Drew Canole explains how wonder and gratitude rewire your brain for creativity and connection. He covers serotonin science, practical habits to shift your mindset, and why small radical actions compound into real change.
All right, my friend, welcome to another Drew and youn podcast. We are on a roll with these personal podcasts. Today we're talking about ways to increase your creativity, your personal connections, not only with other people, but ultimately with yourself, increasing your health, increasing your ability to relax, to feel good in your body. We're going to probably, if this is something that you implement, Now, most people won't because they just listen to this stuff in their cars and then they never do anything with it, which is kind of depressing because I've dedicated so much time and effort and resources putting all these together for you, but I'm not personally attached. Well, maybe I'm a little bit, but nonetheless, for the person out there that's listening to this that's going to take radical action and implement it in their life, see you. I acknowledge you. And if you choose to take this and implement it into your life, I will tell you it will change everything about your existence. And many of these are gonna be so simple, it's gonna hit you like, wow, I do that. I do this every day. But just that simple reframe is going to put you into a state of elation, a vibration of ecstasy, and you will be able to transmit that Now, maybe where you didn't see it before. So what are we talking about? You guys are like, Drew, get on with the point. What is today's show about? It's like a Christmas gift waiting to be unwrapped. And now I got it in front of you. It's been sitting there. So let's just open it up. Today we're talking about one of my favorite things, and that is seeing through the eyes of wonder. Wonder, wonder. Wonder goggles. I call them the wow goggles. What are they? Well, it's seeing your life likened to a game. You've heard me talk about this before, but so much so to where you see the magic. You see the little golden strings flying around you, the fairies, if you want to call them, or the, you know, the other mythical creatures. Now, obviously you don't see those because that would probably be Some people do, you know, they see these things and I've met with people that do, but most of us don't. I don't see those things. Sometimes I get glimpses of some stuff, but it's not in this physical reality, right? So this is going to allow you to just see so much joy in your life that maybe you were missing before. And when we witness that, it drops us into our heart. When we're in our hearts, we open up a whole world of compassion, a whole world of understanding. Our thoughts and emotion become connected to our true selves, not the identity or the persona that we think we are. And when we're in our hearts, it allows us to make more mindful decisions. And it allows us to choose timelines more effectively so we can take those positive steps. It creates a deepening of self-awareness, which leads to greater wisdom in your life. You will be the wisdom keeper, the patriarch, the monarch of your family. And by doing this, you will feel more connected to everything and everyone you come in contact with. So I'm going to get into 10 ways to see through the eyes of wonder even more. Maybe more. I'm just riffing today. I didn't know what I was going to talk about on this podcast today, but we are just rolling. The Holy Spirit is good, my friend. So we are moving and grooving. One of the things I wanted to tell you for all the science nerds out there like myself is, well, is there any research around this? Is there any research that says seeing through the eyes of wonder goggles can improve your life? And what is a marker for improving your life? I'd like to think those neurochemicals that we talk about, serotonin and dopamine, are some pretty significant markers in the brain that can show us that we're leading to improved mental health, but not only that, physical health. So I found a study by the University of North Carolina that engaging in acts of gratitude slash wonder, because I'm gonna show you how they parallel with each other, can lead to 25% increase in serotonin levels. Now, as you know, this Sarah wakes us up in the morning. It's that positive, happy hormone that gives us contentment. It gives us the feelings of happiness. So many happy people, right? What if everybody was happy? What if everybody experienced a 25% lift in serotonin right now? Take a deep breath. How much better would your life be if it was a quarter? better than it is in this moment. It's pretty significant. It doesn't sound like a lot, 25%, but 25% rosy colored glasses casted at everything you do throughout the day. How would that change you in every moment? You're listening to your kids. You're in, you know, maybe you're stressed out about work while you're listening to your kids. You had a 25% jump. What would that do? Wow. Maybe they would feel a lot more understood. closer to you, connected to you. Maybe some of the walls that they've had up for a while would just fall down because they feel the serotonin. Human beings are feeling, feeling beings. Human, we are light beings. Serotonin, I believe, impacts our light body just as well. It opens up pathways and energetic things in the metaphysical realm. So if you're emitting a brighter frequency, well, then they're going to be able to connect to that. And children are just so pure as it is. I'm constantly reminding myself, how can I see through the eyes of a child? How can I see through the eyes of a child? As if it's the first time and the last time I'll ever see this person in my life. I'll ever witness what I'm witnessing now. I'll ever see the sunrise or the sunset. Thank you, thank you, thank you. When we live this way, It opens up portals of possibility, let me tell you. So that study in the University of North Carolina also found that gratitude induced activities had an effect on direct health, improvements in hypertension, reduced stress levels, improved sleep quality, and even faster healing from physical wounds. Imagine that. You can become Wolverine just by having wonder goggles and being grateful. Wow, wow, wow, wow. How many times can you say wow throughout the day? I know a lot of, I know a few of you are pretty resistant to this that like, screw this, my life sucks. I could never do that. But just let a little sliver of this in, my friend, and your life will change. I like to say, if you don't want your life to change, then don't listen to this podcast. Don't hang out with me because all's it takes is a little glimmer of light. to enter your heart. And 12 months from now, you're not even going to recognize yourself, nor will anybody else that you've ever met. You will be a different human being. You'll probably look a lot different, too. I've had people message in and they're like, hey, I started following some of the diet information on, you know, and I don't believe in diets, by the way. I think diets die. I think people don't fail diets. Diets fail people. But they just start eating what's intuitively right for their body. and they'll lose 30, 40, 50 pounds. And I'm working on a program for this, by the way. So they'll lose 30 or 50 pounds, whatever it is. And they'll be walking by their parents that they haven't seen in six months, and they don't. Their parents don't even see them, which is wild. So you could have that, too, my friend. We've helped thousands of people through the power of even juicing vegetables way back in the day, 12 years ago, when we started our YouTube channel and had millions of people following that. and many videos on positive mindset, mind frame, changing, shifting, how to have positive thoughts. And this is the juice. So when we shift our mind, we can shift our reality. Imagine having better sleep. Imagine healing faster from physical wounds. Imagine just feeling at peace as you walk throughout the day. Wow. When I take a deep breath, I breathe out ahh, sometimes it feels like an internal massage. Ah, and it just feels so good. So do that often throughout the day. Relax. Stop taking your life so serious. It was never meant to be so serious. Life was never meant to be a struggle. This is easy. this is easy. When I say affirmations like that, it'd be good for you to repeat it unless you're in an office setting and you got a bunch of people around you, because that might be a little weird if you're talking to yourself. But you and I know that when we speak the word, the vibration is spoken across our life. This is easy. Well, then the big uni or the universe or God's ears, whatever. you want to look at, the divine hears it. And I believe it is implemented. So how can you implement more of that? My life is so easy. Thank you. Being in a constant state of gratitude through the wonder goggles. So it's so easy to get caught up in the humdrum of everyday life. But it's important to never lose your sense of curiosity and wonder. So here are a few ways to keep your spark alive. Number one, do this every single day. Commit to this. If you are committed to improving your life in a big way, then commit to this. This is huge. Put your hand on your heart. Say, I commit. It's not costing you anything. Actually, it is costing you. if you don't do this, if you don't change and start to see life through wonder, and many of you already are, so I'm not talking to you if you're already doing this, but that hypertension, those stress levels, your sleep will continue to diminish. It'll get worse and worse. I promise you it will get worse before it gets better because your other self is knocking on your door saying, Hey, wake up, wake up, wake up. Life is meant to be easy. I need you over here. You got to start seeing how great life is. Even in the most dire situation, we need you to see the positive. And that's the work. The work of understanding energy and rebalancing it in your own body. Universe, you inverse. Your physical body is literally flipped inside out. So everything you create in this reality ultimately comes from that. So it's taken the power back, and I know it's scary. A lot of people get scared with this stuff, but it's okay. We're in this together. So, number one, and this is great for me. Every morning I wake up, I read the Bible and I. I study scripture. And I also take a moment to pause and appreciate the world around me, appreciating the small details, like the sky. full of stars when I wake up in the morning or the beautiful sunset at night and really looking at it. You know how there's a difference between looking and seeing? I want you to see. Looking is just to look at something like, oh, that's cool. Oh, that's pretty. That's awesome. But seeing is wow. Seeing through wow goggles. So it's easy to get caught up But when you take a moment every day and throughout the day and the more you do this, this is meditation. People are like, how much do you meditate? Well, if you're literally seeing and not looking all day long, you are in meditation, my friend. You're gonna have unforeseen situations and circumstances pour out on your life because you are tuned in and you're exiting the matrix at this point. you'll see some wild stuff if you can just appreciate all the small details of life. I mean, literally go outside, look at a flower and bring yourself to such rapturous states to where you can get tears coming out of your eyes over a flower, over how beautiful your life is. That's just a symbol of your life. Everything's working out perfectly for you. Can you be in that? Can you integrate it back in your body? It's uncomfortable for a lot of people, but can you integrate that? Can you feel it? Can you be that space holder for love and ecstasy? And then, you know, it's like the meme that you see where somebody's cup is empty in their body. It shows like the water flowing in their body and it's empty, but they get a hug from a stranger and then their water dumps into the other person. I think that's a flawed concept because you're not actually getting rid of any of your water when you're living this way. You are full all the time. You know, we are water beings and you have energy coursing through and every once in a while you need to pick me up as well because we're just being human unless you're a Jedi master and you've already completed the human experience and you're back listening and doing everything again. But if you were that person, you're probably not listening to this podcast. You're probably in your own hermitage somewhere, living in the woods. Powerful stuff though. So open your eyes, take a moment. I know it's simple, but how deeply can you appreciate something? And then after you appreciate it, can you go into the house or wherever you are, maybe even around lunchtime, and just reflect at how much you appreciated that thing? What was the level of appreciation? and then do it again tomorrow. Continue to go deeper and deeper and deeper through the eyes of wonder. The deeper we go through the eyes of wonder, the more we connect to our heart. Next up, get uncomfortable. A lot of people have been doing the same thing every single day that has become kind of robotic. Try something new. Explore uncharted territory. You know, maybe it's as bold as going to the airport without a ticket and flying somewhere. Or maybe it's as simple as doing something different throughout your day. Even brushing your teeth with your left hand as opposed to your right. Or doing something small. And then pay attention to that. You will find that there's something new about yourself that you didn't know. Pay attention. Number three is seeking out inspiring people. We've got to surround ourselves with people who motivate us. who challenge us, encourage us, not only to chase our dreams, but also hang around people that make you uncomfortable, that are like, oh, I wanna hide in my turtle shell. This person is way too extroverted. This person has way too much success compared to where I am. But I feel like it's good for my soul to be around that. I need to witness this. Get uncomfortable. I've even told people, Hey, I need to hang out with you because you make me extremely uncomfortable. And I think that's good. I think it crashes or it crushes my ego, which is what I need more of in this moment. I need to be humbled. And I'm humbled by you. I'm humbled by your wisdom and your knowledge of this stuff. I'm humbled by your vernacular, by your ability to see things, to see people. I'm humbled by the love that you have. And I just want more of that in my life. So allow me to just be a fly on the wall or hang out or witness you in your workshops or whatever it is. and human beings are givers in my world and in your world. They want to help you. So tune into that. Get uncomfortable and seek out inspiring people that also make you uncomfortable. Living outside your comfort zone is a big thing, too. So every week, go on a stretch day. What is a stretch for me to do today? Well, I haven't given as many hugs this week as I want to, so. I'm gonna make it a point every single person I come in contact with today, I'm gonna give a hug. I'm at Target, I'm gonna be giving every person that talks to me a hug. I'm just gonna say, Hey, I'm in need of some hugs, complete strangers, bring it in, hug it out, get stretchy. And I know that sounds absolutely crazy for many people, but listen, your day will get better. You're gonna wake yourself up out of this dream and you're gonna be like, Wow, I should have been doing this all along. Live outside your comfort zone. Maybe you're at the coffee shop, buy the two or three people in line behind you coffee. Spark up a conversation with complete strangers. Wake yourself up out of this dream. And when we get outside our comfort zone, we can do that. Try different restaurants. Go to an unfamiliar route home. We do this all the time. My fiancé and I, and we look at beautiful landscapes. We go see real estate that we're not even looking for real estate, but we'll go vision board and like go into houses and stuff like that. We haven't done that one in a while, but that one's fun. So make sure you're doing these things as well. What can you do new to get outside your comfort zone? Next up, music. Music has a way of powerful to evoke emotion. and to inspire creative thought and to give you wonder. I can't tell you how many YouTube videos I've watched of even music from, you know, the early, early days of when music first began on YouTube. And I'll find inspiring drummers or hand pan artists or flautists, and I'll just watch with wonder and I'll put myself in the seat as if I'm in the room with these great musicians and masters that are playing these things, and I'll just have such Wonder Goggles. There was a video I watched recently of a hand pan drummer that completely blew me away. One of the most masterful musicians I've ever seen. And maybe I'll post that in the show notes. But I literally watched this 10 minute video in complete joy and awe of the noises that were coming off this gentleman's drum as he continued to beat and develop a rhythm that captivated the whole entire room of other musicians. And they just worked with such synchronicity. And if you've ever been a part of a drum circle, there is like this invisible energy that spreads that taps you into the current or the ripple of that vibration. And you can't help but become super telepathic in those moments and play exactly what needs to be played. And then when the viewer or the people that are watching it, they're like, wow, how did they do that? They must have practiced that a thousand times, but it's not. It's tuning in. It's seeing and not looking. It's having those wonder goggles. And as musicians, when you have those wonder goggles, guess what? It drops you into your heart. Your serotonin increases like life, and everything happens much easier. Next up is read a book. I think the average person reads like two books a year, but the average CEO that makes $10 million or more a year reads like 50 books. So we got to increase our reading ability, not for the sake of making money, like the CEO example, but for the sake of expanding yourself, for looking at things a new way. Somebody put 20 years of their life in a book. And if you can read 20 years of someone's life in a sitting of two, three hours, sometimes 15 hours, depending on the book, that's pretty powerful. There's a lot of information. And if you're not a reader, Audible obviously works. I have an Audible account probably has like 300 books in it. And just listen. But listen non-distracted. Listen to where you can truly listen and hear it, as opposed to just having on background noise and you're crossing something off the list because you feel like that's how we're supposed to do it as humans. Listening it with the intent to teach, to help other people with the information that you're getting. the next up. And I've done this multiple times where I'll go off Instagram, Facebook, social media, technology all together for a couple weeks. You got to take a break. You don't. Maybe you don't have the time to take off two weeks now, but you're building up to that. Maybe you're. You still need to work to make money and. And other things. That's fine. I think when you take a break from technology, even. one day a week or for four hours a week and you get outside in nature and you connect with what's real instead of virtual, it shifts you. It's a portal into the unknown. It's a wake-up call. I mean, literally, there's so many critters in this oak forest that I have by the house. I could literally go out there and sit there for days, spend the night there, wake up, have full-on full-on connection. with these animals and get the life stories out of them just by witnessing them, sitting in deep states of theta or doing breath work in the woods. You don't need mushrooms, you don't need any of the stuff cool kids are doing these days. You can literally just bring your multi-dimensional suit up there and slow your mind down enough and things will just start to happen, I promise. So take a break from technology. Tap into what's real versus virtual. Next up, with the wonder goggles, increasing serotonin, finding more creativity and more joy in your life to become this rapturous vessel of ecstasy and love would be following your own dreams. When you start to follow your dream, as opposed to being the cookie cutter that everybody else has imprinted and planted propaganda mechanisms on you so that you just become a cog in the matrix, You really start to wake up and you really start to follow your dream as far as it'll take you. And it's cool. You become the living book. And I think that's why we're here as humans. It's like we all have a seed that was planted in our heart and if we nourish that seed, life is easy. I think we really start to struggle when we're not following our dream or what's important to us. our purpose, the passions that we have when we get so bitter because we've been doing things for other people for so long that we just get locked up. We become sassy, sassy to our own selves, sassy to the world. And that's not serving you, my friend. So follow your dream. Ask yourself this question. When did I give up on my dream? When was it? 10 years ago, 15 years ago, 20 years ago, is there an underlining emotion of bitterness that's in my soul that I need to get rid of? Am I angry? I'm sensing somebody out there listening to this a little angry. That's great. Go out in the woods and just yell, scream, sprint. Sprinting's great. Run as fast as you can for 30 seconds. Do it every day. just once. Get that rage out of you, my friend. That'll turn into. Wow. I'm feeling better. Getting the stuck emotion out, getting the grief out of my body. We carry grief around the solar plexus in the human body. A lot of grief is going up since lockdown three years ago and everything else. So how do we get rid of that? so good. We got to learn something new every day. That's a big one. Always strive to learn something new. Even if it's big or small, this could include reading or learning some new technology that's going to help you with your craft, a new topic, teaching yourself a skill. I've been looking at this AI thing for a while, how it helps people write, how I can literally do graphic design and all these other things. It's pretty wild. But not really looking to immerse myself fully in it, more looking just to be curious. Just get curious with it. What can we get curious about that? Maybe we were hesitant to or resistant before. I think sometimes when we lean into what we feel like is, oh, that's terrible. We can't let this AI thing continue, but I continue to take a step or two into it, just mindfully watching my feet, watching my mind. It's interesting what can come up. So do that, learn something new every day. Last but not least, take a trip. One of the highlights of my life and I continue to talk about this at least twice a week is a van trip that we took for 30 days through Arizona, up through Utah, and we stopped at every single national park. In the van and we stayed, you know, did a little van life thing. And it was literally full on presence for 30 days. Because you had to make the decision, well, where are we gonna stay? It was a decision that had to be made. Where are we gonna go? Where are we gonna eat? And everything wasn't so humdrum tuning into one reality, Groundhog's Day over and over and over again. So there's a reason van life has just exploded over the past five years. People love that. They love going into an adventure unknown. You know, the secret life of Walter Mitty. If you haven't watched that, watch it. Because we all have that person inside of us. We all have the adventurer, the person that's leaning out on the bleeding edges of society, pulling humanity forward. Let's not get locked into the normalcy or the everyday Groundhog's Day. that's a good movie, by the way. Bill Murray's old Groundhog's Day. If you haven't watched that, it's an old one, but a good one. So do that. Go on an adventure. Take a trip somewhere. Try some different activities outside. If you can't take a trip, just shake things up a little bit. See through the eyes of Wonder. Wonder. I don't know why I'm doing that, but. Oh, what a good morning, my friend. This was a. An. A true joy for me to share this with you. I woke up first thing and I'm like, well, let's talk about wonder. Let's help my friend who's listening to this that's kind of been stuck in a trap. Break out of that trap. Let's give them some exercises, some activities that they can do. But also let's explain the health benefits of what truly happens when we drop into our heart. We open that portal. The heart gate is open. And hopefully through listening to this just for a little bit, you picked up at least one or two things that really landed for you and helped you on your journey here on planet Earth. If you did, please share it because that's how we can help the algorithm of podcast and Spotify send it to more and more people that are like minded like us, which is uncommon. And I think that's a big deal in today's crazy world to find our tribe. And if you anything landed for you and you love it, share it because we're expanding this tribe, my friend. We're here to shake things up and change the planet, get more people in their hearts. that's what it's all about. So share it, head on over to Instagram, send me a message of how you've implemented this. Even for a week or two, you've done a few of these things and how it's changed your life. I love personal testimonials because it fuels me to keep going, to keep making these podcasts when I hear your transformational stories of how it impacted you. I believe you and I are so intimately connected more than we'll ever know. and when you change your life, it truly changes my life. So share those testimonials with me about how you are now seeing through the eyes of a child. And maybe you've healed areas of your life that you thought were so locked up and unhealed, or you gave up on areas of your life that now you're back into exploring and it's really changed things.
