A short YouTube video by Dr. Joshua John-Ram Schacter arguing that orthobiologic treatments (using a patient’s own blood/tissue) avoid many risks of traditional orthopedic surgery — including nerve/vessel injury, stiffness, infection, blood clots, and even a nonzero mortality risk — while offering low infection risk, minimal downtime, and cost-effectiveness.

When we do an orthopedic surgery, we have risk of injury to nerves and blood vessels. We have risks of joint stiffness, we have risks of infection, we have risks of blood clot, we have risks of general medical issues. There is a mortality rate, meaning certain amounts of people can die from any elective surgery that you would do. There's a certain percentage of people that don't make it through that. That's daunting to think that you're going to go have your meniscus fixed and there's a chance that you could die. So with, with the biologics, we have none of those risks. One, it's your tissue. There can't be a rejection of your own tissue. There is a slight risk of infection, but it's extremely low because we're using your own blood and tissues. It doesn't require any downtime or rest of the joint other than maybe a couple of weeks. And there's none of the other massive risks of surgery and the cost incurred by those risks. So orthobiologics is a very cost effective, it's very safe and it's very patient effective treatment.
