Whereas we really kind of gloss over the fact that surgery can have a significant impact and there are often painful and debilitating complications. We know this because addiction, chronic pain, and depression are rampant. We see constant studies on addiction medicine. We have overuse of narcotics, chronic pain after surgery is a problem, and obviously depression and mood instabilities affect everyone from athletes to our older patients.
