You guys, I have Dr. Dr. Mindy, good friend. We just, like, literally we were doing a podcast for 30 minutes and the record button wasn't hit. So now we're back again. We talked about a lot of things. Primarily, we've gotten into the miracle of fasting and how it can radically transform your life when you do it. We've talked about the neurochemicals of fasting, what happens, and we talked about the spiritual components of fasting as well. So in this podcast, we're going to address it all. You may even start fasting right after you listen to this because you're going to be so pumped up. So let's get on with it. Dr. Mindy, hey, tell us, in the beginning, how did you get started with fasting in the first place?
Yeah. You know, my personal journey with it was looking for another solution to what was a crumbling health situation. And when I say crumbling, you know the way. I don't know if you feel like this, Drew, but I feel like I have a high standard for how I want to feel on a day to day basis. I don't want to be tired, right? I don't want to be tired. I don't want to have mental brain fog. I don't want to put my clothes on and not like how they feel. I don't want to sleep, have a bad night's sleep. Like, health is my number one priority in my life because I know that everything will be. Will blossom from that. So at 43, at 40, I really wanted to be in the best shape of my life. I thought at that point that was fitting into my skinny jeans and running 10 miles every Sunday.
You gotta have the skinny jeans for sure, right?
Yeah, the skinny jeans are absolutely a sign of health. Right.
So by 43, I was not sleeping, I was depressed, I was putting on weight, and I hadn't changed anything. And so I started exercising more, eating less, but not eating less often. This is another important thing. I just ate. I was still eating eight meals a day. I was just doing it less, less food. Nothing was working. And then Dr. Osumi's research came out, and his research was showing that in the absence of food, the cells turn on themselves and they start to repair themselves and make themselves stronger. And he won the Nobel Prize for Medicine and Physiology. This was in 2015. This was about 77 years ago. And from there, the intermittent fasting world really launched. And so I thought, well, let me give it a shot. And once I started intermittent fasting, every symptom I just told you completely Went away. And I felt like, you know. Did you ever see that movie Limitless with Bradley Cooper?
100%. Yeah.
He gets a pill and then he can like learn 12 languages and he knows how to predict the stock market. That's how I felt when I started fasting and I became obsessed.
Yeah, that's how I feel too. And I've used that analogy before. It is like the Limitless movie. I first learned about fasting from Paul Bragg.
Okay. Yeah.
Back in the day. One of the OG influencers, way back in the day, Paul and Patricia. So fasting absolutely changed my life too. We did a. I created a guide 11 years ago called the Alpha Reset. And it was a seven day cleanse. Walking people through the cleanse step by step. What to do, what to expect supplements to take during it, if you felt the cramps or the, you know, some of the things that can happen with fasting. We had 2.5 million people download this. We had transformations. Thousands of people sending before and after photos. The results were astounding. And I was like, there's a secret to this. Mother Nature has the answers. And when we give our body time to heal without being constantly bombarded. One of the analogies I like to use, and you'll. You probably use this, something like this is when you hire somebody to dig a ditch for you and you, they're out in your yard digging the ditch over and over and over again without giving them a break. How effective and efficient can they actually be? Yeah, when you tell them, hey, take a break, take 15 hours off and then come back, how much more effective can you be? That's our digestive system. Yeah, it's constantly working for most people. So like you've talked about with the glutamate, we've talked about a lot of the supplements already that we didn't record, but we're going to get into that. One of the things you mentioned that I love about fasting that makes you feel limitless was what we would call bdnf, Brain derived Nootropic Factor. Can you tell us a little bit more about that and how fasting actually helps create more of that?
Yeah. So I like to think of BDNF like Miracle Grow. You know, you sprinkle. Not that, you know, this group might be using a natural version of Miracle Gro, but, you know, when we put Miracle Gro on our plants, they grow unusually beautiful and big. Well, it's the same thing. That's what BDNF does is it's like Miracle Gro for new neurons in your brain. So there's only a handful of ways you can get bdnf. And fasting is one of the best ways you get it with exercise, for sure. But as we age, the neurons in our brain are degenerating, and this is where we become have more mental fog. This is where we stop remembering names. Right. And we find that as we age, we can't grab onto information as much. But I don't know about you, Drew. I found that the more I fast, the more my brain becomes like a sponge. Like, it can just grab information, it can hold onto it. It understands complex concepts at an easier level. And I swear that's because of all the BDNF that happens to me when I fast.
It's like high speed Internet versus dial up. And I see, I see this all the time. Like, people were walking around and it's literally like walking zombies out there.
Yeah.
And they don't even know it. They're using aging as an excuse to decay. And I believe man and women is, are always at their eternal zenith. Meaning we're always in that infinite perfection. Always. Age is actually what I believe is a mental disorder. So we don't have to age like most people do. We can age gracefully. We can age with more light coming out of our eyes. Our skin may change a little bit here and there, these physical forms may shift, but we don't have to go through the same things that most people go through when we give our bodies what they need. And fasting is, I believe, Mother Nature's miracle. Like I said, I think it's one of the greatest things we can do. Bdnf, Right. Brain derived nootropic factor. You can increase BDNF in your life with other ways as well. Do you have any ways that you. You like to increase BDNF, Dr. Mindy, as well?
Well, exercise is the best.
Specifically hiit training. Here's another actually interesting BDNF hack. Do you ever use BFR bands?
Yes.
So supposedly when you put BFR bands on and then you lift really heavy weights, the metabolites that happen from the breakdown of muscle, in order to build it stronger, the those metabolites will actually go and create more BDNF in the brain.
Wow, I had no idea.
Yeah, so where I learned that from is. Do you know Thomas DeLauer?
Of course.
Yeah, Thomas.
Good buddy.
Yeah. So we were geeking out on fasting and bdnf, and he told me that when he shoots a long day of YouTube videos, he does like 10 of them in a row. In between each video he'll put those bands on and he'll lift some weights and. And he's like, I don't do it for fitness. I do it for BDNF for the brain.
Wow, that's powerful. My buddy Kucha created a BFR company so he actually creates the bands and stuff like that. Really smart dude. He'd be great on your show as well.
Okay, awesome.
But super, super powerful BDNF exercise. Sitting in the sauna for me is a big thing. I've had a sunlight and sauna for 12 years. Beautiful. 30 minutes. I think the sauna hack is one of the best things you can do. I mix that with a cold plunge as well. So back and forth, getting the lymphatic system going wherever the is it ambionic fluid of the cell. Wherever there's more fluid, there's more electricity. So what I'm trying to do is increase my electrical current. So doing the sauna, skin brushing, even jumping on the trampoline, anything for the lymphatic system is also going to help BDNF. I believe I super dose magnesium too. 400 biochemical transactions in the body due to magnesium. Most people are deficient. Soil's deficient. So get a really high quality magnesium sop. I think that's going to help support even some of the nutraceuticals or the supplements that you're actually taking. Nad I inject or I do iv, which helps with BDNF as well. And also an NAD recycler, something that can help you help your body recycle more. NADH naturally will help with BDNF too. And it's in pure. By the way, our pure product, the organifi.
Oh, I love pure.
Actually has neurofactor, which increases BDNF at 206%.
Yeah, and I've been doing pure in my fasting window and it works great. I don't find that it spikes blood sugar.
Are you tracking that with levels or how are you tracking your blood sugar?
I had a CGM for a while, so that was the first place I tested it on. And then sometimes when I think when we first got it, I might have just did a keto mojo test. I like to test my blood sugar. Drink whatever you are curious about and then a half an hour later test it again. And what should happen is those two numbers should be very close. There shouldn't be a spike. And so I tested pure. I've tested glow I actually like putting Glow and Pure together. Those are my favorite.
Oh, interesting. I've never tried that.
Oh yeah. I put them together in my water bottle and then that's what I'm drinking all morning long in a fasted state. Because it works for me. Now I will tell you that, and I know you know this, that it's our microbiome that controls our blood sugar levels. So my microbiome profile could be different than somebody else's. Which is why I always say if you're gonna use something like Pure or Glow together, then you would wanna test your personal microbiome. And I like that test where you take a reading, drink the drink. Half an hour later, what's your blood.
Sugar doing long term? This is going to be very important. It doesn't matter how old you are, if you're 20 years old and you're listening to this, start increasing your BDNF. Now we think it's super important. Dr. Mindy and I, fasting can help with that as well. Fasting is like again, a miracle. I don't even know how long this is going to be up based on the current trend of like sharing truth. But if they, if the big brother finds us talking about fasting, they may delete this. So make sure you save it to your computer.
So check this out. I strongly agree with that statement. Because when you dive into the science on fasting, you start to see that you can take somebody, and I'm not recommending that people do this, but you could take somebody who's eating McDonald's for like two meals a day and you just say, hey, compress that eating into eight to 10 hours. And what they are finding is that those people, if they take their McDonald fast food eating, they compress it, they become metabolically immune from the changes, the damage that happens from a high fat, high sugar diet. So where I go with this is we've got a massive obesity problem, we have a diabetes problem.
What are you talking about? We don't have an obesity problem in America. No way.
Come on. We just gotta get everybody compressing their eating window and now their metabolic changes will be ridiculously good, which takes them off of all these medications that they're on. So to your point, Big Pharma's not gonna let that happen. Big food doesn't even want to let that happen. Because if you take a meal away, you know, that's profits. But as individuals, we can take control back by just compressing that eating window and making sure that we're not falling into Metabolic syndrome.
We control two things in our life. Number one, what we put in our mouth and number two, what we put in our mind so we could change the whole entire world. Not only what we put in our mouth, but the window of opportunity, right, the golden ratio, the window. So I think that's super important as well. I've done intermittent fasting, I've done the seven day. Seven days is actually my longest. I haven't done the crazy 30 day juice cleanse or anything like that. And it works really, really well for me. In fact I, back in the day when I first started FitLife TV, I would do one on one transformations with people that were sometimes 300, 350 pounds. Highly successful entrepreneurial men is who I was working with, targeted specifically because a lot of these men are super drivers, can tell them what to do. I understand their Myers Briggs, they're Colby index and they're going to do it. They're not going to let themselves down. Like they have something to prove, it's a man thing, they have something to prove. I'm going to get in the best shape of my life. Like you said, when you're 40, right? So I'd give them the seven day cleanse and without fail, they would not only transform their physical bodies, within a week people were losing 15 to 25 pounds. Some of these people, right? But they were redeveloping a relationship to food. And when we cleanse, when we develop a relationship to food, we realize what we're putting in our bodies is an extension of us.
And the greatest gift that you can give to yourself is to put high vibrational food, micronutrients, things that can impact you on a cellular level. So they started doing this. And the little wounded boys that were in, some of these men from the trauma from not having mom around, from the dad that was absent as a kid, they started to fill the void. They started to fill some of the chalice that's in the male form that's empty, right? The Holy Grail is empty when Jesus is drinking it. It's an analogy for can we be safe as men? Can we be whole and complete without needing anything in this world? And a lot of people use food for comfort. A lot of people use food to satiate and get those neurochemical hits, the dopamine hits. So when we can be empty, when we can empty the chalice as men and women on this planet, then we have an opportunity to receive the divine, which you and I talked a little bit about before this. And when we open up to divinity when we increase gaba, like you said, tell us a little bit about gaba so people can start making sense of this.
Yeah, yeah. Before I dive into gaba, I just want to make one comment on that. This is what I love about fasting is only you can do it for you. So I can take somebody who is like, I don't believe you. I could tell somebody that their body's a self healing piece of equipment. They could be like, yeah, I don't think so. Put them in a cabin, lock the door, come back three days later, and they're going to have a whole nother experience with their body. So I love it because it's such an intimate journey with your own body that you just don't get when you're eating food. So I love what you just said about men reconnecting to this part of them that's beautiful.
With gaba. What's so cool about fasting that I love just watching my community.
Experience the mental changes.
Because the ketones, right?
Yeah. I think what people think is the longer I go without food, the more stressful it will be. But actually the opposite happens. The longer you go without food. Your brilliant body is so well designed that it makes more ketones, it makes more bdnf. And when these two chemicals are going up, you're going to make more gaba. And gaba is calming. We even see, like, the research on a 48 hour fast shows that you create new dopamine receptor sites. So you actually start to create more availability for this incredible neurochemical that brings you joy. So you go into this supercharged state that you cannot get with food. But you're going to have to learn how to fast to get there. And the longer you fast, the more these, I call them, healing switches turn on and you will literally feel your brain and body change 100%.
And it's not for everybody, you guys. So don't listen to this podcast and think, I need to do this. It's for everybody. It definitely takes a little bit of a warrior spirit and it takes warming up to it. Right. If you've ever done test McCall, the medicine of the sweat lodge, like, it's not for everybody, but it will transform your life when you go through it. So going through even a day, like an intermittent fasting day, if you're not used to it, this is a huge celebration.
Yeah.
Because you're retraining yourself. You know, by the time we're 35 years old, 99% of what we do is a habit. So Maybe you're in the habit of eating multiple times a day, six, eight times a day, like you were taught. Maybe you're in the habit of having a traditional food pyramid where it says sugar and dairy are actually on the pyramid. Right? Yeah, Wheat. Like we've been. We have things so ass backwards.
Yes, we do.
So when we really start to allow our bodies to heal, when we give it the space that it needs and we increase more ketones, we get that brilliant brain working. We're able to solve things. And one of the things I love about fasting the most, I'm able to look at what's really consuming me. What does it mean to be a consumer? What am I putting in my mind? What am I putting in my body? I have a love affair for the little boy inside of me. I have a love affair for all aspects of Drew, the multidimensional Drew. Love that when you're holding yourself in that space, you don't need anything from the world. You can be in the world, but not of the world. Right. So getting into that fasted state, super powerful. And like you said before, you're increasing GABA in your body. And I believe GABA is the more GABA we have, the easier it is to see beyond the veil of this 3D experience.
Yeah. And we talked about before, which I think is such an important part point, when we're eating the wrong foods, you're stimulating glutamate. And glutamate is excitatory. So when you're in that excitatory state, I call it locked and loaded. Like you are ready to argue with somebody, you're ready to be anxious, your brain is ready for misery. And then you put somebody's smartphone in their hand and you go to Instagram, Facebook, and you see something you don't like. And now your whole emotional system has been set up to be a miserable person. But, okay, so we talked a little bit about getting the phone out of your hand, taking a break. But why don't we do the opposite and not create glutamate? Why don't we create gaba? And when we create gaba, literally, you can go to your phone and have no reaction to what's going on there. You can be in a discussion with somebody that maybe thinks completely different than you, and you're just not reacting because you're not locked and loaded. Your brain is calm and clear and compassionate. And that is where I think we need to move the whole world to is let's change our neurochemical balance. And with fasting we can do it. It doesn't take time, and it doesn't take money. So we can give it to the busiest CEO, and he can create Gaba, and we can give it to the school teacher who's working her fanny off and eating fast food all the time. We can get her to compress her eating window. And now she's got Gaba. It is the most amazing tool I have ever seen.
Well, because Gaba's. It's almost like from what I feel when my Gaba's high is, I feel like I'm more in my heart. Right. And the longest journey we'll ever take is from our mind, and it's 17 inches into our heart. And I think ascension isn't leaving our body. Ascension's coming back into our heart. And these leaders, these wounded boys that are leaders, if they could just come into their hearts and realize that, hey, maybe $5 billion is enough. Maybe you don't need 50 billion. Right? Maybe that's the first step. Maybe we can give more to the rest of the planet. Maybe when we take things from Mother Earth or we do a monocrop that's 150,000 acres, we can actually reconsider that and we can give back to the Earth in a bigger way. I believe Gaba could literally change the face of the planet because it puts us in our heart. And when we're in our heart, we get access to the superpowers that we have. Like, we become more psychic, we become more telepathic. All these hidden gifts that are broken DNAs just sitting there, waiting to be aligned, could be solved through fasting and recognizing what we truly are. And I think it's beautiful.
Yeah. You actually just had me thinking about food in sort of a unique way. You know, I do believe we're starting to see the downside, hopefully. I know your listeners are of social media and how it manipulates the brain, but are you looking at your food and realizing that your food is manipulating your brain? So you have to decide, just like on my Instagram feed, if you say anything negative, I get rid of you off my feed because I don't want to go to my feed and hear you complain about something. I want happiness there. Well, it's the same thing when we're eating the wrong foods is that you're manipulating the brain into anger and depression and anxiety. And as you're starting to change your food behavior is when you tack on a fasting lifestyle, you start fasting more, you repair the microbiome that's been damaged by all the bad eating, you up regulate GABA and bdnf and you start to repair cells that have been injured by this horrible life that we call, you know, that we call everyday food you find in Safeway, which is ridiculous. We should be. We need to have a tool to overcome the damage that Big Pharma and Big Food is doing to us, because it's not setting the human race up for success.
Yeah, well, most people are controlled by what they're eating. Right. The microbiota creates 90% of the serotonin, which is the happy chemical that gets sent to the brain. Dopamine, same thing. It's all created in the microbiota. So if we could somehow do what we would call in chemistry, titrate, titration, when we have one thing and we mix it together with the other to create cohesion or balance, if we could have a food program. And this is something that the alpha reset actually helped people with back in the day. It's like, well, maybe instead of having real cheese, we swap it for something like into it that's satiating like cheese. Like an avocado. Right. Who doesn't love an avocado?
Right.
Or putting guacamole on more stuff versus the cheese. I like to call it guacanole. Right, yeah. So how can we have these simple food swaps that actually recreate the microbiota in the first place? And how can we look at blood sugar more effectively? Because blood sugar's actually creating a lot of erratic mood cycles in people. They don't even know it. Maybe it's eating, maybe it's the intermittent fasting window, which is actually perfect. Or if that's too much to bear, maybe it's having more protein and fat in the morning versus a high carb diet or high processed food diet even worse. And then having your carbs at night, that can increase serotonin and help you sleep better. Maybe it's getting better sleep. People that sleep, right, they've done studies into this five, six hours of sleep. Normally when you sleep eight or nine, you add an extra 200 calories that your body needs the next day. So you're literally eating 600 more calories because you lost two or three hours of sleep. Like, that's crazy. That adds up so much over time.
Yeah, yeah. You know, the microbiome changes that happen with fasting are really profound. And I actually think that this is where we're going to start to see a lot of information coming out. Because when I look at the science, the new Studies, this is what they're saying. And what they find is that when you fast, there is a change in the microbiome on many different levels. And then what you break your fast with really makes a difference, because it's almost like you've created an environment where the good bacteria can thrive. So now go ahead and break it with an avocado. To your point with, I love doing avocado with some sauerkraut on it. Sprinkle some hemp seeds, and you've now fed these good bacteria so that they can grow bigger. Now, if you do that every day, you rebalance the microbiome through fasting. You break your fast with a probiotic, prebiotic fiber, and you keep doing that. Over time, you will completely change your microbiome, which will bring your blood sugar levels down. And that is why I think what people are seeing is as they're playing with fasting, their behaviors around food are dramatically changing. They don't crave what they used to crave. And that's really coming from a change in the microbiome.
Yeah. And when you change your microbiome, not only craving nutritionally, you guys, like, you have to think of craving in different aspects of your life as well. There's emotional patterns that sabotage us in our life that we crave. Right. There's toxic relationships that we crave. There's wounding from the past that you crave because it's serving a purpose, it's serving a point. It's keeping you in victimhood. So when you remove the veil, when you literally fast seven days, you start to see what's consuming you. What are you craving? And how is the craving related to something that's not even related to food? And then you open up Pandora's box, and then you become one with the unified field. Then you're able to project your consciousness and see things that you could never even imagine. And then it just. It goes on from there, but it really takes the first step, and it's so powerful. So, Dr. Mindy, I love that we're talking about fasting, and we're doing a little bit of the spiritual aspects as well, because I think people need to hear that.
You know, the other thing, I just want to. Before we move off the microbiome, I want to point out, again, I've been playing with. What do you have in your fasting window that makes fasting a little bit easier? And this is where we can look at the microbiome and have a new level of respect for it in the sense that it Literally controls our food choices. So for example, like we know that there are bacteria that make us crave chocolate. We know things like candida make us crave, like a fungus that makes us crave sugar. So how do we, when we're fasting and we know that we are trying to make this change in the microbiome so we crave different foods. What if we just fed those bacteria in the eating window? And this is where I've played with balance and I'll just put balance in water and just drink it and all of a sudden your hunger goes away. It's crazy. Or I'll break my fast and do a ton of sauerkraut and then the next day I find I'm not really hungry that much. So it's really interesting how the changes in the microbiome not just change everything else you say, but they change our whole relationship with food.
Yeah, it's the inner outer world. Every one of your microbiota has everything that exists in your physical body.
Yep.
So when you feed your microbiota, you're feeding trillions of cells that can actually take you to the next level. Like you are literally those cells walking around a full body in like seven years. Bones, tissues, cells, new eyes, new hair, everything. So what you're feeding it today is the future you. Yeah. And would you feed. What would you feed? A million dollar racehorse? Most people are putting Coca Cola in the gas tank of their BMW. Right. And they love it. They're, they're investing all these money in cars, houses and other things to make them look good in the external world. But they're tearing down their bodies, their inner world. Your inner world is a reflection of your outer world. One thing that I saw in working with these high end transformation clients, these men, and transforming them through doing the seven day cleanse and taking them through a 30 to 60 day program. Right. Is that not only did their life change health wise, but their business, some of them forex revenue, some of them were able to pick up new clientele that they just didn't even imagine before they became more creative, they had ideas and solutions, developing more products, writing more books, because they were able to fast and increase BDNF and increase their internal vibration. Like we are antennas, right? We are literally antennas floating through the universe. We have access to all the information in the world, but if we have junk in the trunk, if we have gunk, if we have artificial flavors, sweeteners, processed food, sugar, dairy, wheat, artificial colors, these things that are just dumped into our food supply, well, guess what happens to the antenna? It gets all gunked up. It's not able to receive the music of the universe, this music of the seven spheres. And when you open up to that, you have divine access. And that's what they're trying to block us with. That's the big play here. What can I inject in the human body? What can I feed to the human right through messages of electromagnetic interference? The Instagram feed, What am I feeding you? The Instagram, the drug. And when we break free from that, my friend, this is heaven on earth. It always has been, always will be, and it's here in the eternal now moment for us to claim. But it starts with you, and it starts with your damn microbiota.
It's so true. Yeah. And, you know, if you go back to just the concept around glutamate, glutamate's gonna make you operate more from the amygdala part of the brain. And the amygdala is constantly scanning your environment to see if you're safe. So when we're eating those bad foods, what you're doing is you're now operating from the amygdala, not the prefrontal cortex. And this is to your point, when we are walking around like zombies.
Interacting with each other from the amygdala, you can tell me something fearful and I'm gonna bite it, I'm gonna grab onto it, I'm gonna want to, you know, engage in that. So it's really about undoing that stress and getting glutamate to calm down coming from the prefrontal cortex. So we can just be more thoughtful, loving, intelligent humans and not be so reactive. And I've learned now that I understand the brain and microbiome and fasting, you can tell when you're talking to somebody what part of the brain they're operating from. And so then knowing that can give us compassion. But it also, you know, puts me in this place where I just want everybody to start taking eat better food fast more, so we can calm everybody's brain down. Because I don't think we're going to get the phones out of everybody's hands. And we definitely know that the messaging is going to stay fear based, because that's what sells. So we've got to change us on an individual level.
Yeah. And when we change individually, then we change the collective.
That's right.
So helping other people wake up to realize what they're putting in their body, which is why 11 years ago, I started shooting. I've shot over a thousand Videos. Right. And that's why I did it. It's because when we can wake up individually, we can wake up the collective. That's right. It starts with what we put in our body and the thoughts that we have. It's really that simple. So to, to basically get rid of the chatter of the mind. We can get rid of the chatter in the gut. So what is it that's causing those irrational spikes? Yeah, so supplements, other things that you can take to actually help with some of those cravings. I know magnesium is one of my favorite ones. Glycine is actually super powerful vitamin D. You know, the things that don't have to cost a lot of money can actually help you curve some of those erratic mood boosts as well. So what do you have to say about supplements and things to help impact your microbiota?
Yeah, I think there's three. Well, I'm going to say four major things you have to incorporate into your food. You can get them in supplements again. I mean, this is why I love your guys products, because it's such a highly concentrated. I look at it like food. I don't really look at it like a supplement. But here's the four. So the three Ps are the first three polyphenol foods, prebiotic foods, probiotic foods. These are your fibery foods. These are your seeds, hemp seeds, chia seeds. This is even chocolate. Back to magnesium. This is like dark chocolate. Those are going to be foods that will feed the microbiome and allow them to grow in a very positive way. Sauerkrauts. Kimchi.
Right. But people say I don't like it. And I'm like, well, eat it anyways because it's doing so much good for your gut. So we have to start by changing the way people are looking at those foods. And, and then the last category that I really think doesn't get enough PR are amino acids. And there's a lot of research showing that amino acid profile. If you have a complete amino acid profile in your gut, that microbiome will flourish more than somebody who has even half the amount of amino acids. So we can go back and look at amino acids as a way to feed these bacteria.
I love that I, I love the trace aminos that I get from Ben Greenfield. Keon has some really good ones. So taking those. Kimchi is my favorite. Like literally I eat kimchi every day. I add it to every plate. But in the beginning I didn't like it, you guys. It was something that was like, wow, this is weird, right?
Yeah.
But then I started listening to the trillion other voters that I have in my body, and they were all telling me, like, hey, this good for you, Drew. This is good for you. Imagine that a trillion individual. Even if people. A trillion people standing in front of you, like, telling you, hey, this is what we need to eat. Are you going to be selfish and not feed a trillion people what your body really needs? Right. Like, that's your micro, that's your mitochondria and celery. Celery is loaded with pre and probiotics. Jerusalem artichokes are great. Like, there's so much food out there that actually helps reinoculate our gut in a really powerful way. And if your gut is beyond repair and you have, like, autoimmune disorders, all kinds of stuff going on, I don't know if Dr. Mindy would agree with me, but I would seriously be interested in some type of fecal transplant.
Oh, the evidence on fecal transplant is crazy. It's just not everybody's willing to do it.
Well, it's expensive and it's weird. Like, a lot of people are like, oh, I'm going to put somebody else's poo inside this body. I don't know if I want to do that.
Yep.
But if literally, literally, people that do this, you guys, they start losing weight immediately. Like, imagine that, like, you get an athlete's poo, and then all of a sudden you're, you know, getting in the best shape of your life.
Yeah, Crazy. Crazy. So. Or, you know, the other thing you could do is you can hang around an athlete because they're even showing, like, households when you. That we share microbiome just through the air, through touch. So you could just hang around more people that have the microbiome profile that you would want to have. And this actually goes to another level, which is when you're hanging around people that are taking good care of their microbiome, their behaviors are going to become contagious for you as well. But families, it is absolutely proven, have very similar microbiome profiles. 100%. Yeah.
And you see them out in public, too. Right. You got the lean, in shape, healthy family that are probably making great decisions together. And then you see other families that are just. They've. They've lost their. They've lost communication with the most precious resource, and it's really sad.
Yes, agreed. And then to the fecal transplant, you know, I think you could simulate. I mean, there's some real strategies you can do to change your microbiome. And this is where I bring in fasting and what you break your fast with. So MIT research showed 24 hours of fasting will change, will upregulate intestinal stem cells. So these stem cells will go in and repair any damage from the bad eating that perhaps you did. So throw a 24 hour fast in once a week, once every couple of weeks, and then break that fast with those foods. I just Talked about the three Ps and the Amino acids and now you're making a really significant shift in that change. The other thing I want to point out on the kimchi that's really interesting is they've noticed, you know, fast food has gone all over. Our fast food is all over the world right now. But when it went to Korea, they started sharing and serving their Big Macs with a side of kimchi. And they noticed that in Korea, they didn't have as bad of a metabolic reaction to fast food as.
Isn't that crazy?
Oh, my God, I love it. Yeah, I'm moving to Korea, you guys, just for kimchi.
The other thing about kimchi is the fermentation of green onions is actually a huge immune stimulator in fighting viruses. So if you're concerned about this virus, eat more kimchi.
Let's talk about viruses and health and all that good stuff. Fasting for anytime. I, literally anytime I feel like I could be coming down with something, I really start paying attention to my mitochondria, my microbiota. I do different things. Like, I got hit with the.
What are we gonna call it, you know, the code dash vid. I got hit with it.
I did too.
I did a. I didn't do a test because I don't believe in the nose things. Those things freaked me out. My intuition's like way too high to like be taking like that. Right. Like, don't put that towards my brain stem and everything else. So I realized when I got this because I did a metatron scan coming back from tulum. You know what a metatron scan is? Everybody needs one of these.
Yeah.
Literally two magnets you put on your head. It's Russian tech. When we raced, when America raced in the early 1900s towards biochemistry and using pharmaceuticals to heal symptoms, right. Not treating the root. Russia went off and said, we're going to study energy medicine. So for the same amount of time, we've been studying pharmacy, they've been studying energy medicine. So the metatron scans your whole entire field. It scans your body, it scans your tissue, every cell in your body. It told me I had Kodash vid And I'm like, okay, well, I feel great. I'm a little tired, right? And then for a day I was really tired. But I started treating my body differently. I fasted, started eating less, I took more NAD than normal. I did the zinc, I did the high dose vitamin C, I did high dose D. Right. And literally I did a homeopathy thing that my don told me to take too, which was like five homeopath energy medicine literally was gone in a day. I didn't experience any of the long stuff, Right? But it's. Fasting will help you be more in tune with what's really going on and you'll be able to heal things a lot quicker.
So you know what, the research on this virus and fasting, it's everywhere. When you go and you do like a PubMed search, which is this research should be on the front page of the news, but it's not. And here's the research. This particular virus shuts down autophagy in a cell, and that's part of how it starts to replicate. So if that virus comes into a cell that is already saturated with sugar, already inefficient at autophagy, it will go into that cell. And viruses do not have their own energy system, so it will live off the sugar without the presence of autophagy, and it will replicate like crazy. Now, if that same virus goes into a cell where somebody's fasting, they've already stimulated autophagy, then the virus can't shut down autophagy and it will actually be destroyed. And so the virus will not replicate. So I did the same thing, Drew. When I got it, I was like, yep, this is it. I got all the symptoms. I just fasted. And for me, it was like fasting vitamin C, vitamin D and nothing. It was like sneezing for a couple of days, low energy. Within five days, totally gone. And it was like nothing. It was not. I kept walking around going, we shut the world down for this. But the thing was, is I had a strategy. And the strategy involved knowing how to bring autophagy back. This is what we should be talking about. The whole world can learn to fast. The whole world can learn to stimulate autophagy. It is the best natural solution for this virus that I have ever seen.
Any virus.
Any virus. That's right, yes.
It doesn't matter like this. We could classify this with any other. Any other.
Good point. Good point.
We can still have compassion for the people that have lost people to this.
Agree.
Like our hearts are with you.
Agree. But we Also on. On that point, Drew, we only have 12% of Americans metabolically fit.
So you've got 12%.
12%.
So, obesity rate. The reason I started FitLife TV was because the childhood obesity was the first generation ever that kids were not going to live as long as their parents. This was of a lot 11 years ago. Now the obesity rate's like 40, 42%, something crazy.
So when you look at it, the virus is coming into these bodies that are saturated in sugar. They're gaining momentum, and they're just taking over the body. Whereas if we got everybody metabolically fit now, it would be like my reaction or your reaction. It would feel just like a common cold, and we'd all be on our way. But the thing that's making me so mad is we are not educating on metabolic health. That's where we need to be educating. Instead, we're trying to fear the virus, and we're down the absolute wrong path.
And all the money, the trillions of dollars or whatever these big deep pockets have, is all pumping into free donuts. Free this, free that, which is the opposite. Right. And you look at the obesity, you look at the hospitalization, it's the obese people. Yep, right. All of it. So how do we get more people metabolically fit? We do what we're doing right now. We share podcasts like this. We consume this information, and we actually implement it. Because a lot of people will listen to this and they won't take action.
Yep.
So what are three things they can do today, Dr. Mindy? To take action, to close this show out, to bring it home, and then let's tell them where they can find you.
Yeah, well, I, you know, I'm gonna say fast. Cause that is my passion, and everybody can do it. And the results are unbeliev.
So just start pushing your breakfast back an hour until you can get to about 13 to 15 hours of intermittent fasting, and you're on your way. I teach six different fasts. You can find all that on my YouTube channel. So the first step is compress that eating window. Let's get you fasting. The second step is we've got to get this standard American diet out of everybody's hands. So the bad oils, the refined carbohydrates, the toxic ingredients, the PUFAs, we gotta get that stuff out. And it's not that hard or expensive to make a lateral change. Just instead of having a piece of bread, have an apple, like, pick nature's carbs, start bringing the nature's food back into your Life.
Right? And then read ingredients. Like, if you pick up a label and you don't know how to pronounce something, like, put it back. Don't go into the center of your grocery store. Go around the outside. And better yet, go to your farmer's market. Like, let's start eating foods without labels on them.
I say, if you can't sing it, don't eat it. So try to turn the label into a song. And if you can't do it, then it's gone.
I love it. I love it. And then the last thing I think that we don't talk enough about are the bad oils. You know, mind your oils. Get off the canola, the cottonseed, the corn. If I came into your house and I just swapped out all your oils, you wouldn't even notice the taste. It would not even make a difference. Nothing.
Vegetable oil, too, guys. Most of the canola oils, genetically modified. You got to be real careful with oils, and oils will hold you hostage. Like, literally. It takes a couple months at least, I think, to get rid of the pufas in your body.
A long time. A grade. Agreed. So these are not expensive things. You compress your eating window, you make some lateral changes with your diet, and now you're on your way. I mean, the only other thing I would say for this particular virus that is proving to be so important is vitamin D. But your vitamin D levels, your body will use vitamin D to detox. So if your vitamin D is really low and you're supplementing and you're not able to get it up, you gotta look at your toxic load, because your body's using that to methylate. It's using that to create a detox reaction. But the changes we need to make to get out of this situation are not expensive. They're not hard. We're just not talking. They're just not on your nightly news. They're on your podcast like this.
Yeah. And one thing I would add to that, too, guys, is radio frequencies. I'm a huge advocate of every house I've ever owned. I grid the entire place out. I'm a career guy with crystals, Shungite, like, different things to kind of bounce some of those hazardous EMFs and the different GGs so that I'm protected from that. I've seen people lose weight. I've seen people become metabolically healthier by just paying more attention to the frequencies that are all around us. You are an antenna. So fuel your body, right, with what Dr. Mindy said. Do those things, the vitamin D. But Also, shield your electric body, because we are electric beings. Love that. Yeah. That's all I would add. I think this has been a great show. Anything else you want to add?
No. My biggest message to people right now is don't live in fear that you were born in a miracle. And that body wants to work for you every moment of your day. And it's got this. It knows how to live in 20, 21 with all the chaos. You just got to give it the resources to do that.
Yeah. Get back to nature. Plant your feet in the grass. I sungaze every morning, 20 minutes. Like, there's things we can do that just because that's where most of the vitamin D we actually get is, from our eyes. So if you're not absorbing vitamin D too, I'll add this. It's because you're probably magnesium deficient, because magnesium helps convert the vitamin D in your body.
Oh, I love that.
So those are two things. Vitamin D is held in your liver, right? Most. Most people get seven months worth of vitamin D in a summer. They store it in their liver. So becoming more metabolically fit will actually have you access more and more of your genius miracle meat suit, as I like to call it.
I love that.
Yeah. So this is beautiful. Thank you for coming on. Dr. Mindy, check it out. I'll put her link in the show notes. You guys check out our courses. If you're interested in doing a fast, you can get it over there. We should do, like, a group fast together at some point.
Well, I'll tell you what I'm doing, Drew, that I would love your support on is I want to do in January an international fasting day where we get a million people fasting, and then we ask people that the meal they skip to donate it to their favorite charity. And we really bring attention to fasting. So I would love your support in. That would be great.
Great idea. I love it. Let's get a billion people to do it.
A billion would be amazing. I mean, literally, we could end the pandemic on this day if we could just teach everybody how to do this.
What pandemic?
That's right. Whatever you want to call it. That's exactly right.
Well, much love coming to you, my friend. This is our first time connecting, but I feel like I've known you forever.
Agree.
Thanks for having all the beautiful orchids in the background as well. My favorite flower. And remember, we're in this together.
We'll see you soon. Agreed.
