Dr. Joshua John-Ram Schacter explains how platelet injections create longer-lasting anti-inflammatory effects than steroids. Platelets stay in tissue for three to five months, continuously releasing healing substances that reduce inflammation and pain while potentially remodeling damaged tissue.

Platelets have a massive anti inflammatory effect. In fact, if we look head to head with steroid injection versus platelet injections, platelet gel injections have a much stronger anti inflammatory effect that lasts a lot longer. Second, we know that if we put those platelets in a tissue, they stay there for about three to five months and they will continue to release those materials. So rather than have a foreign material like a steroid or these lubrication injections that we have, we take your tissue, we inject those cells directly into your joint or your tissue, they stay and continue to release those healing substances that will lessen the inflammation in your joint, they drastically reduce pain, and in a lot of cases, they can actually start to remodel and heal tissues.
