Design with us - Episode 1 Breakdown along with show framework

Drew Bridewell walks through the three-part format for Design with us: research by screenshotting top Roblox games into Figma, brainstorm feature ideas like battle passes and open worlds, then write a one-page design brief with premise and timeline. He also covers the multi-camera setup and invites viewers to submit projects for Q&A.

Alright, now I want to show you an example of some of the things we'll do inside the show. So, for example, we have three cameras for design with us. First we have the camera that you're looking at right now, which is basically a screen capture. We have another camera where we get to see the individual, which is me on the show and if Jude's right here as well. And then the last thing is we have an aerial view where you can see what we're drawing and the material that's happening and inside the screen, which is, which is super fun. So what we're going to do first is we're going to look at the. For the first episode we might be shifting gears into like a drawing session when we're doing ideating. Or we might jump back over into for example, Figma file, where I'm taking screenshots of the game and doing more of an audit. So what I want to do first is I wanted to show you we're going to have, we're going to break up this episode into three parts. 1, 2, 3. The first thing that we're going to do is we're going to do a research phase where we're going to basically take a ton of screenshots. So this is an artboard. This is an artboard inside of Figma and this is an artboard. We're going to take screenshots of our top three games that we really are inspired by inside of Roblox. So this, this will be R1, R2, R3, and imagine this is a lot of screenshots. So I might have like 1, 2, 3, 4, 1, 2, 3 4. And then 1, 2, 3. And then I might have notes off of each of these as far as things that we like. And little boxes, little boxes, little box. And these little circles are just like notes if you example. So that's like stage one of the audit. Okay, so once we have this, it basically is going to help inform our next element, which is like we're going to do a quick ideation and brain storm. What the purpose of the second thing is is so we can actually start generating a lot of ideas. We did a research, we understand what we like, what we don't like and we are now going to shift over into, okay, well we want to have a battle pass, or we want to have a fun open world or we want some other elements. Like we want weapons and a point system. And the list could go on. I could come up with another 30 things that we want. And then basically what will end up happening is we'll have another episode where we'll stack, rank and prioritize these things and then we'll go and design them. The next thing that we'll have from this is a design brief. So the design brief is going to be more of like one sheet that's going to have a basic premise of what the show and episode is going to be about. So we'll have like a what it is. Like what is the game about? Why is it important? So what is the game important? What makes it stand out? What kind of new values and things is it going to add and how is it going to work? So like, what are the rules, the game? How is the game going to break the common mold? What is going to be interesting about it? And then the last thing that we'll do is basically try to create a basic timeline and our action steps, actions. So that's basically going to be like our design brief for this and this is going to help guide us throughout the whole project. And this is what's going to be as far as our opportunity for our first episode. So I hope you come and enjoy the episode and just follow along with us as we go. And if you have a project or game or an idea, you can definitely come and bring your project along. And maybe at the end, if there's time, we can do an open Q and A of your game or your idea or a project that you've been trying to get started on and we can help unblock you. So hope you enjoyed this little quick little a snapshot of what an episode might look like. They're just gonna be a lot longer and a lot more fun. Well, this was fun, but it's gonna be great to see you there and I'll see you next time. Alright, bye.
