Hair Transplant: 1 month later

This is a YouTube video titled "Hair Transplant: 1 month later" containing a conversation recorded in April 2025 between Dr. Cory Goldberg and a patient named Danny. The discussion focuses on the patient's recovery progress one month after a hair transplant surgery, covering topics such as healing, hair growth expectations, post-operative care, and future treatment options like PRP therapy.
Welcome back, Danny. It's good to see you.
Good to be back.
So we're at the four week mark now. How are things feeling?
It feels good. Way better than it was. It's still a little bit tender at the back. Day to day, it doesn't bother me at all.
Glad to hear it. And you had sent me some pictures of the little crust and the hair coming off. That looks perfectly normal. Obviously as we talked about the hair shafts come out, it took two, three weeks for your crust to come off.
So three and a half weeks for them to all come out.
The graft sites look like they're doing really well and everything is sealed up really nicely on the backside. So now that we're at four weeks, you're back to normal activities. So swimming, sauna, full gym, exercise is all. How is sleep?
Sleep's fine. Yeah, sleep's good. I actually found the second week after the surgery to be the most painful. Maybe just because I was taking fewer. But since week three, I haven't had issues sleeping. I've been fine.
Glad to hear it. So at this point you're back to normal sleeping?
Yeah, it's great to be back to side sleeping.
Okay, let's talk about what comes next. First off, you're okay to get back to your Rogaine treatments now and the finasteride that you can continue. As far as shampoo and hair treatments, you can get back to normal as well. You're okay to use.
I've been using the baby shampoo. I might keep using it.
That sounds just fine. But dandruff shampoo or whatever treatments is okay. Also at this point. I know you had some questions earlier about what kind of hats or things you can wear at four weeks out. I'm fine for you to go back to wearing any kind of hat. So I'm not. Anything goes.
There's no wearing it for a certain amount of time is a problem. Correct.
At this point, the follicles are integrated. They're in the skin. They are alive and healthy. As we talked about the hair shafts that are sticking out, those ones are. They're going to fall out and then eventually it'll start growing. Probably in the first three to six months, they'll start growing little thin hair. Six to 12 months is when you're going to really start seeing some thick hair coming out. So it'll be a nice gradual transition from thin in hair to thick adult hair.
Okay.
Do you have any other questions for me for now?
Direct sunlight. I'm still avoiding direct sunlight.
You're going to want to make sure you put some sunscreen up there if you're going to be without a hat because of course sun damage does still get through hair. So you have some kind of COVID up, especially in the, in the areas where there's some thinning. The only other thing that you could consider moving forward as far as a little extra juice to get the hair follicles growing is prp. PRP is platelet rich plasma. PRP is sort of a way that we concentrate growth factors out of your blood and then inject it into the area where we've done the grafts and that can help stimulate them grow a little faster, a little thicker, and so it gives us a bit better hair growth. It's an add on. On top of all the things you're doing already when it comes to hair, it's good to sort of add as much different modalities as possible because that usually makes for the best outcome and also minimizes additional loss in the area. I'm looking forward to seeing you for our next follow up visit. I usually see people back at around the six month mark for a checkup just to make sure that things are starting to grow and see if there's any additional questions at that time. I look forward to seeing you in a few months.
