A short YouTube monologue by Dr. Joshua John-Ram Schacter warning against steroid injections for joint pain. He argues steroid injections damage joint tissues, increase risk of rotator cuff repair failure and post‑replacement infection, accelerate arthritis progression, and can cause avascular necrosis; he recommends alternatives such as PRP and stem cell treatments and a more holistic orthopedic approach.

Let's talk a little bit about steroid injections. These suck. Joint pain is terrible, people, but steroid injections are worse. The traditional medical system typically requires that you get some sort of conservative management before you can have an intervention like a surgery or a procedure. And they oftentimes require that you have a steroid injection. Let me tell you about steroid injections. They're terrible. They damage your joint, they damage the tissues that we injected them into. And as a holistic orthopedic surgeon, I am completely opposed to doing steroid injections for your joint pain. If you come to Pinnacle, we're going to try and find other ways to do that. There are so many better options for you than steroid injections. We know that steroid injections damage rotator cuff when we inject it into. We know that steroid injections increase the risk that you'll have a failure after you have a repair. If you need a surgical repair of rotator cuff or something in your knee. We know that steroid injections increase your risk of infection after having a joint replacement. We know that steroid injections increase the amount of arthritis that, that you have in your joint. It rapidly progresses your joint arthritis. We know that steroid injections can even damage the blood supply to a joint, causing a problem called avascular necrosis, which leads to very rapidly progressive arthritis. So steroid injections are something that you should definitely think twice about before you allow your provider to do that to you. Now, it's very important to remember that there are alternatives to steroid injections. And so if that's something that you're interested in, please, please talk to your doctor about that, or better yet, come and see a specialist like me who specializes in a holistic approach to your joint or one that provides PRP, stem cell treatments or other alternative options to steroid injections.
