Reflections your gateway to growth! 3 quick reflection practices you can start!

A ~1-hour Next Level UX training episode (excerpt/transcript) by Drew Bridewell focused on building a regular reflection practice as a route to personal and professional growth. Drew frames reflection as three actionable pillars — journaling (to notice and release emotions, capture accomplishments), redirection/recalibration (course-correct with empathy and intentionality), and celebrating wins (integrate accomplishments socially to sustain motivation). The session is positioned at the end of Q1 and references the Growth Day app and Next Level UX membership as tools to support these habits. Practical guidance includes doing reflection daily/weekly/monthly/quarterly and logging accomplishments to simplify year-end reviews.

Hey, what's up? Drew Bridewell here, and I just finished this new training about reflection and about the power of doing that through journaling, through redirecting and course correction, and of course, celebrating the wins. Now, I just released this episode and I want you to just reflect on it a little bit. I'm about to drop three major big tips that I just share with you, and I want you to go ahead and think about what you achieved this quarter. What did you achieve over the first three months of the new year? And I want to encourage you to get journaling a little bit more to get that reflection practice so that you're not doing it at the end of the year. So I hope you enjoy this quick little episode about reflection. Today's a full hour session. Oh, my gosh. I'm super pumped. I got a deck for you. I'm going to break down some things for you. Today is a special day too, because we're heading into the end of Q1. You know, whether you, however you slice your quarters and however you get, you know, however you break down your months for what you got to accomplish in your position and your role today is going to be a really good reminder of how important it is to reflect. Today's going to be a really important day for you because you're going to realize that you probably accomplish way more than you're giving yourself credit for. You're probably going to say throughout this, like, wow, I might need to start writing down my accomplishments every month so that it doesn't feel so big of a task towards the end of the year. And you might be telling yourself, like, drew, when are you going to start? Let's get this thing going. And I'm going to be like, let's go. Let's get this thing going right now. So I'm going to share my screen and jump into this keynote. Let's go, peoples. All right. Welcome to today's 12th session of the next level UX training ecosystem. We are in Q1. We're finishing Q1 right here. And this is kind of like this really good foundation. The whole reason why we started at the beginning of the year with going through clarity and goals and action planning and practice. Then we shifted over into design energy, design clarity, design productivity, design impact. Can you say design any more times, Drew? Yes, I can. But we really focused on the internal ecosystems of what we do and how we do it and why we do it right? That's how we can become better professionals, better facilitators, better just creators in general, makers Then we went into this whole identity around, like, what's our purpose? How do we build influence and courage? How do we get more in touch with the tools we use, the people we interact with, and the tactics that are going to help set us up for success? And then finally, we're here. We're at the reflection pillar. The reflection pillar is also something that you're probably going to go through every single. You could probably go through a reflection period every single day. You could go through it every week, every month. In the Growth Day app. The app that you're actually viewing this in, you can go to Life scores. And the life scores actually allow you to give you a guided assessment and reflect around high performance habits, which is what tool is built around, which I definitely encourage. If you haven't ever done that, that's going to help you really, you know, if you're going to focus on any, any core habits that help you build a more holistic self. Those are definitely a really good, definitely really good high performance habits that you can follow. But also, like, in, in general, I want you to really become a master at reflection because it helps a lot unlock so many other opportunities. And that is what we're going to talk about today because it's going to lead to establishing and helping you celebrate your wins, helping you accelerate your accomplishments and help you just get fired up today and just, you know, for the rest of your career. Because why not? Why not? Right? Let's go. Let's get into this. All right, so I'm fired up, man. It's so much fun to think about all the things we've accomplished this year already and all the things that we are still going to be accomplishing over the, you know, over the, the rest of the year. So the vision and outcome, right? We're trying to unlock a higher level of design maturity and awareness to tap into our limitless potential and success in our most meaningful pursuit. So all the things that you want to achieve this year, all the things you, you've already achieved up to this year, all the things you prepared for to kick off this year with success, those are, you know, those are a manifestation of your work, of what you've done in the past, how you prepared yourself, how you set yourself up for success, right? We're gonna keep growing in our design product maturity. We're to keep growing in our awareness of how we can be more impactful in the things that we do. But you know what? We gotta do the work. We gotta show up, we gotta do the work. And you're all doing it today for being here. Spending an hour out of your day means so much to me. One, I like being around you. But two, because this is where the rubber meets the road. You're putting in the time, effort, and dedication to become your best self. And without that mindset to do this, you could go do all this stuff by yourself. But why not do it with a team, with somebody that wants to support you, with a whole group that's going to support you long term. So just want to appreciate you for being here. Let's just dive right into this. Three core ideas. And you might already know this. You might be like, this is so common sense, Drew. Of course I need to journal. But you gotta say, like, journaling wasn't necessarily a thing that I really thought about growing. Growing up, I definitely didn't think about journaling. I know, I know. Like, you know, people would be like, I'm gonna get you a journal and you can write about it. And I thought it was good, but I use my journals for sketchbooks. I wasn't writing stories or narratives or reflections inside my journal. I was writing pictures and drawing things and designing systems. So this is one thing we're going to tap in today. But not just any journal. We're going to talk about, like, how to get the most out of your journal. You could even be going to your journal right now inside the Growth Day app and looking at this while we, while we talk about this. You can still see it in the little mini player. So you get familiar with what a high performance journal looks like. And you can click all the prompts down below to get those prompts. So we'll talk more about that in a second. The other thing we need to be able to get really good at redirection and recalibration. Redirection is like, hey, you got, you got five things you learned this week. Maybe at the end of Friday, you're learning something. How are you course correcting? How are you moving towards the next most meaningful action? With clarity, with focus, with a little oomph, with a little confidence, with a little courage. How are you doing that? So you got to be able to redirect. Recalibration is like, wow, there's some issues right now. There's some problems right now. There's some things that we really need to kind of figure out. You got to recalibrate that. A lot of companies call these calibrations when they're doing performance reviews. And since today we're going to like, have that kind of. That really that, that mindset that, you know, it, it is end of Q1. Let's do a little calibration of how we're doing. And sometimes we need to recalibrate, figure out a better way to do something, and that's completely fine. But you want to be able to have a, have a sense of how to do this successfully for yourself, for your team, for your family. Like, let's go, let's recalibrate. The other thing is, we gotta remember to integrate our wins and celebrate them. We do this every Friday at Growth Day. And I also want to just encourage you to think about when you do this with your family, when you do this with your friends, when you do this with anybody. Like, when do you celebrate things? Do you have a mechanism in your life that's going to, like, trigger you to go do this, to go celebrate? Because if you don't celebrate the wins and you're just going through life and you're just like, okay, I'm on to the next thing. On to the next thing. On the next thing, you're going to forget the love and the joy of why you do what you do. Why do you go on these amazing adventures? Why do you build these amazing products? What kind of feelings do you have when you go through these things? Celebrate that stuff. Let's go. We're going to do that today. So for journaling, we are reflecting and releasing tension, emotions, expressing our feelings and expressing what we're seeing, doing and acting on. If we can do this and we can write these things out before we actually go into reaction mode, it helps reduce the amount of stress that you have. It also helps you be able to vocalize your feelings to yourself. That way, when you're expressing that to your manager, to your boss, to your coach, to your wife, to your husband, to your partner, you have a very articulate way of expressing it versus the very first time you're saying something and then you're like, and it comes out this in a way that you didn't mean for it to come out because you never had thought about writing it out or talking about it or, you know, this can happen all the time. So thinking about how we reflect and how we release, super, super important number two, redirection and recalibration. Why do we do this? Because we need to acknowledge what's going on in our life. We need to bring in a little bit of empathy into this and really feel what our team needs, what we need, what our family needs. Like, we really want to understand what our needs, desires, emotions, Are. We want to acknowledge them, but it doesn't mean we got to react to them and let them take over us and feel super sad or feel super angry or feel super whatever. I mean, you could feel all those things. But we want to be able to acknowledge the thing that's happening around us. We want to be able to take it, look at it, observe it. Right, Observe it. And then be able to create a story of how we're going to move that story into a better direction or a better outcome or something that is positive or something that is beneficial to the outcome that you're shooting for. So we got to be able to do that. And then, last thing, we got to celebrate those wins, that, that growth, that commitment, that commitment that you're here, that growth, that you're on this path, this journey. There are going to be bumpy roads, There are going to be like, oh, my gosh, I can't believe this happened to me. There's still a lot of layoffs happening out there in industry, but you know what? Layoffs hit everybody. They come up when you least expect it. But that doesn't mean you give up. That doesn't mean you stop. It's just a way for the universe to be like, hey, this, this role, maybe not the right role for you. You get to go shoot for another role, something better, something bigger, something bolder, and we're going to support you and help you get there, too. Those things happen. But don't beat yourself up over it. If it ever happens to you, just know that, hey, you got a team to support you. You have people that believe in you and it is going to get better. The storm is going to roll by and we're going to move on. We're going to wake up tomorrow and get after it. That's the story of the game. So let's do it. So I hope this kind of like sets the tone for you, but think about the impact of each of these things. Right? We create journals because we want to create more awareness. Awareness equals maturity of thoughts, emotions and connections. Right? We can raise the maturity of this. And I'm sure you've heard of emotional intelligence, and emotional intelligence is really understanding the emotional state around you and knowing that you don't have to react to that, to those emotions, but you can be observant, you can acknowledge them, and then you know how to play in that game versus letting so many things change your energy because they're outside of your control. You have that control. And that awareness and journaling can actually lead to that awareness and raising of those maturity of the thoughts. I'm sure you, you know this, but it's just like, I just want to restate it so that you can recalibrate, right, and get back into this. So the other thing about redirection and recalibration is we want that intentionality booster and manifester. So when I say this, I'm thinking about that intentionality of, you know, the thinking, the preparation and understanding. Like, well, why are we needing to redirect? Why do we want to change the outcome? Because. Why? Because maybe this week was not good. Maybe this last month was terrible. Maybe this last year was not what you had desired and what you had wanted. Okay, That's a real honest conversation with yourself. And then, okay, well, let's recalibrate that. Let's change the course. Let's really think about what we're gonna need to do to accomplish what it is we want. And then as I go through today, I'm also gonna show you a very simple breakdown of a Q, like, of a Q1 breakdown when you're thinking about, okay, well, what am I going to do? Write about what did I accomplish? This. This quarter, I'm going to teach you a really simple framework of how to do that. And it's just going to, like, you just got to do it every. Every quarter or every. Could do it every month. You could do it every week. I do it every week because I'm writing the things that I'm accomplishing. That way, when I get to the end of the year, I have literally like 42 to 50, 50 times, probably seven or eight things that I can go through and just kind of bathe in those accomplishments and think about what it is I want to put into my status or my performance review at the end of the year. And it's just kind of like a habit that I just put into my process because A, I want to achieve more. I want to create a better environment for my family, just like you all do. I want to do that. So being able to document these things, I've just built practices around that. I'll share that with you today. Also, honor the rituals of celebrating the wins. Honor the camaraderie and the impact that that creates from having that with your team and your family and your friends, like the camaraderie of celebration. Because you don't want to celebrate alone. You want to celebrate with other people, right? And then that pursuit, like, celebrate that pursuit. The pursuit is that journey that you're on right now. Growing, developing, getting better. At something pushing yourself a little bit more because you know you have a little bit more to give and you have that contribution mindset of how you're contributing and how you're. You're moving the needle for your family, for your friends, for your team. You actually know where you play. And having this kind of a sore. A core foundation of why reflection isn't so important because it has massive impact and it's something that you'll do again. Could be every day, every week, every month, every year. Right. We're just talking about simple reflection. So it might seem simple, but let's make it a common practice. So what's up everybody? Drew Bridewell here, y'. All. It's so good to be here. I'm so excited about this and you could probably hear it, my voice because like this is. We've done this now for almost like I think I had my three year anniversary with Next Level ux.
