Grow in your Product, Design, and Team Flow!

Drew Bridewell presents a short coaching-style talk on elevating team performance by building flow across people, process, and collaboration. He outlines a practical framework: map the people you engage with regularly, document their needs and common conversations, define plans and quality standards, set up knowledge transfer, and clarify collaboration and communication rhythms. He emphasizes creating weekly rhythms (Monday–Sunday rituals), consistent growth systems (intentions, priorities, joy, measurement), and homework to map teams, projects, priorities, and to journal takeaways to reduce uncertainty and improve clarity.

The first thing that if you're going to do anything with your team and start learning about how to elevate your team, I'm going to bring this in, see if it's bigger. All right, so what you're seeing here is just a concept or like a system that I want you to think about. Or maybe you can even take a screenshot or maybe actually inside your notes you can start thinking about, you can write down people and then you can write down all the people that you engage with on a regular flow based. So like your daily activities, your activities, your monthly activities, like that you do that are negotiable, that you need to to do every single time that you work with your team. Who are those people? And you can write down the people. Okay. Now in my case, like I'm thinking about the context of building teams and building services and products experiences. So it may or may not be relevant like this engineering, business. But I say if you work with a team, you're. You have different disciplines, right? Your responsibilities. What I do is think about all the people that you engage with on a daily basis basis. Business, engineering, design, product, content marketing. These are the people that I engage with every single day. Now, now what I want to do, I want you to think about the needs, the desires, the challenges, people that use every day with what are some cool things that you are consistently talking with them about, right? That's this basic understanding. I want you to think about what those things are. Then write all that down. You can note it, take notes and journal about it. Then sorry, it's been choppy. I'll work on that. Sorry about that. The second part of this is thinking about the process of what are the plans that you need in order to move your flow and get in flow routine. If you don't have good flow with your team, it might mean that you don't have optimized plans or you don't have a strategic plan to be able to tie everybody, all the things together. You might also need to think about in your process side of things like your craftsmanship and your craftsmanship can work for thinking about. Okay, you have a team of the things that you do. What's the quality bar? What's the quality of the things that you do with your team, the things that you do with yourself. Like what's the quality bar look like? What's the standard? Right? Think about your standard. Then it's the knowledge transfer. How do you pass information? How do you throw information back and forth between your team so that they have Clarity so that they feel confident about the decisions or the movement of whatever these are. This is helping flow. It's also helping something, what I call design energy. It's also helping you be able to think about, oh, all these people need these things. How am I going to create systems to be able to support them? How do you. Knowledge. What's your knowledge transfer look like then? The bottom three areas here at the bar, very bottom here is thinking about, well, okay, great, I know what my quality bar is. I know what plans I need to be able to get there. I have an ability to transfer information and knowledge so that I have clarity. How am I collaborating with my peers? How am I collaborating with my family? What does that look like? Am I treating my family different than I'm treating my coworkers? Am I treating my coworkers different than I treat my family? Maybe, but maybe there's a way that you can open up your collaborational mindset with your family, with your teams, so that you can be able to support them a little bit better. The same thing goes with communication. How are you, how well are you communicating on a daily, weekly, monthly basis with your peers, your team? How are you building clarity around the information that you're sharing and working through with your. With your, your group, your team? All of these things are so critical for when you intake information and milestones with you that you be in flow. Now the flow is something like critical for services. So out of all these things that we're doing and we have this nice flow of execution now, what we need is to have harmony and to build harmony, we need to get into a rhythmic state. And the rhythmic is like thinking about from a Monday through Sunday. What are your consistent meetings, what are your consistent rituals? What are your consistent habits that you're going to be focused on? Are you working on your, you know, you're getting feedback early in the week. You have your priorities for knowing what you need to do, what you need to execute. And you're working through that and your momentum, you're working towards clarity. You're getting to your Fridays, your Thursday, Friday, Saturdays, where you're feeling like you're accomplishing things, you're working towards things. We want to get you into harmony. So it feels so good to create, it feels so good to make advancements. And you're still working with your team in a positive way. So it's like supporting everybody and it's super fun and invigorating and exciting. And so we really want to be able to create that rhythm flow. If You've never done one of these before. This is as simple as going into your notes, writing out Monday through Sunday, writing out all the meetings that are consistently, like, really scrutinize and examine your calendar and think about, wow, how much stuff do I do I do on a regular basis? And am I preparing for those moments? Am I anticipating the things that I might need? Am I asking the question I need to ask so that I'm not just sitting in a body of uncertainty and not knowing what I need to do? I think those are really important things as well. All right, so on top of building harmony across building flow, we also need something. And the other thing is consistency, right? We're building growth systems. We gotta have be. We gotta build, like, consistency into our wavelength. And when I think about consistency, I'm thinking about just throughout the, like, kind of the Monday through Sunday work that we do, I'm thinking about what creates consistency is knowing your intention, having intention, understanding your priorities, understanding your purpose throughout the week, understanding what is joyful for you, how do you tap into joy? Also tapping into, what are you dedicated to right now so that you can be focused on the right things, how are you practicing those things? What are the outcomes you're looking for and working towards? And on top of those outcomes, like, how are you benchmarking success? How are you evaluating how things are going? We have life scores for that, but you can also do that. You can build custom ones for your team. And then how are you measuring success? What does success really look like? And then the second part of this consistency for me is thinking about, what am I playing? Like, how am I playing in my life? How am I adventuring? And then how am I getting back into the cycle of planning? Super important to be able to have your growth systems in check. And this is another growth system to really making sure that I'm tapping in. I know how to do these things on a regular basis. So as homework for this next session, I want to encourage you to think about how you might map out your team, how you might map out your projects, how you might map out your goals. I might map out your priorities and map out your growth. What are you doing from this for the next six months for your growth? What are you doing to really establish really great priorities, great quality? So that's like part one of the homework. Part two of the homework is thinking about. I want to encourage you to journal. If you could hear me today, I want you to journal about your top takeaways for today. Like, thinking about, like, why do notes matter. I want you to think about mapping out some of these things that we talked about so you can understand, like, how do I what does my team look like? What are my projects look like? What are my goals looking like? Like building out these things because the from all the teams that I've worked with and coached, it's like the misunderstanding of like in situations is demise of teams. But just asking more questions, even if it's your family building the confidence and the courage to ask difficult questions and to be able to ask those questions so that you can build more clarity and reduce that uncertainty that you might be feeling.
