oh, I'm going through these menopause symptoms. I'm going through. I don't sleep well last night. I have this aches in my knees, my shoulders. I have headaches all day long. I'm sorry, but nobody really wants to hear that. You want to be a superhero. You know, you can talk to. You want to find a person you can express those things to. But your message to the world should be, I'm here to support. I'm here of service to. To you and my community. Because we only. We only rise together. We don't rise separately. You know, if you get too far above the crowd, your friends won't like you. They'll start nitpicking you. You know, we love to tear down our heroes. So you have a tribe, whoever that is, and you're resonating with that tribe. And with Braintap, we. We want to say that the brain is a tribe because there's five primary brainwaves that we operate in. And each of those brain waves, think of them as WI FI networks. Okay, so if you don't have enough alpha, which is intuitive mind, you can't speak. So the fear of public speaking, because when somebody has fear, we know the alpha brainwave collapses, Beta brainwave, which is a reactionary mind, increases. And now you don't remember what you knew last night in front of the mirror when you did this presentation a hundred times and knew it was great. But because that fear, I mean, if Bill Gates can't plug in a USB plug and gets frustrated under stress, and he invented it, you know, what is, what is us mere mortals going to do? So, and also within, within the game of life that we play, most people don't realize it is a game. And they joined a race. It's called the human race. But imagine this, you get up in the morning, you're standing at the hundred yard line, you're looking down the track and you go, what the hell? I didn't want to run this race. What do you mean 100 yard dash? I didn't train for this, right? How many times have you heard that? I didn't train for this. I never knew this was going to happen. Well, Deepak Chopra says 97% of what we know about today, we knew yesterday. So only 3% is going to be different. So are you planning, are you programming? Are you producing the results you want? We call this brain priming. So with brain tap, we use light, sound and vibration, which I can break down deeper if you want. And these, what happens is these frequencies create the field. And again, I don't want people to believe me. It's a science. If they go to NIH's website, type in Biofield, you're going to see in 1994, our National Institute of Health, the same group that's trying to kill us actually has on their website that every human being has a biofield. It extends three feet around them. We know it extends farther than that. The heart's magnetic fields extends 16ft, but they said 3ft around you. And all illness starts in that field. So those menopause symptoms didn't start with a biological problem. It started with a thought problem. And the thought problem is that we believe that we're supposed to get old, we're supposed to be decrepit, we're supposed to have all these symptoms. Mom had them, grandma had them. And you know the, when we look at ancient sciences and things like India and our, even our Indians here in America, they say the Hopi Indians said that seven generations influence our behaviors. Well, MIT showed that seven generations of our genetic memory are actually influencing us right now. And they did a study to prove it with ducks. If you believe that what they did was they took a duck egg and they put it under a chicken. And they said all of our genetics are triggered by our environment, by our ancestry, by our current life experience, by mom, dad, brothers, sisters, preachers, teachers, all these people. But what they found was when that duck egg hatched, it didn't stay with the chicken. It actually went out and found water and started becoming a duck. You know, because it's a duck, because it had the ancestral memory of a duck. So when you were born, you weren't a blank slate like somebody told you. You had cues, genetic cues from mom and dad at the moment of inception, in their mom and dad at the moment of inception, and their mom and dad all the way back. And I believe they'll eventually find all the way back to the beginning of time. That's why we don't have the brain for this. This experience we have. Because if you look at the timeline of life on Earth, we've only had technology a very short time. You know, and so if you're struggling with technology, so be it, because our brains weren't designed for it. The technology's in you, but now we're seeing the technology that's inside of us is outside of us. You know, like. Like talking right now. We're speaking through. I'm not. You're not really hearing my voice. You're hearing a mechanical simulation of my voice, and then you're translating it into what it sounds like, and it's all happening inside your head. I mean, we can get quantum physics on it a little bit. You know, this is not really happening because 99.9% of all physical matter is space.
Right?
Information. So what we wanted to do with Brain Tap was how can we use proven science that alters the frequency of the brain, these brain frequencies? Because in nature, if. If you and I were back 2000 years ago and we were in a tribe together, we'd get up in the morning with the light of the sun, we wouldn't rush to get our cup of coffee. And I can talk about that a little bit later. That's the worst thing you can do for your biological system, is drink coffee first thing in the morning. You should have two glasses of water with salt or minerals in them to get your brain. Your brain shrunk three quarters of an inch when you slept. So your brain, basically like a sponge, was squeezing out all the toxins. And if you don't, if you're not sleeping well. Two thirds of the world isn't sleeping. If you're not sleeping well, think of sleep. I'm doing a program now with Dr. Amen. Sleep Dr. Dr. Credo. And we call it Sleep Like a Champion. Because if you don't. If you don't sleep well, you won't be well, you know, so sleeping is when you incubate those superpowers. It's when your brain, it basically compartmentalizes, organizes your day, daily life, and says, hey, this is meaningful. This is not. And that's why we don't remember everything. I mean, if I ask you, what were you doing a year ago at this moment in time, unless it was something really significant, you don't remember it because there's too much. But that information is stored, categorized, and organized in your brain. In neuroscience, we could touch a different part of the brain, and you could have an experience of having dinner with somebody you only had one time and never thought of them again. But it could be triggered through an electrical impulse. This is neuroplasticity. And what we call. There's. What's happening to us as we age, unfortunately, is called neural pruning. Because as we age, the brain says, hey, we don't need all. We don't need to use all this energy. The. The brain uses 20 to 25% of all the energy resources of the body. So it's going to say, oh, we don't need that in. We don't need to remember that, because that takes energy to do that. So it. It basically unwires. And Hebb's law says, those neurons that wire together fire together. So what we want to do is daily start looking at, how do we rewire our brain for today? Because today is different. And I like to tell people, you know, one of the biggest fears, of course, is death. People, it's going to happen to everybody, but people are afraid of it. But the reality is that we've all died thousands of times. The person sitting here, Dr. Betty, you have died since we started because 50 million cells per second are changing. You are a new person. And if today, during this podcast, we can get one new thought in the mind of the listener, neuroscience says we can rewire the whole brain around that one new thought so you don't have to think about, wow, how am I going to change my life in massive ways? Just think about, what is the micro ritual that I can change my life with? Maybe it's getting up in the morning and drinking a couple tall glasses of water with salt in it real salt though, Celtic salt or something like that. And then do some exercise. Get the sugar out of this muscles so that the new sugar that your body makes by eating healthy foods is able to replace it. Now the cells can communicate and they can heal because remember, the brain and the body are designed to heal. Let the body do what the body's designed to do. Don't get in the way. Getting in the way is getting up, having a coffee in a Danish and then complaining that you have a, you have a down time in the afternoon. And we'll explain that later maybe, but they're, these are their biological cycles. And cycles are not just for women. Cycles are for every biological thing. You know, everything has a cycle to it. And so there's going to be ebbs and flows, like I said, there's going to be good times, there's going to be bad times and we have to go with the flow. It's like ocean waves. Sometimes we're at the crest, sometimes, you know, we're getting splashed on, you know, so the. With Brain Tap, using technology, we're able to mimic. When I was in India, it was so funny. This was years ago with Dr. Barun, with Ames Bhopal. I brought somebody up on stage, they had never meditated because I asked for somebody who had never meditated. I put the, the, the QEG system on their head. I had them do Brain Tap and their brain mimicked the brain of the guru that we had just did. And I said, and I said, it doesn't take 30 years on a mountaintop to get that brain frequency. Now, I'm not sure that you went to the same place that guru went, you know, wherever. It'd be like if you and I went to Hawaii. And I'm not a tour guide in Hawaii. I couldn't take you to the same beautiful places and all those things. But I'm in the same frequency, right? And think of frequency as what you frequently see. Yeah. So when you, when you think about this. So Veron goes, you're cheating. I said, I'm cheating? I said, gurus cheat. He goes, what do you mean? I said, well, don't they go into the mountains and meditate? I mean, how easy would it be? You don't have any bills, no children, no car payment, no job to go to. All you have to do is figure out how to feed yourself and sleep. That's cheating. I said, have you ever meditated to a candle varun? Oh, yeah, all the time. That's cheating. Candles are technology. Fire. And did you Know that fires crackle at 10 Hz frequency. So again, going back to our ancient tribal time, if we were together, at the end of the day, whether you were hunting or gathering, you'd meet at the tribal fire, and that fire would be burning. That fire is doing something that biohackers do today that they, they think is.
They found out red light.
You know, they've been doing this for forever, since the dawn of history, since fire was created. That fire is admitting 8, 10 nanometer light to 850 nanometer light. This is healing light. It has a beat frequency of 10 hertz. It regulates you to alpha. It induces neurotransmitter activity, which means it. You instruct your gut, which I call the first brain. Because if you had a. If you had a neck injury and you can't walk, your body still metabolizes, digests foods, does all those things. It's not the brain in your head. The brain in your head that, where most people talk about the brain, that's simply a transmitter and receiver of information. You know, the. The body's brain is the gut brain. And if you don't clean that gut brain up, there's going to be confusion and, and things like that. So. And then there's the heart brain, this coherence. That's why right now, in science, the one of the gold standards for health, there is heart rate variability. How do people regulate communication? Because the heart communicates twice as much to the body as the body does to the heart. So if you're not coherent, meaning that you're together and what I mean by coherent for the listeners, when we're done with this podcast, jump over to YouTube and put in synchronizing metronomes in. What you'll see is there's a guy there that starts 200 metronomes, all at different times. Within three minutes, all those metronomes are synced up, and then about three to four minutes later, they go out of sync, and then they go back in sync. They go out of sync, they go back in sync. And science still does not know why that happens. But think of your brainwaves the same way. We start introducing through brainwave entrainment, a certain beat frequency. We create a field of information the brain has to adapt to, because the brain loves patterns. So the light patterns, the sound patterns, and then we introduce words. Words change 3200 gene expressions. So if you want to know how to change your life and live better, they've already proven it. In science, they say a pessimist will live 6 to 12 years less than an optimist because they look at life as a threat rather than a challenge. So we need to upgrade our thinking. You were superheroes. What's the challenge today? What's going on? I can do it. You know, there's a saying that God doesn't give you anything you can't handle. And my wife has a T shirt that says, he must think I'm a. He must think I'm a badass. Right. Because.
Right.
All the stress that just to live with me. So, you know, that's the. That's the way. So when you think about what's going on, the way you perceive your mindset, if somebody gives you a diagnosis or you're going through like, we're, like you're. You're well known for menopause. If you're looking at that as a threat to your system, you are literally. They've actually proven it. In a study they did during COVID they showed the people that looked at Covid as a threat over people that looked at it as a challenge. We can measure the radiant light that comes from your cells, from your mitochondria. You are a light generating machine that generates 8, 10 to 850 nanometer light. That's why when you walk into a room, some people say they brighten up the room or that one person walks in, they go, wow, the room got a little darker when, When Shelly showed up, you know, or whatever, you know, because there are Debbie Downers out there, right? So you want to be the one that lights up the room. And so brain tap tunes. You also have to think of your body as an instrument. It's a. It's like a musical instrument. And science MIT again proved that every cell of your body is singing. It's actually emitting a tone. And when these tones get in resonance. So the way I explain to people is if you've ever been around cicadas, you know, you're. You're in the woods. One. One cicada starts, then another cicada starts pretty soon. And then over here, that's how the brain works. It starts and it starts recruiting new brain waves. And these brain waves I'm talking about, none of them are evil or bad. We need to. It's kind of like having a car, but you only have one gear. If you only have one gear, that's going to be a pretty useless car. So most people only have one gear in their brain. Stress, frustration, anxiety. And then they wonder why their life isn't working. They need to Change gears. And it's not as simple as just saying it. We need to get our physiology involved. We need to. You cannot think a bad diet. You've got to eat right, right. I don't care how powerful you are. I've never met anybody who's an alchemist like Saint Germain that can take junk food and make it health food, you know, or smoke a cigarette and think they're going to live longer. I mean on their deathbed they're going to say, I wonder how long I could have lived if I didn't do this or that. It wasn't like man, I wish I would have smoked one more cigarette. I could have lived 10 years longer. That, that, that doesn't happen. So, you know, life leaves us clues. Number two, we need to get our body up moving and breathing. If we don't get our body up moving and breathing, then our brain can't function because when we move and breathe, we create something called bdnf. Brain Derived Neurotropic Factors. Think of it as miracle growth for the brain. So imagine that you have the technology inside of you right now that if you get up and do some physical labor, I mean not just walking's good if that's all you can do right now. But if you can do some resistance training, build some muscle. Each one of those muscles is a pharmacy that's producing all of those happy hormones that make you feel good, regulate your hormone production, gets you balanced. I mean you don't have to have night sweats. And I'll explain that in a minute. The every day at 2am in the morning, your temperature is going to increase 2 degrees when you're healthy, if you're not healthy, your nervous system is out of alignment. It's going to increase 4 to 5 degrees. You're going to have night sweats. And it's not menopause. It's because your body's out of regulation. Because there are people that go through menopause with no symptoms. If one person can do it, we can all do it, you know. And then at 2 o' clock in the afternoon you have a downregulation of 2 degrees. This is how the body cleans itself. That's why people, the queen has tea time and people go get coffee and tea and sugar. But what we really want is a nap. Because remember our DNA, our genetic history goes all the way back to the Serengeti. No matter who you are, it traces all the way back to the Serengeti. And what happens in the Serengeti at 2 o' clock in the afternoon. Absolutely not.
Everything goes to sleep. Everybody goes.
Hangs out in history, in the history of the world before the Industrial Revolution, Nobody worked past 2o'. Clock. Farmers didn't work past 2o', clock, you know, but we do. We push through it with, with, with biologics like coffee, tea and sugar and stimulants. And those stimulants, you can do them. The body's an incredible tool. It can, it can, it can work on some real bad junk food, you know, but eventually what'll happen is it'll say, you know what? You made too many withdrawals. We need to make a few deposits here. If not, here's your problem. And it can manifest in all different areas, but the same problem, really, inflammation in the body and from lack of minerals or lack of vitamins and lack of, really lack of fuel for the cells. And if the, if the mitochondria gets the fuel it needs now, what does the fuel of the cell, it's not the food we're eating, because all the food we eat, all the water we drink, it's all converted into electrical energy. That's why we have the electron transport chain in the body. So when you think about the electron transport chain, that means that we must be light beings because we're electric. We're not physical. We drive around these vehicles that are physical, but we're electrical beings. So if we think the right thoughts, we eat the right foods, we take the right actions, we get the right life. If we fall down in those areas, I'm oversimplifying it, but if you miss out on any of those areas, you're going to have confusion, you're going to have anxiety, you're going to have stress, you're going to have worry. And these are warning signs. They're not problems. They're basically telling you, look, you're off course. There's a current over here. They call it the flow state. When you're in the flow state, everything seems to happen. And when you get into the flow state, you start thinking about somebody and go, I am thinking about Dr. Betty. And then she texts me, whoa. What happened? That happens all the time to people once they start getting into the flow state. I was just thinking about you, and then they call you or they email you or they text you. Because MIT six weeks ago, there was a study they brought out that showed the human thought, your thought, like what we're thinking right now, extends 10,000 miles away from the person who had the thought. And it goes into a web almost like the Internet. Yeah. Now, MIT said that. So when we think about consciousness and what arises in us as thoughts, ideas and concepts, it's really our. Like I said, this is a interface to reality. It's not reality.
Oh, you're absolutely right. You know, some of the things that I think are very unique to women, particularly around menopause, because you were talking about neural pruning, and we do know from research that there's a significantly larger amount of neural pruning happening in the brain because of the loss of estrogen, because estrogen affects the mitochondria, affects the cannabinoid system. And so we have, you know, a biological process of the loss of the hormone due to ovarian kind of failure. And I think, you know, if you go back to those seven generations, right, we go back and we go forward seven generations, we'll probably see that women go through menopause at 80, because our life expectancy and span has made it there. Maybe. But. But I think we experience both that physiological, biological, chemical change and. And it shows up electronically in the brain. But the cool thing is, is, you know, like my company, we help restore those hormones and get the biology and physiology on board, right? So all of those things. But then, you know, using a tool like the brain tap, which can really step into those other areas that can help really reset the mind, the electronics, the energy part of. And the central nervous system gives a whole nother. The whole nother level of experience for a woman. Because I think everybody thinks. Because I hear this a lot, you know, they'll.
They'll.
They'll feel an amplification of stress and anxiety and rage and all these things when their hormones are going sideways and hormones. They get hormones back on board and they feel better, for sure. But there's usually this over, you know, overarching issue. And. And again, if we look at our current environment and the unrest that we're sitting in, it's. We're being bombarded, right? Bombarded. And I think what you're talking about is really a tool that somebody could use, you know, 20, 30 minutes a day to really reset their brain. And in full disclosure, when Dr. Porter and I got on, I. I got my first brain tap.
I don't.
Gosh, I don't even know. It was probably like 2009, 2010 somewhere. 20, 2011. I don't know when you started, but it was very early on, you know, and. And it is profound because I think people don't realize how quickly they can change their experience when they work that way through those different mechanisms.
Ladies, if you're noticing more fine lines and wrinkles, it's not just about aging. It's about the loss of estrogen. And that affects our skin structure, making it drier, thinner, less firm. But here's the great news. I've created Biased Mastery Cream to help. This luxurious bioidentical estrogen cream support supports your natural hydration and elasticity. It's packed with nourishing oils like olive jojoba, aloe and coconut. So it feels amazing and helps soften those lines and bring back that healthy glow. I've been using it and let me tell you, my skin has never looked or felt better. It's smoother, more radiant, and those little cracks and creases are way less noticeable. If you're ready to give your skin some extra love, check out BI est Mastery on the Metabolic Blueprint website. And that's metabolicblueprint.com biestmastery. That's B I E S T Mastery. M A S T E R Y and your face will.
Thank you. So now that we kind of talked about that, what are some of the, like, most common things that people say when they start using Brain Tap? What are the things that you hear after all these years?
The first thing that we hear is that I'm sleeping better. Especially if they track it, whether they're using the headset or just the app alone. Because we need to reset the sleep because that star out there we call the sun, they'd actually proven MIT again, came out with a study that showed that our body, if I took your DNA, Dr. Betty and I stapled it to the floor and I stretched it out, it would go to Pluto. It is inside you right now. It's a viscous material that absorbs light energy as codes for the body and instructs the body what to do. And so if we're out of sync with our. We call it the circadian rhythm, right? So. But if we're out of phase, for instance, if we don't get to bed by 10 o', clock, we don't make as much melatonin. If we don't get to bed by 11, we don't clean our liver properly. And this goes, this clock goes on and on all day long, and it resets all day, every day for the rest of your life. So you can't trick Mother Nature, as they say. You know, the. The body knows and it keeps score, you know, so you can get away with it. I mean, in college, we can't get those brain cells Back right, the, whatever we did, the crazy things we did to, to have fun in college. But what we, because they're gone. But what is, what is most important to know is that we have neurogenesis. We can create new brain cells, we can create new Ferraris, new Lamborghinis that, that exist in this day, in this age, that are, that are brain primed to handle the stresses you're under now. Because we only learn and grow from stress. I love it when people tell me, hey Dr. Porter, I just want you to get rid of my stress. I said, you don't want that. I say, because there's only one time in your life when you don't have stress. And they call it death, you know, so you, you want stress. What you want is the capacity to handle it. You know, you look at an athlete, they don't go, you know what? I can lift that weight, I'm going to do that one. No, they go, how much can I lift? How far can I push the human potential? You know, whether it be the four minute mile, when a year later high schoolers are doing it after Bannister did it, or other things that we do, you know, we don't even know the limit. And just so the listeners understand this, imagine you're in medical school, it's 2015, you're in the physiology class and they're telling you about the brain. There's no mention of the glialymphatic system. But some doctor during a study, during a sleep study notices a system of the body that activates like an X Men. It activates during sleep. The glial lymphatic system opens up, it starts cleaning out the brain. But it only happens during level four sleep. So guess what? If you're one of the 2/3 of the world that isn't sleeping, remember those four things, thoughts, traumas, toxins and technology. Those toxins are going to block the signals to the cells. So imagine you start sleeping better. That's the number one thing people tell us. The number two thing is they have stress resilience. Because what I mean by that is I can get stressed, but then I can recover. And when people like Tom Brady, who's our, you know, one of our big sports advocates, he uses brain tap and he's, he's not known to be the strongest and most, most fit. You look at him, he just looks like a regular guy, you know, see on the beach and go, wow, that, that guy's won seven Super Bowls. But what he realized was the biggest thing about health Is recovery. Most women especially do not spend time on themselves. They are giving, giving, giving, giving, giving, giving, giving. And then finally they say, screw you. And they. They have an argument because they say, I'm giving too much. You need to plan getting on yourself. You need to love yourself and give yourself the time to do this. And, you know, and then, of course, all the other things that happen, Weight loss happens, you know, stop smoking, addictions, stop happening. All the things. Any problem you have. This universe we live in is kind of unique, that you only have a problem if you have a solution. I mean, nobody runs around going, I've got to solve this problem with gravity. I just keep getting up and hitting the floor. I don't. I don't understand this gravity thing. No, no, that's a law, right? We're going to stick to the earth, right? So we're not going to solve that problem. But what we can do is, can we be lighter on our feet? Can we feel more joy in our heart? Can we. Can we live a more positive life? These are the things that we get to change. There's a bigger power than us that's taking care of everything else. Just worry about the little things that you're doing. Like I said, the rituals, what are your daily rituals? Because it's not what you do Occasionally. You can have that cake at. At the birthday parties. You can, you can celebrate when you want to. If you want to have a glass of wine, you can do whatever you want to do. But don't celebrate every meal with a glass of wine or a bottle of wine or, you know, or you know, or don't, you know, Whatever your drug of choice is, you know, do it occasionally. Okay, so what? Your body's not going to mind, but if you do it every day, it's going to have a problem because that's not natural. And so what we. What we try to do with brain cap, there's. There's three times a day, really, for people that are really hurting right now. Number one is the morning. There's a saying. Kathy Smith, who's one of my great friends, she's an exercise physiologist, and she's 75 years old now. You saw her, she looks like she's 40.
Oh, I was like. When you said that, I was like, hold on a minute. No way.
Right? Yeah. Yep. She's. She's incredible. And she has a saying. Win the morning, win the day. And the reason for that is imagine that you're in a boat and you want to go across. I have A river right out here, the Neuse river. And if I want to get to the other side, I'm going to start off, I'm going to aim for that point. But let's say that I'm 20 degrees off in the morning and I'd never course correct. I never reboot, I never check where I'm going. I'm not going to end up where I want to go. I'm not going to be able to sleep because I didn't start the morning off right. So the morning, you need a morning ritual that gets your. You remember you're training for the game of life. You're trained. You, you are in a race, the human race. You know, what are you? Don't, don't, don't pretend you don't know anybody. Listens, you can't pretend anymore. You know what's going to happen tomorrow? Plan on solving the problems today so they don't have problems tomorrow. And that's the key thing, I think the brain gap does because we do what we call in nlp, they call it future pacing. A lot of people, your brain's doing this anyway. Everybody's creating their future or their perception of the future. Every bad habit you have, every illness you have, whether you want to admit it or not, at some point in time you allowed it. You agreed to let that be a part of your experience. At some point you have to say, enough's enough. I'm taking back control. What are you doing that? What is the world doing to you? Remember, if you think the world is happening to you, you will always be stressed, you'll always be anxious, you'll always be worried. But if you believe that life is happening through you now you're empowered. You know, it's kind of like the difference. I. When my first book came out, we wrote a book tour and I took my kids with me. I don't recommend that, but because kids are kids, right? We're not even, we're not even outside of the. We're not even outside of our city. We had a mobile motor home. We were going to take a two year. I sold my practice, I'm just going to go talk about this book. And of course I thought the book was going to make me rich and I was never going to work again. That didn't happen. But what happened? We're not even out of the city. And Alex goes, I'm bored. And I said, alex, there's no boring time, only boring people. We need to make you more interesting. I said, you know what's Going on. He had a. He had a bcr. This is when he had tapes, you know. Yeah, vcr. I said, you have all those. They had games they could play that. The problem is that people don't realize the opportunities they have around them. But. So I said, alex, come on up here. And so at the next stop, Cynthia got out of the front, he got up in the front. I showed him a map. I said, this is the map. We didn't have gps. I mean, I wish I would have had it then. I was. We wouldn't have half the arguments we had, right? Because we had these big maps out. So Alex takes the. I said, take the. Take the yellow marker that your mother's been using. And I want you to mark out where we're at now. When's our next stop? Because we knew when we had to stop because it was an rv. It didn't drive forever. So he does it. And I said, what I want you to do is look at the map, look at the signs, look at the map, look at the signs, and you call out those signs to me. He started doing it. It was. Became fun for him. He started realizing these are the milestones in people's lives, right? So he starts looking at the signs, tell me. He says, wow, this is pretty fun. What's going on? Pretty soon he. He falls asleep. We arrive where we're going to go, he goes, wow, that was fast. I go, yeah, because now you have a plan and you have milestones that are met. They're looking for those milestones. And if we took a wrong turn, we knew we took a wrong turn. We got back on the highway, We. We went to the destination. We got to the destination, but that wasn't the end of it. This was a book tour. They had somewhere else for me to go. I mean, when they told me I was in Albany, New York, and in three days I had to be in San Diego, they thought I was going to be on an airplane. I had an RV. I had to drive 12, 14 hours a day to get there. I don't recommend that. But that's the plan. If that's the plan, that's how. That's what you got to do, right? So most people don't realize that there are signs out there. Some signs come as sickness and illness and lack of. If you're not sleeping right now, that's the first sign. You can't fix anything. If you don't fix these two things. Sleep and stress, resilience, because you can take the best nutrients. And I'm a big believer in bioidentical hormones and things like that. My wife takes them. I do. You know, with testosterone and things like that, I think that they're great because as we age, our body just doesn't produce as much. I mean, you. You can be superhuman. But these bodies were. When you think about these bodies, if we were in 1700s, let's say we would be old. I would be a little crusty old man. At 64, they go, man, that guy's ancient. But I feel like I'm 30 now, because 60, the new 30, you know, people, we. I want to do as much as I did in the 30s with my grandkids. I don't want to sit in a rocking chair and retire and expire. I want to keep moving. So what do I have to do? And in one of the books that I'm writing right now, I've written, I've got three of them in the works. The. What is called getting old isn't for sissies. Because men, you know, if you get a PSA reading and it's high, they want to go get cut on. Well, there's a chance they'll never have an erection again. They will. They will have incontinence, they will have pain, and then they'll find out that that test is about 60% false. False. Yeah. It's not even good, you know, so. And they might find out nothing's wrong. It might just be inflammation. But guess what? There's a book. There's a book out there called the. The Testosterone. The Truth About Testosterone or something like that. It's written by a friend of mine at asu. He's a professor, and he did cold plunging. And what he did was he had a really high sa. He had an eight. You know, that's not as high as some people. Some people, you know, if it's any higher. Yeah, yeah. It's supposed to be under 4. Within 8 months. His test, his PSA reading was a 1. His testosterone was a 10. Just by getting in the cold plunge. But if I told somebody they have a high psa, well, go buy a cold plunge. Go in it for two minutes every morning. No way. I can't get in that cold plunge. Well, you're a. Then let them cut on you. There's natural ways to do all these things, and there's people that have been before you, like you. I mean, you have a. You have a body of work where you work with all of these women. It's not. You're not guessing. There's Road signs. Here's what's happening to you, here's what's going on. You know, let's do this, this. And if it works, we keep doing it, then we have this path, this path. There's always an option. And I like to tell people in the world of quantum physics there's a saying, there's only an infinite number of possibilities from any one moment in time. So if you remember that there's only. So that's a limited belief. There's only an infinite number of possibilities. So what we're doing is we're opening the field to possibilities. Most people have one solution for every problem, a pill for every ill. And I like to tell people you can't have a pill without the skill. So do the biologicals that you need to get going. But do the physical exercise, eat properly, get proper sleep, you know, have some kind of mindfulness practice or use brain tap, something to downregulate your nervous system because you're never going to get out of stress. That's not going to happen. It's not in this world because nobody is, nobody's cheering for you. Everybody has their own agenda. And that agenda is to hopefully live a healthy, happy life. But some, obviously there's takers out there and things like that. So you have to be aware of those people, those, they're signs, you know, how many times have you heard, I told you that relationship wasn't going to work, blah, blah, blah, blah. And they go, I know you told me, but I couldn't see it. It's almost like what they call nose blindness. You know when somebody lives next to a dump and somebody stem and they go, how can you live here? It smells so bad. They go, I don't smell it. Because the brain is very good at omitting information that you don't want to know about. It says, oh, you don't want to know about that. I told you about it, but you didn't want to know about it. And that's why people get affected by mold in their homes too. You know, they might be sitting in a mold infested house and they get flu like symptoms. They go to their doctor, he gives them some kind of biological solution and it helps them for a little bit. And the brain goes, okay, I guess this isn't a problem, I'll just stop sending the signal. And then they, they boil in there. Just like the frog that's boiling the water during, you know, psychology class 101, where you know, the, the frog that they try to put in the Boiling water jumps right out. Nobody would get into that stressful situation. But you just sit there and bask in that and think, this is my life. No, this isn't your life. That was your life. You have to start thinking that was your life. And it. Your past does not dictate your progress, present or future. It's just experiences. Now that you have all those experiences, how many times have you heard the saying, I wish I knew. Now then, you know, I wish I could go back in time and change. Well, with Brain Tap, you can't really go back in time, but what we can do is we can go back and neural prune some of those negative statements, because those limited beliefs are what's stopping most people from their health journey. Because they believe what their doctors have told them about. Because unfortunately, in America, everybody's afraid of being sued. You know, they tell you all the ways that surgery could go wrong instead of telling you all the ways it could go right. Because if it goes right, okay, great, that's what we expected. But if it goes wrong, I don't want to be sued. So you've got to become your own internal cheerleader and say, hey, this is going to be great. If you need a surgery, get a surgery. But I always say, exhaust everything else first, and then you can do what doesn't work. Yeah. The number two cause of death in the world is not anything to do with you. It's medical malfeasance because they did the wrong thing at the wrong time. My grandfather died. They left the suture in him during a heart transplant.
Yeah.
I mean, that stuff happens all the time.
Yeah. Go leave your health up to somebody else. Empower yourself, get educated. Join your menopause mastery. If you're watching this. This podcast, because it's all about information.
Yeah. No, it's so true. And so, you know, I want to. I want to point out, as we kind of wrap up, you have a book out called the Brain Fitness Blueprint, and we're going to give a link to it so you can. So you can down. So you can go buy it, so we can let everybody know how to really retrain the brain. And like I said, I've done Brain Tap for a long time, and there's one of your programs, Mind Over Menopause. And we're going to work with you on that, Minerva, and Menopause Mastery, and help retool it, too, which I'm very excited about. But I think it's. It's so profound when you do all of these things together that it really can help change somebody's life. And so, you know, if there's any last minute things you'd want to tell my listeners about the Brain Tap to sort of help them see that, what would you say if you were to like, see, summarize it.
I think one thing is it's natural to quit. Unfortunately. In fact, in January, the, the third Friday in January is called Quitters Day because that's the day that 99% of all people that had New Year's resolutions quit. And it's a cycle. If you can break that cycle and make it 28 days or more, they found that you will stay on that program. So what we did in Brain Fitness Blueprint is we created a 30 day plan. So you read the book, read the 30 day plan. And the thing is that in the book it's not just about Brain Tap, there's some about Brain Tap, but it's about things you can do daily, rituals you can do daily to tune up your brain, keep your brain sharp, keep your relationships thriving, keep your work life, you know, you need to separate. We don't work to live the work life. Should give us a life, not be our life, you know, and things of that nature. And although I don't feel like I work anymore, I still feel like every morning I get up, it's the first day of school. So you know, when you think about, because there's so much to learn, there's so much new information about the brain, so much new information about health. I mean, what's happening with the, with all these different things going on, things I don't even know about until I go to a conference and I hear the speaker and I go, wow, that's amazing. You know what's happening? We're, we're in the greatest period of time to be on the earth because like I said, if we were back in the 1700s, the life expectancy was around 30. They didn't experience menopause, they didn't need your program.
Yeah. Even as recently as 1900, our lifespan was not close.
Right. So in what I tell people is think of health span, not just lifespan, because we don't know when our return ticket is. You know, it can come any day. So we should live like the shaman. The shaman says, live your life as if it's your last. So give that person a hug, tell them you love them, do, do the things you would do if you knew you were never going to see them again today. Don't wait, but plan your life like you're going to live forever. That's what you need to planning because, because we don't know what to expect and is in when we're in the flow and let go and let life happen through us, nothing can happen to us. That's the key.
That is the key.
Well, Dr. Porter, this has been so wonderful and we'll make sure that we have links in our show Notes to the Brain Fitness Blueprint and, and a link so they can go check out the Brain Tap. And there's so many different programs and there's like anything and everything. And the cool thing about BrainTap is you can have it and your whole family can benefit from it. You know, so one, one for the family works really well.
My vision is to better a billion brains. And that's going to happen in the families. You know, it's happening with our practitioners that are out there like you sharing it with your, your people that are coming into the clinic. They, they see it and this is, and it's not expensive. So you know, when you think about activating the world's greatest pharmacy, the human brain, it can create 30,000 different neurochemicals with a simple thought. They can be positive or negative. So we want to start activating those positive neurochemicals and hormones and things in the body to assist. Now we can't stop aging, but as Wayne Dyer said, never let an old person inhabit your body. You know, so we want to make sure that you're young at heart and you hear, you're physically strong and you can do the things that you want to do tomorrow because you planned today. You, you trained for today. You know, you didn't let light just say, oh well, God punishes is punishing me because I don't have a, because I, I swore yesterday or something. You know, it's like, no, nobody's punishing you. You're punishing yourself. Forgive yourself. The past is the past. Pick it up, get educated, start doing the things that work. And if they don't work, stop fast and do something else. Always change, you know, because that's the one constant right in the Universe is change.
