Dr. Betty Murray explains why the carnivore diet's short-term digestive benefits don't last. Cutting out fiber kills off beneficial gut bacteria, and there's no scientific evidence it improves metabolic health or reduces disease risk long-term. The data suggests the opposite.

So, if I'm doing a carnivore diet and I don't even look at fiber, I'm gonna have some of this. I don't care how strong your digestion is because you basically took all the animals that exist in your Amazon and you killed all of them but the snakes and the spiders. Just 'cause you can survive on it doesn't mean it's the greatest for you. Now, a lot of people, a lot of people have used carnivore diet and had improvement in digestive symptoms and a bunch of other things. In the short term, those kind of diets can be used to shift microbial balance and things like that. However, long term, you will kill off those microbes. We have research that already shows that. And in the long term, it will make you less capable of handling a varied diet, and it is not associated with improved metabolic activity, reduced disease state, or anything else. Just gonna be honest, we don't have the data to support that, and most of the data would resoundingly look at the other direction.
