Connect to Purpose with the GrowthDay App

Drew Bridewell (Head of Product & Design at GrowthDay) leads a live Growth Group session focused on connecting to purpose using the GrowthDay app. He shares his personal backstory, three core ideas for maintaining purpose (1. connect to your "Big Why" in your profile, 2. consistently build joy/fun/excitement into rituals/routines/habits, 3. adopt a contribution mindset), demonstrates related in-app features (journal, Life Scores, Plans, reminders; journal search is promised in a future release), and gives concrete tactics/homework (write a short motivating story, daily journaling, set plans/reminders, use affirmations). He also previews upcoming sessions on influence & courage, tools/people/tactics, and reflection.

This week actually is purpose week for part of my programs and what I'm teaching and coaching and even my team. And also I'm going to give you three big ideas about purpose today and how to integrate it into the Growth Day app. I'm also going to share some tactics that you can implement to help reconnect to some of that purpose. It's going to be good, it's going to be fun, and I'm going to support you today and doing that. Now, if you have any questions, any comments or anything that's on your mind, let's add it to the chat today and we'll get to kind of get this thing going. And cool thing is even though we have right now, like we have over 110 RSVPs here, so maybe over the coming weeks we'll get. We could get like a hundred people in, in this growth group. It'd be super awesome, super pumped and just gonna make it happen this week. We also, yeah, it's. I'm in a new space. You can actually see. I'm in my actual like RV studio, which is cool because we travel around quite a bit on our, My family, we've been traveling. We're in Asheville, North Carolina right now. And it's cool because I can basically take my remote studio and take it wherever we want to go, which is kind of cool. It's kind of fun. I love it. Hey Lita. Hey. Hey, Cheryl. Hey Marlene. Let's go, let's go. All right, cool. So we're just going to let people in. If this is your very first growth group, then please introduce yourself in the chat. Love to get to know you and yeah, let's go. So cool. Let's do this. Hey Kathy. Yeah. Let's go, let's go. Yeah, fascinating thing. For literally almost a year, we ended up, we were in Napa, California. We were in the Bay Area and we were in the Bay Area for about eight years. And we, I mean once, well after, after kind of COVID you know, the two years of COVID where we were just indoors. We were in Alameda, California at the time and we were doing a lot of research and this is all tied to even purpose too. We had this inquiry or this curiosity for our family and I have a 13 year old son that we homeschool and my wife and I, Jamie, we were like, where could we actually if we could live anywhere in the country, where would we go? What would we explore? What would be the determining factors that would help us decide where we want to travel? To. And we learned about this ecosystem or this environment for homeschooling. It was called. It's an agile learning center. And we looked across the entire United States, and there's about 12 of these in the United States. And the interesting thing about this was we were like, well, let's go check it out. Let's. Let's go on this adventure. Let's go figure it out. So we packed all of our stuff up in storage. It's literally in storage in Napa, California. Like, about four bedrooms worth of stuff in a storage unit in Napa. And we just took our RV and our car and drove across the country. I mean, we're used to traveling because we have an rv. We'd go and stay at, like, airbnbs and. And also, you know, fun outdoor camping sites and RV parks and. Super fun. And through this adventure, we are going to decide whether or not we wanted to stay on the east coast and move all of our stuff over or if we wanted to go actually go back to California. And we've actually decided that we do want to actually head back to Colorado and California. So over the next couple months, you'll actually see the adventures that we'll go on, which is super fun, because even during this time, we're still gotta run product, still gotta run design here at Growthday. And as you know, if this is your first time experiencing a growth group with me, my name is Drew Bridewell. I'm head of product and design here at Growth Day. And really just an incredibly passionate person about learning and development. And over the last eight years of my career, I've been really focused in learning and development. I've worked at Lynda, the late, great Lynda.com if you've ever heard of Lynda.com, this was like, you know, 20 years of online learning. And, you know, I helped design and build that entire platform, helped build it, redesign it from the ground up. And. And that was just a huge. A huge kind of claim to, you know, really building incredible teams. And so I was there. And then through that time, I also, after Linda, I was a part of the LinkedIn acquisition. So when LinkedIn bought Lynda.com, i was a part of that, that acquisition, went over and got to work with LinkedIn for a couple more years. And then when Microsoft bought LinkedIn, I was also part of that adventure. So I got to see, you know, the evolution of these companies and, you know, and building technology. But then from there, I ended up leaving LinkedIn. I went to this company called Envision and Envision. If you haven't heard of Envision, they're kind of like a collaborative technology, a collaborative software. And welcome everybody that's just joined. I'm giving a little bit of a backstory of this week and purpose, but I joined Envision and then when I was at Envision, I was literally flying around the country and the world teaching about design and product maturity. And if you're just joining and we're getting a lot of people just joining now, I've been in the practice of teaching design and teaching product management and building high performing teams. And then through that adventure, I ended up really missing working with like. So I was working with Hundreds of Fortune 500 companies and learning about their systems, learning about their teams, and then I started finding out that I really missed that camaraderie of building a project or building a product from zero to one over time, because I was just like, as a consultant, I would go in and they'd be like, drew, can you help us identify the challenges or problems in this organization or in this team? So I would map out the team, I would map out the systems, and then I would start figuring out, like, okay, well, what can we do to integrate and to iterate on the team's performance? And through that, I really missed the team environment. So I did that for like, almost like two years flying around the world, which was super fun. And then I ended up going back and I wanted to work at two companies. Two companies were on my mind at the time. I wanted to work. Either work at Facebook and really try to help evolve Facebook and work in their performance teams and just help their company and staff. I was really into, like, I was incredibly social. I loved posting on social media and, you know, doing my thing there. But then I wanted to either work at Facebook or I wanted to work at Netflix. I love technology in the TV industry and actually like, not, not just the TV industry, but like entertainment industry and building good quality content. I just love that. So, full story. Then I left Facebook, started my own company, and then I met Brendan, and then we ended up founding and building out Growth Day, which is just absolute incredible tool. So if this is your first time experiencing Growth Day, you're just getting to hear a full little story about it. So is there anybody today in the. In the group that. Is this your very first growth group that you've attended? I see some familiar faces, but I also see some new faces. Oh, yeah. Fury, Furry. This is your first time coming in there? Yeah. Yeah. Yep. Okay. I see some raised hands. It's your first time. If this is your first time. I end up hosting these growth groups every single week. And what I'm going to do is I have a specific topic that I go through this week. I'm talking about purpose. So I'm going to give you three big ideas to help elevate your kind of your connection with purpose. And then I'm also going to give you some tactics that you can practice, you know, between now and the next week. And then we'll have another check in next week. It's going to be super fun. But also feel free to reach out to me on social media. DM me if you have any questions. You can DM me inside the tutool or you can DM me on like, LinkedIn. I'm @abridwell on LinkedIn and I'm @ Drew Bridewell on Instagram and just would love to support y' all in learning and growing inside of this tool and learning how to get the most out of it. This is what I absolutely love and cherish. And we're gonna keep making this product super awesome for all ya. So thanks for being here and let's just get this show on the road. So backstory, you know that I'm a product in design leader. I run the team here. And also I just am kind of obsessed with learning and development. I think I can remember back. And I also want you to think about at what point in your life and career did you decide that you wanted to get better? And you, at that time, you were like, okay, I want to get better at this thing. So I'm going to put in the time, I'm going to put in the effort, I'm going to put in the practice to get better at this thing. And I can remember that was in literally my sophomore year of high school, which is seems like so far away, so far long ago. And I got. I took my very first Photoshop class and at that point in time and I, and I share that story because. And I shared my backstory a little bit because at that point in time, that was my first connection to purpose. It was my first connection to feeling inspired about something. It was my first connection to feeling like, okay, I could do that for the rest of my life and be completely content and be completely satisfied. And, you know, I didn't know that I was going to end up homeschooling my son for 13 years. I didn't know. And he's still, we're still homeschooling Him. I didn't know that I was going to meet the love of my life in college, like, a couple of years after that. I didn't know all these things were going to happen. But what I did know was that when I got to create something and when I got to learn something new and build up my knowledge skill set, that it fired me up. It got me so, like, excited, and it gave me fulfillment that I. I never had tapped into yet. So today, what I want to do is help you tap into your purpose and help you tap into how you're going to actually not just know what it is, but how to maintain and continuously connect to it. Because, y', all, we change so much. We are a very adaptable human, like, human society. And, you know, when new things come in, we get excited about those things. But, you know, maintaining that consistency and maintaining that, like, excitement for the things that we do over the long term, it was, like, where the magic really happens, you know? And, you know, we often say at growth day is like, we want to make growth day. We want to make self improvement a way of life. But we also wanted to normalize that it's okay to be novice at something, and it's okay to level up over the long term. Right? It's what we do. It's super fun. So we're going to talk about that today, too. So to get started. Yeah, let's go. All right. To get started, what I want to do first is just talk about intentionality. Now, how many times have you heard, like, the. Like the word or the idea, the concept that need to be a little bit more intentional? I need to bring. Bring a little bit more intentionality into the things we do, and this deeply connects back to purpose. Because if you have an idea of what it is that you're trying to be intentional about, you're going into, you know, each moment of your day with a little bit of intentionality is like thinking about, how am I preparing for this moment? What am I. What. What am I expecting to feel in this moment? How am I expecting to interact with people in this moment? And generally, like, what does success look like for any given thing? It could be like, what does success look like for this walk that I'm going to take around the block? I want to get the fresh air hitting my face. I want to open up my lungs and just walk and experience the ground and just walk around. Like, that's intentionality, Right? You're bringing intention into the things that you do. The same thing goes when we're trying to build purpose and trying to like, seek it, connect to it. The first thing that I typically do is I like to connect to a big Y. Now if you go over into and if you want to follow me and I'll share my screen. If you don't want to, like, follow around the browser, I'm going to share my screen and I'm going to take you over to the profile. So if you go up to your avatar in the very top right and you click your profile and I'm going to zoom in a little bit here, we actually built this directly into the tool. Your big why? The big why is important because this is this, this identif. Like this, this core identification of how do I want to show up and what is like my big purpose statement. And you can actually write that into the tool. So if you click the edit button up in your profile, you can come in and you can look at like your big why. Now the research shows, like, if you, you know, similar, like reflecting and journaling, like, actually putting this down on paper is a really big important step. And obviously it's not paper. It's a tech tool. So you can, you know, just write it. If you don't want to write it in the tool, you can write it in your notes right now. If you don't want to write it in your notes right now, you can grab a post it and write it in your post it and that's fine too. And the thing is, like, if, you know, we want to try to put it in paper, write it down. Because just being able to connect to your big why is going to give you a sense of awareness of how you actually want to show up every day. Like, or what's going to actually motivate you and give you that necessity. In Brendon's terms, it would be necessity. What is the primary reason for you to, you know, wake up excited and motivated and encouraged for the day to get after it? Now I'm going to share a couple of mine here. I'll actually just paste them in the chat so you can see, like, how I think about this. But I want you to today, if you haven't yet answered this question in the tool, I want you to go to your profile and I want you to just try to write it in. So here, I'm going to paste this in for you. Yes. All right. So these are kind of like my core big whys in the tool and how I like to how like to show up. Now there is a recipe for how you can get to this point. And I'll share that really quickly too. But I'll just read these to you real quick. So first, I want to learn and take care of my mind, body and spirit. That's like my big why is like, if I'm going to do things in my life, I want to make sure that my mind, my body and my spirit is calm, cool, collected, ready to take action, ready to focus, ready to take on new big, challenging things. But I also want to do it in a very highly intentional way because I have a lot of responsibility and I wanna make sure that I'm showing up in those moments in a way that really embodies the type of person I wanna be. And I love this. I love this because this is like something, okay, If I feel outta whack or something, then I know the things that I can do to reconnect to my mind, body and spirit. Like, I got injured earlier this year. I was lifting a big giant box and. And you know what? Just getting older. So I can't lift things the way that I used to lift them When I was, you know, college athlete in baseball and stronger, I was lifting so much more. But now I'm kind of like, I don't like, want to. I mean, maybe at one point I'll get super strong in, but. But I lost a little strength. So I injured my back. And then during that time, I couldn't use my body very well, but my mind was starting to really struggle with, okay, I can't do all the things that I would normally do, but I know that my, my body is super important. I need to keep my spirits up. I need to really focus and meditate and really figure out a way to keep my mind right so that when my body's back, I can, I can pull all these things back together. You know, it's just a, you know, everybody's got a unique way of handling these things. But that was one of the things for me. The other thing that I have for my big why is I want to support the people I love, the team I strive with, and the outcomes we're shooting for. Growth day is a beautiful part of growth for all of us in individual ways. Right. We can use this tool in an agnostic way where you can use the journal in certain ways. I use the journal for note taking sometimes when I'm in a meeting and I like to reflect on that and then I'll talk about like, what, you know, what could have made this meeting better or what did I learn from this meeting. Like If I'm interviewing somebody, I'll use a journal for that. From a benchmark perspective, when we're thinking about how we create impact, Life Scores is a way that you can measure success so that when you are going in and you're trying to really understand how you're going to improve over your year or your days, weeks, or months, you can come into the Life Scores to be able to reflect on that and get back on track, Right? So this is, like, how you can support yourself, and that's another way to do it. You can also use the plan tool to be able to go in and put your plans and your goals and your kind of, like, big theme systems that you want to put in place to really go and get after it, another way to look at it. But you can use the tool any way that you desire, and you'll find through using it. You know, I'm almost on my, like, 500 scores, and I think, like, as you go through this, you just get comfortable, like, evaluating yourself, not in a stressful way, but evaluating yourself in a way that just knows, like, okay, this is where I'm at today. Where do I want to be? Can I get it a little bit better for the next one? What are the things I could do to do that? Right. You know, it's just a. It's just kind of like an evaluation, a measurement side of things, and Life Scores has been proven to do that. Like, before the app was even. Even existed, those assessments were like a $300 assessment. And, you know, take you. We would charge for those things. Now we have them built into the tool so you can do them every day, and it's integrated into your lifestyle, into what you want to do. The other thing that we. That I have in here is, like, accelerating advancing people and achieving their goals, dreams, and ambitions and building a loving, supporting family environment. Like, I coach and I like the. I like creating that culture of growth, and I like creating a culture of learning. To do that, I need to make sure that the environment that I'm creating and the environment that I'm creating for my family is a healthy environment. That's a supportive environment. That's a inclusive environment. I think the same thing goes when we're creating community and creating growth groups and creating an environment inside of this tool. We have to think about those things and think about what it takes to create really healthy environments. You know, not a negative. An environment where it's not super negative and it's not, like, demeaning or authoritarian over people. It's really an open place to learn, to grow. Like, share stories, be vulnerable, ask for help, get support. You know, it's like kind of a. It's just a community. It's a community of support. And I think that's also something that, like, really connects. Connects me to my greater purpose. Same thing with, I want to create high performance teams and environments. Like, when I think about this, I'm like, well, when I wake up every day and I think about, like, the environments that we create, like, it fires me up and gets me excited. Like, that again, connects me back to my purpose. And I'm going to give you three core ideas, and I'm starting with this just so you can start thinking about. Like, if you were to articulate and explain your big why and explain your purpose of how you want to show up every day, the more clarity that you can create from journaling, from reflecting on this, and from either sharing it to your friends, family, loved ones, or even with us, there's a way this kind of opens up a whole nother realm of awareness. And that's really what we want to do to be able to tap into that purpose. And I think that's just another really exciting thing. All right, so three big ideas. First that we need to do. We talked about the first one already, which is connecting to the big why you can do that in the profile. The second thing we need to do is to consistently build in joy, fun and, and excitement into our daily rituals, routines, and habits. Boom. Which one? Kind of Shara Alita, like, which one do you. Which one do you need to work on? But anyway, let's circle back here. Building in the joy, fun, excitement. What does this look like? So if you're really trying to connect to your purpose on a regular basis, you got to think about, well, what things are going to give you energy and what things are going to take away your energy. You know, you might have friends, you might have different experiences that end up sucking your energy dry, or you might have experiences that lift you up, that make you feel fulfilled and energized and motivated to do the things that are most important to you. Really, it's like, I want to try to work in these systems that allow you to be at your best. So, so what do those things look like? For me, Joy, every day is me getting outside and going on a run, a walk, or doing some form of exercise outside. That sun, that vitamin D, that, like, energy of the nature. And it's probably why I ended up getting an RV and we travel because I love the way it feels. So I want you today to write down or journal about what are the things that bring you joy, that bring fun, and that get you excited about things. So I love going on adventures. I love taking on new bold things. Like, we planned about six months of planning to get to do this entire trip where we could actually put everything in storage and go and, you know, be on this adventure. We obviously don't want to do this our entire life. We want to get back into a home and settle and, you know, build our roots and. But we wanted to go on this trip and it was a good point in time to do that, like, right after Covid, where we couldn't have. We couldn't, like, leave our homes because of, you know, because of what had happened. But it was like a release to be able to go out and adventure, and I'm really grateful that we were able to do that. So super good stuff. So excitement. That was kind of exciting. The fun part was okay. Now our son Jude is in competitive soccer. So it's like getting the fun to do soccer on the weekends and practice during the week, having fun shipping new products and experiences and features here in growth day. And then also we actually have a conference coming up. If you go to growthday.com Austin growthday.com Austin, you can actually come and see us all in person in April. And it's gonna be an absolute blast. We're gonna have like four days of training, but also we'll be, you know, just having a great growth experience with Brendan and Trit Shelton, Lisa Bilyeu and Lori Harder. And it's just gonna be a blast. Kind of reconnect with fun, excitement and purpose. This event's gonna really help with that as well. So that's gonna be really fun. So that was the second thing, right? Building fun, joy and excitement. The first one was connect to our big why and understand what. How to do that also. Let me actually just double tap into that real quick. So if you're struggling with how to connect to your big why, I'm going to give you six prompts that you can do that are going to help you kind of flesh this out and figure it out. The first one is you got to understand your priorities. Like, life priorities. Like, what are your life priorities? Is it to be healthy, strong and fit? Is your priorities to be financially free? Is your priorities to just do really well in your career this year? Is it to start a new company? I mean, it could be anything. Like, what are your priorities? Work those things out. Create a list Got it. Second thing we got to do is figure out the opportunities that we have. And opportunities are like, kind of like, you know, could be some kryptonite, some. Some areas of your life that you got to work on. That's an opportunity. Another opportunity might. And opportunities can come from problems that you have. And, okay, well, maybe you're working through a relationship challenge. That's an opportunity. Like, you can turn that problem into an opportunity of what you're going to do about it and test it, practice it, iterate on it, make it better. Another opportunity might be you want to grow in something new. You want to become something that you're currently not. That's an opportunity for you. So, you know, we'll write those things up, get them done, and have an idea of what those things are. So, right, we have our, our priorities, we have our opportunities. The next thing that we need to know is we kind of need to start forming our purpose of what it is that we actually like, where we want to point our energy. That's going to also help you kind of, you know, flushing these two things out will also help lead to that. And then the next three things are understanding how you want to. Your identity. Like, if you were to define your identity in one word or three words or just like one thing, what would you. How would you define yourself? Like, for me, in the past, it would be consistent. Like, I also have a bracelet on that's like create. Because for me, when I create something every day, it brings me so much joy and so much excitement. And I love creating things today. Like, we're working on a bunch of fun social media assets for the conference. That's really fun for me. We're working on new features for the product. That's really fun for me. It gets me excited. So I'm creating and that's really helping me connect to my joy and want you to think about what yours are. The fifth one. So we talked about priorities. We got priorities, opportunities, your purpose, identity. Then the next one is how you want to interact with other people. Like, what is interaction? Like, how do you want to interact? Fun, exciting, exuberant, like present, focused, whatever it is, you want to be able to define those. And then the last one is you want to understand what success looks like. So if you can answer those six questions, it's going to help you have a holistic view of how to answer your big why and understand, like, how these things kind of work together. Because you're looking at your life holistically. Right? I know I'm Going pretty fast. If you have questions, please feel free to put it in the chat. All right, so the last three, the last thing for the kind of getting to your purpose and connecting to it, right? Connecting to a big why? Second one was building into joy, fun, excitement. The third one is tapping into a contribution mindset. A contribution mindset is thinking about how you contribute to your individual. So how you contribute to yourself, how you can contribute to your team, how you can contribute to society, how you can contribute to community. Like, where are you contributing? In different ways, you know, whether it's volunteering, whether it's supporting your team, accomplishing a certain task or a certain achievement or a certain, like, goal. Or it could be, how are you contributing to just your household? Making your household awesome to live in, to experience, talk, you know, conversations. How are you contributing to the overall picture? Tapping into these three things and knowing how you go about it and working through those things are going to really serve you in the long run when it comes to connecting to purpose. So when we go in and we look at, like, our journal or I'm going to go away from my journal, so you're not seeing any of this stuff. But when we come in every day and we're, like, tapping in, I'm going to check in with growth day, and I'm going to tap in to maybe the Daily Fire. It's going to help me kind of reconnect and reevaluate and maybe just get a quick little dose of coaching and a different perspective today about, you know, whatever the topic is for the day. Today's Brennan's doing a replay on the affirmations and different things that you can ask yourself and coach yourself on. And then we're also. Okay, well, great. I'm in a live session today. What are the other things that you're creating? What are the things that you could be journaling about to reconnect? And, you know, this is really fun, too, because if you haven't yet seen this, you can actually click through, through different prompts to help you kind of get a new perspective about something that, you know, maybe you would never think to ask yourself. That's why we have, you know, all these journal prompts and we have a ton of them. So go ahead and check those out and really play with those. The other thing is, like, life scores is going to help you stay balanced and measured around how you're performing across the most important areas of. Of the research that we've done around high performance habits. But you can start to see, like, across these 10 categories, how you're performing and how you're showing up, you can actually break those things down and see specific categories like, how am I doing sleep? Making sure I'm dialing in all these things, how am I doing productivity? You know, there's some days where I'm lower in productivity and some days where I'm higher in productivity. Like, this is all going to be depending on how you're moving through your life and how you're, you know, working through things. If you didn't know. The journal and the life scores has this sidebar. It's kind of like a coaching sidebar where you can actually see your journal entries if you hover over them. And you can also tap in on what you're doing in the previous months. So I can see all the days that journaled and all the different, you know, previous months and what I was doing for each of those things. And you can come back through and have a little reflection moment for those. So super cool. All right. And then you have your plans. Let me just come back in. Let me come back to Friday finishers, supporting teams. Let me come back down to, like, just one. Ah. So there was a question about being able to search through journals. This is something we're actually working on, and this will probably come out in the next couple of. Of releases. And the journal search is going to be really nice because you'll just be able to search by keywords of things that are inside your journal and then we actually highlight the words that you search for. This is. It's a really big project because your journal is encrypted, right? We can't search. We can't, like, index your. Your journal. So we had to work around that and detect to make sure that, you know, you can still search your journal, but it's still super private and it's still only for you to do that. So we're working through that. It's going to be coming soon, so you'll get to enjoy that very soon. So thanks for the question. Control, like F or command F, you know, which is just like your browser, you can do that today, but we'll actually have an input that you can type in the words hit return and then get a series of results. So that's going to help you. That's going to be. Be super. Just supportive for you to see that. So just to recap, get you in here, I want you to think about, like, get excited about your future, y'. All. When you're thinking about your purpose and thinking about the things that are gonna light you up. Get back in there and think about, all right, what could I do for my purpose this week? And I'll actually even create a plan for you so you can actually start that. I also want you to think about, like, the new passions, the new passions you want to like, kind of step into this year and take on. And then. And I also want you to think about the industry that you currently work in or you contribute to and think about is that the industry that you want to be contributing to, whether it's, you know, in the community here or whether it's like, you know, in. In the parenting industry, whether it's in the design industry, whatever industry it is, think about how you can contribute to that, to that industry and get after it. All right, so let's just call this plan a purpose plan. And if you want to follow along with me, just go over to your plan and hit create plan. And then we're going to call this a purpose plan. It's going to be 2023, all right? And this is going to us be creating a system really quick on how we're going to maintain this. Now we're going to set a reminder, because if you haven't yet set a reminder in the tool, it's super easy. You can just come up to the top. Hit, set reminder, hit custom. So you can pick anytime you want or you can, you know, a week before, two weeks before of the specific due date. But. But I'm just going to do a custom reminder because I want to get reminded about this plan, this purpose plan monthly. And I'm going to do it. I'm going to go all the way to the end of the year. Oh, my gosh, it's so weird to think about 2024. All right, there we go. On the 31st of December. And I'm going to get. I'm going to get noticed about this at 7am let's save that. So on the 31st of every month at 7am I'm gonna get this purpose reminder. Okay? So the purpose reminder is to reconnect to my big Y and get excited about this incredible opportunity. This is all opportunities. This is how we end up taking it on. So in this we talked about, I'm going to connect to my big Y in my profile. I'm going to build in the joy, fun and excitement my system into my systems. Now when I say into my systems, I'm thinking about my rituals, routines and habits. So let me just write that out into my rituals, routines and habits. And when I think about rituals, routines and habits, I'm thinking about systems. It's just like a natural habit. So I'm going to command plus in here so I can give you a little bit more space. Right. And these are again, these are affirmations. Yes, exactly. So here we have big bring joy, fun and excitement. And then the last thing is I want to evaluate my own contribution mindset. Come back over and tap in. I'm going to tap into it. Right, we talked about that. And then we also talked about the big six, which is your opportunities, purpose. The, let's see. Opportunities, purpose. We have identity, we have interactions and success, what success looks like. And the other one, sorry, what was the last one? So opportunities, purpose, identity. There's one more at the tip of my tongue and it is. Let me see, let me see, let me see. Oh yeah, priorities. Like, I know what this one is. So these things are like kind of a really sweet little recipe for you. Okay. And then we also talked about that's gonna help you connect to it. You have your profile. These are things that you can re. Reconnect to. And then I think like, remember to. For each of these things we could come in and tap into, like, okay, well, what is bringing fun, joy and excitement. And I had this other operation spirit project. So like I could tap in and know that. And I can't copy one, one, one plan to another plan. But I am going to just show you this really quick so you can see that I had. If I come into family activities, these family activities for me. And you could take a screenshot of this and you can write them down, but I'll go through them really quick just so you can see. These are all the opportunities we have. Friends, family, loved ones, parties, whatever. And so we're in Asheville, North Carolina. So there's things that we can do here like, that are really fun. Biltmore Arboretum. Like going to the arboretum, working in Roblox Studios. So me and my son were building video games and we're able to like build these cool environments. Super fun. We could hike, we could walk, we could do soccer, we could do workouts, we could do games. Basketball, foursquare bowling, rock climbing, snowboarding and skiing. Hot summer, spring. I'm a huge fan of hot springs. Can't wait to go to Durango and get back into the hot springs. But these are all things that you can do. And those things would actually reconnect to. If I come back up to my purpose. Those are things that I could do that Would help me bring joy, fun and excitement. Help me connect to my greater purpose. Like to have a happy fulfilled life with my family. Keep building up my career, help building up Growth day, help building up the people around me. Success, breed success. Like helping people win is going to help help us all win. So this is something else that I'm just super passionate about. So this is a really quick example of how you can create a plan and how to get super intentional about how to go after it and get out, get after it as an individual and just build in this part as a discipline. So every month I'm going to connect to this at 7am on the 31st of the month and it's going to reignite and make sure that I'm not taking these things for granted and I'm going to get and have a good time with it. So I'm going to come back to you all and I'm stop sharing Hope this is super helpful so far. Let's see here. Da da da. Yes. You can't link from one plan to another plan at the moment but that's an interesting thing. I think I would ask like how would you expect that to work and what would that look like? If you want to share that in like a feedback, we actually take in all the feedback goes through our kind of our, our reflection engine and then we look at you know, the different ideas and concepts and things that you all are providing us. So please feel free to share that. Alright, so what I want to do now is I want to share some tactics that you can use and these are kind of like, kind of tailored to the design and product industry. But I think it's relevant for you on like, you know, whether or not you're a product designer and if you want to actually share what your title is or what your role is in your, in your career or if you're retired you can share what you're doing. I think it would be really interesting to see like and also for you to see other people in the group and what they do. Like so I'm a product and design leader and like what do you do for a living and what kind of, you know, what kind of ways do you currently like reflect to be able to connect to your purpose. So let's see here. So build Claire. Let's just see here. So one big giant thing that you can do to help connect to your purpose. One tactic is you can journal more, like a lot more. I'm talking like make journaling a daily activity and make it a Make it a practice that you take pretty, you take seriously. Like, I'm gonna go in and journal every day. Like, this could be a self rule that you make. And the purpose of that self reflection is to make sure that you're in tuned and connected with your thoughts, feelings and emotions. You know, oftentimes we're taught to not express our emotions or taught to not share our emotions. But sharing your emotions and putting them on paper or on inside of a journal is help releasing a lot of that tension. It's helping you also get clarity around, you know, why you might be feeling a certain thing and what is the next best action that you can take around those things. So journaling is a big, very powerful thing. It would change your life, doing it over and over and over on a daily basis. Like, I've been journaling now every day for years and it feels so good to know how I feel and to be able to express my feelings. Sometimes it's also hard to express your feelings with other people because you're not used to putting it in words and you're not used to tapping into that. So as you journal more, you'll find that it'll actually be easier for you to articulate your feelings, thoughts, feel, feeling thoughts, feelings, emotions with your loved ones, your partner, you're in your relationship. So I think that's another thing that could serve you over long term. Kathy was sharing, oh, that's cool. You own a manifest. That's, that's awesome. So if anybody else is open to sharing what they do, because even as like a leader, right, you want to help your teams, you want to help your teams connect to purpose so that they feel inspired and motivated to do the work, to do the things that they do at your company, right? So having development plans and helping them grow and helping them feel motivated and excited about it, it's another thing that is super important. So another, another tactic that I want to share with you is I want you to write a story, like a short story, maybe, you know, four to five sentences about what motivates you and drive you. So this is like some homework I want to give you. I want you to think about, like what motivates and excites you. Write a short story and try to put that in your journal or in your notes over here on the sidebar and think about, wow, if I was going to express what motivates me and what excites me, how would I do that? Then after you do that, you can connect that back to your big why inside your growth Profile inside of the Growth day app. That's your homework. Go do it. See how, see how it makes you feel. See if it makes you excited. Short story about what motivates you and drives you. Tactic number three is kind of getting really in touch with your ways. Like affirmations. Like even today, you know, Brennan in the, in the daily fire was talking about affirmations. I'm going to paste in some homework here. This is another thing that you can do. So writing out like five perspective points or triggers that you can think about and you can even write remind, like copy and paste these and put them in your notes and you can put those as reminders. So every day at a certain period of time, you get a reminder about one of these things. So the first one that I typically say, because this is something I've trained my mind to think about is like, okay, if I was a high performance coach, which I am, I'm a certified high performance coach, a chpc. So if you don't know what that is, you can go to growthday.comchpc we are doing more enrollments for the next upcoming sessions. If you wanted to become a certified high performance coach. And so something that I always, these are ones that I write to myself on a regular basis. So first one, stick to the plan, Drew, stick to the plan. If I stick to the plan, well, first I'd be like, do I even have a plan? And heck yes, I have a plan. I'm a planner. I like planning things. I run product and design. I have to plan so that everybody knows the next five to 10 moves for every given project at any given time. And I tend to do that for, you know, other things that I'm doing in my life as well. Doesn't mean I'm like obsessed with plans, but I need a guided structure to help navigate the energy of these high performing people and even my family. I need to help them have clear clarity on what's the next step forward. Yes. Awesome. Number two, remember why you're doing this. Remember why you're doing this. I think a lot of times we get caught up in the mojo of the world and there's a lot of distractions, a lot of things that pull our attention away. I need the constant reminder to remember why I'm doing what I'm doing because that helps me connect to my greater purpose and gets me motivated, gets me excited. Let's go. It's just so important. And again, if you have any questions too, because we're heading into the, the last 10 minutes, of the session. If you have any questions, if you have any things that you want to get educated on in the product, I'd be happy to show you in the last 10 minutes. No problem. Feel free to. Feel free to add your questions in the chat. Or. Or you can raise your hand. The next one is kind of more around that contribution mindset, which is thinking about who needs me on my A game today, which is another thing that Brennan typically says quite a bit. What is one and two? One and two of the tactics? Oh, the first tactic. Sorry. The first tactic was kind of what we were talking about earlier, which is connecting to that big six. The big six, which is what we are. We did a plant that plan on. So here. I'll come back over to my journal. I'm sorry, I'll come back over into my plan, and I'll just paste this over to you. Okay, one second. I'm just copying it and pasting it for you in the chat. Just a second. Thank you for your patience. It's copying over some other things that I didn't want in there. All right, so that was kind of like the first. The first tactic that we did was just reconnecting to the big six so that you can have clarity around what your purpose is. That was like, kind of number one tactic. Number two tactic was writing a short story. Sorry, I didn't put it in the chat. Here we go. Write a short story about what motivates you and drive you through three to five sentences. Share it with a friend. You can share with me. You know, just getting in there and getting a story like, oh, what could I write? What could it be? Let's go. Let's get it. That's. That's another tactic for you. And then this last one was just kind of building in affirmations into your. Into your repertoire, like, who needs me on my A game? Brennan says that all the time because it helps you. It helps you reconnect to having a sense of contribution and accountability for the people you want to support. I do this a lot for my team. Like, so usually always. Sometimes it needs to be. I need to be on my A game for myself. I need to be on the A game for my son. I need to be a game for my team. Sometimes I even put Brendan in there and, like, I need to be on my A game for Brendan so that we are, you know, stepping up and helping him run a great company. Like, run, run it, want it, Run it Smooth Run a smooth operation. That's highly effective. Another thing, like I want to bring joy and I want to bring joy today in the things that I do. I want to prepare, I want to make my neck like, what are my next five needle moving things that I can do? Who could I show a sense of appreciating to? Who should I do an audio text to? Who could I do a little text message to show some love? And then what would be the next level user experience be? So I have a, I have a coaching for product and design teams around. It's called Next Level ux. So what. How do I want to show up and build a next level user experience for my team, for my, for the products and things that I serve and for the people that I coach? So how could that, what did that look like? So you could set reminders in the app for all these things pretty easily. Just go to the plan tool, hit set reminder, put in the text set when you want to get reminded of, it's going to send you a push notification and then you're good to go and getting after it. Cool. Do I have an outline for this class? I am trying to follow these concepts during the training. In other words, I'm looking for a structure for my notes. Ah, so for your notes, you could, you could, I mean, you could copy and paste if you want to scroll up through the notes and copy these things down. But overall, let me see if I, I mean, I do have, I mean I pasted everything so far in the chat. I pasted my like big, my big Y, which was the first training part. The second one was building in the joy, fun and excitement. The third thing was. Oh, tapping into a contribution mindset. So those are the three big takeaways for today. And if you need me to quickly write those things out, I could just write them out. But are there any questions, other questions that you have for. For today? We have about eight minutes left, so we have plenty of time for any other additional questions. Yeah. Take your time, Fury. So again, number one, connect to the big why today? It's going to help with your purpose. Somebody else places some notes which is thankful. Thankful, Thankful. Thank you. Okay, great. The second one was thinking about how you build in fun, joy and excitement. That's going to help you also stay connected to your purpose. The third thing that's going to help you stay connected to your purpose is having a contribution mindset. Thinking about how you support the people around you, support your teams. Have a good time doing it. Remember all this stuff that we get to do, it should be fun, it should be exciting. It should be motivating, like things that you actually enjoy doing. From showing up to work, to showing up for your family, to showing up for yourself. Let's integrate the fun, build really quality systems. And quality systems, like I was saying earlier, means what are your rituals, what are your routines and what are your habits that are going to help you sustain a purpose driven life that suits you, that feels good, that serves you, that does the things that you want to do? So when you tap in and you check in, you know what you need to do, you know when you need to do it, and you have a really solid clarity for how you're showing up to the day. So after this session, we. Let's really tap in, let's tap into this. What are we going to all do to kind of do that? Can you have things you care about within? Absolutely. You can have things that you care about within. You can architect this any which way you want. Oh, can you without. Can't you have things you care about without purpose? Absolutely. Absolutely. Totally. You can, you can, you can architect this anyway. Anyway, which way you want. And that's, that's the beauty of personal development. Like, we all need to find the, the pathways that work best for us. You can absolutely do that. Sorry. It's okay. I read it. I'm like, with. You can have it with. Yeah, without, but you can have it without. Like, that's, that's the thing I was saying this earlier in the call is that Growth day is designed to be agnostic, meaning you don't have to follow like A to Z certain way of doing things. I'm just giving you a little bit of a framework in case you need the guidance to how to tap in and get after it. But you can do it any which way. You can take all of this, you can take none of this. But the thing is, you're here showing up today, which is incredible. You're going to take that next step. So as we like, kind of step in to our rest of our day, you know, you're gonna think about like, all right, today Drew was talking about purpose. He was talking about different ways to do it inside the app. When I step out and I go reconnect with the things that I need to do for the day, how am I gonna bring a little bit of fun, excitement and joy into this moment? How am I gonna connect to, like, what's my. Why, like, why do I do what I do? Like, I want to. And I gave you examples of that earlier in the chat. If you need me to Repaste that. I can do that as well. Let me. Let me actually just get you. I'm going to repaste that for you, just to give you examples of different ways that you can look at it. And obviously, like, you do not have to follow. You do not have to follow. Like, these are mine. These are things that, like, fire me up. Like, okay, what are the big. Why? What things? Fire you up, get you motivated, get you excited, and then also, like, the last thing. How am I going to contribute this week? You can contribute. Start by contributing to yourself, which you are giving you. You're giving yourself the gift of growth by being here and, like, doing the work and just, like, you know, analyzing and evaluating what it could be. I think it's a beautiful thing. So tap into that today. Go get it. Get some fun. Get after it. And yeah, y', all, I'm available for five more minutes, so if you. If you have any. If you have any further questions, I'd love to be there for you, support you, and just want to open it up for any more questions. Take your time. No rush. We could also, if you want to share something fun that you're going to get into for the rest of maybe this weekend or something that. That you're. That you're working through, something that's kind of going to help fire you up for your weekend, I can say I'm super excited. Jude has some more soccer games. He's. He was in a defense. My son, he was in a defensive role in soccer, and now he's transitioning to, like, a striker role, which is really fun to see, and he's just learning about the game of soccer. I was a baseball player. My wife was a soccer player. So learning a lot about soccer. And it's super fun, challenging sport. And it's also funny because it's raining really hard here and these guys still play in baseball. We would cancel practice if it was pouring down rain in soccer in North Carolina. They're pretty hardcore with soccer, so they're training in the rain and it's like, whoa. Like, it's. Let's go. It's pretty fun. Good, good, good. Thanks for sharing the notes, everybody. Appreciate you. Next week, what we're going to talk about is something that is also incredibly impactful to, you know, whether you're an owner, whether you're an ic, like an individual contributor in your company. We're going to talk about influence and courage together and talking about how we need to show a sense of. We might. Well, we do need to show A sense of influence. We do it a lot in product and design because we're sharing designs, we're sharing experiences all the time. And we need to have another level of prepared energy when we're showing new things to our teammates to get feedback, to help them know how to give feedback back to us. So I'll talk a little bit about feedback. I'll talk about communication excellence, how to build influence. Like we have some influence, like an influence formula, and not in a way where you influence people in a way that is destructive or not appropriate. It's like building influence and how to do that with your teams because you know you are stepping into a leadership role. You need to have a little bit more influence. And encourage is something that's incredibly important. Speaking up when you see something that not like, not good. Speaking up when you want to share your opinion and your thoughts and feelings. Having the courage to give feedback about difficult things. Having courage to take on new, big, bold challenges even though you don't know what to do, but you have the ability to go figure it out. Courage is going to be great. So we'll talk about that next week. I love it, love it, love it. Appreciate you all being here. We'll talk a little bit more about the app and going through, but please feel free if this is interesting to you, if this is helpful for you, and if you just like chilling and sitting back and listening as we went through this stuff, I would love to get your feedback. If you want to submit it to in the community or if you want to submit it through the feedback tool, just, I would love to hear your feedback about how we can make the product better, but also how I can make these growth groups better. And we're gonna show up for you every week, y'. All. And we have a couple more weeks to this program. So next week, influence encouraged. The week after that, we're gonna talk about tools, people, tactics, like how they all kind of intertwine and work together. Cause I like I told you, I worked in IT. I worked in tech for the last 15, 16, 17 years. So I have a lot to share about tools, people and tactics. Then the last week of this kind of series, I'm going to talk about reflection, which is, you know, your journal, your connection to your journal, and connection to how I like to reflect and how I like to use the app for reflection. It's gonna be fun. So we got three awesome weeks ahead of us. So let's go. Let's do it. March is gonna be super fun. And then we'll lead into April going and doing some conference stuff. It's gonna be super fun. I'll be on the road doing some keynotes and some talks in. In Salt Lake City and also in. Yeah, we'll see. We'll see how we. How we go with the Austin event for Griff Day. It's gonna be so much fun. All right, all right, you all, appreciate you. We'll see you in the next one later. Thank you so.
