Dr. Betty Murray explains how fiber triggers your gut bacteria to produce butyrate, which activates receptors that release GLP-1 and PYY hormones. These same hormones are in weight-loss injections, but fiber activates them naturally by improving satiety, digestion, and insulin sensitivity.

we actually have GLP-acting activities based on the fiber that you get in your diet. So fiber increases insulin sensitivity and it is a GLP-1 blueprint, right? So here's the, the example that you wanna think about, right? Our gut produces endogenous levels. So that's inside the gut levels of GLP-1 and PYY. Both of those hormones affect satiety, digestion, gastric emptying, and satisfaction. And this is naturally produced in your gut when you have short-chain fatty acids, butyrate in particular, that bind to a G protein-coupled receptor. And the two receptors are GPR41 and GPR43 in the colon, right? Bacteria produce the short-chain fatty acids that help the receptors, so they attach to the G-coupled protein receptor that turns on the natural production of these two very important hormones, and guess what? You have the same mechanism that we inject every day when you're on a GLP-1.
