Dr. Betty Murray discusses a survey of 5,300 women on perimenopause symptoms. Fatigue, brain fog, and sleep problems rank highest. Nine of the ten most common symptoms are neurological or cognitive, and they're worse during perimenopause than menopause. Women report an average of 31 concurrent symptoms.
Sleep issues are the third most common symptom of perimenopause and menopause. What do you think the number one most common symptom is? And again, this is according to 5,300 women as of today, and 73% of women experience this in perimenopause and menopause. What do you think the number one symptom across the board is?
I mean, I know what we get told. I would say it's, it's a more gray area thing. I don't feel like myself, like mood.
It's fatigue.
Fatigue. Yeah, just brain fog, mood, fatigue.
So fatigue number 1, brain fog number 2, sleep issues number 3. Out of the top 10 most common symptoms, 90% are mental health, cognitive health, brain health related. That's what our research shows. 90, so 9 out of 10 of the most common symptoms are neuro-related. Like, and that was something that I was like, wait, well, we all hear about the physical symptoms of perimenopause and menopause, but no, mental, emotional. By the way, even more so, like, yes, physical for sure, We also know when we stratify the data between perimenopause and menopause is that in perimenopause, the neuro symptoms, the brain health, the cognitive, the mental health symptoms are way worse than they are once we go into menopause, which is more so physical. They both exist, but they're more so physical in menopause than they are in perimenopause. So it's so fascinating. And on average, women are experiencing 31 different symptoms. So we're not talking about one symptom. We're talking on average, women are experiencing 31 different symptoms at the same time, by the way.
