Dr. Betty Murray explains why doctors skip breathing techniques for heartburn, even though diaphragmatic breathing can reverse it. The diaphragm acts as a central pump affecting heartburn, blood pressure, belly fat, and brain fog. Stress and poor posture compress the ribcage and push the diaphragm down, limiting breathing efficiency.

And when was the last time you went to the doctor for heartburn and they said, oh, you could do these breathing techniques? There's great research on if all you gotta do is this breathing technique, it'll reverse your heartburn. That never happens. Never happens. And I feel like some of this is like, so is like malpractice because no one tells you that you can do so many of these things yourself just by literally breathe away your heartburn, breathe away your blood pressure just by getting your diaphragm, the extra belly fat, the brain fog, the cognitive decline. Those are pumping issues. And the major pump is your diaphragm. And as we get stressed out and get rigid, and we sit in the couch and the ribcage gets pushed down in the diaphragm, pushing it in a downward position, we literally are just making it more and more difficult for us to have full respiratory capacity and efficiency.
